Sokolov is also a creep, though AFAICT he's... differently so? It's less that he creeps on women specifically, more that he views everyone around him as an animal or a piece of meat

Well, last time was fun. Now for the next one.

Zodi Plays: Dishonored [21] A Good Tall Boy

    Video Length: 25:26

In this episode, we interrogate Anton Sokolov. And by interrogate I mean we give him some brandy (which I call wine as a joke and not because I'm dumb) as opposed to siccing rats on him, since I don't imagine we can CONTROL the latter, and we want Sokolov to be our friend you know. Through doing so, we learn who the mistress and money source for the opposing conspiracy is; The Mysterious Lady Boyle. We don't know which of the three sisters it is, because they are apparently obsessed with this idea of anonymity, which I think is actually kinda neat. Especially because, as Sokolov tells us, there is a masked ball tonight held by the Boyles. All we need to do is infiltrate, find out which Boyle is our mark, and handle them in the way we are accustomed. All in all, I really like the set up here.

Of course, it's easier said than done. We still need to GET to the party, and after all the shinaningans we've been pulling the Lord Regent is pulling out all the stops. Say hello to our new friend, the Tall Boy. They are guys in heavy armour, on top of what is essentially a giant, spindly mech suit that is itself pretty heavily armoured. Near I can tell the only way to actually deal with them is to either drop assassinate them, or blow up one of the whale oil tanks on their back. Now, I'm PRETTY sure there's a person in there, though I cannot be 100% sure, so we won't be killing the Tall Boy any time soon... as much as I would like to. They're quite destructive to the local population, especially the Weepers. Though as long as it's not my direct fault it's okay.

And really that's it for today. We didn't quite make it to the party yet, in part because of the Tall Boy and in part because we do need to explore a bit to find all the good good loot in this area, but it's worth it. I hope you all enjoyed, I'll see you all next time!

    Indeed.

Since you were apparently warned about Piero creeping through the keyhole already, I assume you've also read about the consequences if you also choose be a creeper? It's always amused me a little that they specifically went out of their way to write that in, instead of just making the bathroom door locked+unbreakable.

Yeah. That's why I was concerned about opening the door to tell her Piero is spying. I was aware of this small aspect of the game and basically nothing else, which I find hilarious by the way. But yeah no, if you do it she kills you dead or something.

Sort of, yeah. It's just an instant-game-over with 'The conspiracy dissolved due to irreconcilable hostilities', treated as a death+reload. Though it's not an instant effect, you go in and she yells at you to get out. If you don't, then it triggers the game-over.

Have we also stumbled over the conversation where Piero is telling her about the 'devices' he designed for the brothel while hitting on her? Could have been in an update I didn't watch.

We did, and that was the moment I decided he was Huey Emmerich. The evidence continues to pile on.

Oh right, the electric zappy chair. For some reason I thought Sokolov built that because he's the Tesla lightning power specialist. But building brothel accessories is probably beneath him, while it's totally a Piero thing so I must have been wrong.

Btw, in case you forgot, in episode 15 you stole an Invitation for Boyle's Party from the art dealer. Use this information as you will.

Yeah, my speakers are... confused sometimes, and the game gets a little intensive so my settings warble a bit. I'm not sure how to deal with it.

Tallboys are very tall and very boys! And weaper's are horrifying.

'Lady Boyle's Last Party' is hands down my favourite mission in the game. So much to discover, so many routes, so many ways to mess up.

Some informations about Tallboys are given on the loading screens, but usually at a time when you have no use for them. Zodi's analysis of them is spot on, no way to take them down non-lethally.

You can see him getting up again, so he should be fine.

It is pretty much the same with the rats.

The portrait of Lady Boyle he talks about is by the way the one you can find in the previous mission.

Which reminds me that I wanted to post about stuff I encountered, but was missed in Zodi's playthrough.

You can actually see Samuel move his boat after you turn of the search lights. Which makes it seem rather pointless.

You can also enter Sokolov's house from the water by taking a ride on the water wheel. Not my favourite since you then have to navigate through the enemies on the ground floor anyway. I usually go in through the roof, by blinking over from the neighbouring house.

On the ground floor there is a workshop, where Sokolov apparently developed the Wall of Light and also his atelier with several stone blocks for sculpting and the finished Painting of Lady Boyle, called "The Obtuse Arguments of Lady Boyle".

Sokolov seems to be very much a natural philosopher in the vein of a Renaissance man. He works on biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering, has an interest in the occult (when you talk to him before the abduction he goes straight from "Ah, how did you get in here!" to "Ooh, I saw that symbol on your hand before, in some remote caves.") and pursues several arts. Presumably both for a change of pace and to get funding and support for his other projects. He also led an expedition to Pandyssia.

You do also get an achievement for climbing the northern tower of Kaldwin Bridge.

The Legend of Sokolov: Man Without a Spine!

Was there any foreshadowing that Sokolov is weak to brandy? It seems very meta that it would suddenly appear in the shop without any explanation... Like, Piero could have said something, at least.

The intended sequence is to talk to Sokolov before going to Piero. There you get a dialogue option that you would rather look for an alternative to torture and get the objective to go buy a bribe from Piero. Who of course knows the vices of his nemesis. (And shares them.)

Youtube brain is very much a thing. I swear, the simple fact of the recording being turned on makes me instantly less perceptive. (And if you want, I bet I could pull up some cognitive psychology studies showing about the same thing.)

It is time for an experiment.

Zodi Plays: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside [1] Testing the Waters

    Video Length: 24:16

So. A friend of mine, M (12milemat on the forum, if he posts) posed to me a query. "Wanna play an edutainment point and click game?". Well, after some deliberation (and, truth be told, being kind of a grumpus) I said yes. So we have this now! On Wednesday, I will be uploading additional, auxiliry Zodi Plays that are like a... B-Side. Typically going to be things that don't get a thread because of length or subject matter or general "side-game-y" feelings. The title card will reflect this, showing teen Zodi in all her beautiful glory. The cool fairy is M.

But yeah. We played Pajama Sam, a game series I have basically no familiarity with beyond watching an LP of this game literally five years ago, in which I remember virtually nothing. This is a three video series, uploaded every wednesday. As a precautionary measure, this series gets a little blue and a little cussy, and I forgot to make a warning about it in video oops. It should be fine though. But yeah, in this first episode we iron out the difficulties o playing an ancient pointy clicky game made for children, I get dragged ruthlessly (and hilariously) across the surface of the sun, and we begin our adventure into learning how not to fear the deadly, deadly night.

Hope you all enjoyed. I know I sure did, after a fashion. Regular scheduled programming will resume on Friday and Monday as typical, so please partake of this wonderful bonus video.

    Ah, this explains seeing that.
I remember briefly having one of these on disk as a kid, but the majority of my childhood point-and-click games consisted of Freddi Fish (which you can see a poster of in the first room), Putt-Putt, and Agent Fox (which I never actually beat, because I always got sidetracked by a vehicle minigame halfway through ).

I always do admire how much stuff they do actually put in all the nonsense. Gotta click everywhere to see it all.

Your endslate is kinda… cut off on the sides, just to letcha know.

(Also, hello, M, if you're reading this. Don't be too hard on Zodi. I can always get behind more cool fairies, though, so, eh, do whatever. )

Yeah, getting used to editing non widescreen games again. Every LP has tech difficulties etc etc.

M realized that and pulled back during the playthrough, don't worry. And it's good-natured ribbing we've been friends since the Pyro update of TF2

Also next Wednesday you're gonna regret defending me.

I mean... I'll admit it's really not so much nostalgia as... "oh right, I had games like that, though I really only remember tiny snippets of them."

As far as difficulties go, losing a few letters is probably one of the better ones to have.

I figured that it was all friendly. You didn't even say "get out of my house".

Everyone has off moments. I know I've had my share of "...oh"s.

Don't be slacking on your tables, now. We need a chart of lethal/non-lethal takedowns for Pajama Sam!

As others've said, the Boyle party mission is a fun one, plenty of different ways to approach it and, if I'm not mistaken, which actual sister is the target is randomly determined, so it changes playthrough to playthrough. I think. Although I must say that my favorite mission is the next one, if I remember the mission sequence correctly.

But the tables here are comfy. They're perfect for slacking off on.

"Okay, but remember we found the lunchbox in the trash can. There's no guarantee we'll find the flashlight somewhere reasonable."
"Ah, yes. I love point and click games."

    Oh, that brings back memories.
I run a Let's Play channel! Check it out!

One of these days you chuckle****s lovely and good people who support me are going to convince me to play Grim Fandango. And then all of the built up love and trust I've gathered from you will fade like grains of sand as I both make a fool of myself and point out all it's many, many, MANY flaws because I sadly just do not enjoy that game at all and find it to be the prime example of why I just have no love for pointy clicky games.

Like King's Quest and it's derivatives are exceptionally worse because they murder you hours in because you didn't Do The Thing but nothing is more frustrating then just kinda rubbing against things for two hours because when you moused over the appropriate pixel the mouse didn't change to an intractable. Among other things.
