The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!
The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.
Over the next few days, we're taking a bit of a break and entering The Best of the Hundred Tournament for Comics #101 - #200 as we take the time to decide which of the strips really are the best of best.
For full details about the Stick Awards, and any questions about them, please check out the main thread here.
To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.
To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the five listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.
Voting, which only lasts five days during the Best of the Hundred Tournament will close on October 25th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.
The winner of this semi-final will go on to the finals which will be held after the second semi-final is done. The two strips that get the most votes during the semis that DIDN'T win, will also reach the finals. So voting is extra special important this time around, as it will determine who the 'Wild Card' entrants are.
Last week, 200 The Confrontation curbsmited everyone else around her to become the final entrant of this Best of the Hundred tournament.
Ah? But who will the winner of the tournament be? Let's find out.
It's time for us to vote vote vote vote for the best of the Sticks in....

Man...all worthy winners, and I'm especially torn between 110, 122 and 149.
Ultimately, I think you all know what this means...122...may the gods have mercy on all of us.
Plus, whenever I'm on holiday, I now say 'I love small towns' whenever I go somewhere...yep, has to be that one.Why I love V...

I don't really know, but I just find 122 - Adventurers Are Coming! Adventurers Are Coming! really awesome. (From the rest I would probably pick 110 or 120 - that would be a really close toss-up)
I love small towns!

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
I'm voting for 131. A quiet strip, which begins the process of delving into Haley's past, and which sets up the events of Book Five, I feel that that 131 has outsize importance, compared to the others. (Though the bit where Redcloak casts Slay Living on some random Hobgoblin Cleric, in front of the real Supreme Leader, is priceless.)

Man, tough choice. I'm not sure any of these were strips I voted for, which makes this more difficult. But I think I'll go with 110: Revenge Is Best Served Really Cold.

I don't recall voting for any of these, except possibly 122, but looking at the 5 of these, 120 is my choice.

I'm pretty sure #122 was the only one I've voted for in the base round, so here we go.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
Thanks!
It's funny. When I looked at the results for last week, I thought to myself, "That's a real curbstomping going on right there." So naturally I decided I had to work that into my one line recap.
As I was reviewing my post, I suddenly realized that instead of that saying curbstomping, it should instead say curbsmiting. It was one of those little flashes of "why didn't I think of this term before" and I had to work it in.
So I'm glad to see people are enjoying it.Last edited by Porthos; 2013-10-21 at 12:35 AM.

EDIT changing vote
131149. I'm actually kinda disappointed in the strips that made it. They're all good, but none are that "great". Maybe next week...Last edited by littlebum2002; 2013-10-22 at 03:36 PM.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
It's the bad guys leading this round, in my opinion. My top two were 110 and 149. I think 110 wins it, though.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
This is a tough choice. All these strips are top quality.
110 makes laugh every time; always fun to see how the hero's quest is seen from the villain's point of view.
120 is fun for similar reasons; subverting Elan's 'Happy Ending' narrative with hints of the adventures and adversaries to come.
122 is an absolute classic, especially for anybody who's D+D character has paid over the odds for their gear.
131 is a nice moment between Durkon and Haley, and the reveal of her deeper motivations is cool too.
But I'm going to throw my vote to 149. The comedy beats in this strip are just excellent. The prison was full of British officers who had sworn to die, rather than be captured.

I don't think I voted for any of these the first time, and I don't think reconsideration has improved them. Well I'll got with 110, but it might be 5th or 6th compared to the next set.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
I have a question about your voting methodology. Since you're going to pick the top 4 strips regardless of what semi-final they appeared in, why not just have an open semi-final? Have all 10 strips, and everyone can vote for their favorite 2.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (BotH [#0101-#0200]) [Semi #1]
Because I'm NOT picking the top 4 regardless of what semi-final they appeared in.
Winner of semi one + Winner of semi two + next two top vote getters. It's entierly possible for the winner of a semifinal to have less votes than the top three or four in the other semi.Concluded: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition
