Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0521 - #0530)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 521 through 530.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on August 21st, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 520 The Power of Immediate Gratification decided that the easiest way to prove its worthiness was to throw a cat in to the face of one of its competitors and escape in the confusion. Turns out to have been a fairly decent strategy as it was able to take the ticket that enables it to move on in this competition in the chaos that follows.

Dwelling on such hilarity however, is never focus of these little skirmishes between comics. No, moving ever onward is our goal. That goal, of course, is figuring out the best of the best. And the only way to do that is to vote in......

523: Orders That Won't Stick is just too hilarious not to vote for.

I must vote for 524. It has Belkar-on-Stilts, which always makes me happy. (Belkar's dodgy acting, too.)

I really like the 529-531 sequence of strips with Celia and taking their sweet time to find common ground. Of those, two are up for voting now, and really undecided between them. In the end, I'll help 530 on its way to the BoH tournament by voting for it.

EDIT: I was obviously stuck in the last century. Strip numbers now corrected. Sorry for the confusion.

From the context it pretty much has to be 530, because 429-431 don't even feature Celia.

Unfortunately there isn't any context to verify the other one with, so guessing is the only option

I know a lot of people like 524, but I didn't really like the fact that it repeated the "dominate" joke from 521 that I didn't really think was funny the first time.

So, to sound like a total hypocrite, I'll vote for 521. It sounds funnier now that it can be compared to 939. Everything Belkar does eventually goes mainstream!

This is a much stronger set than the last one. Lots of great gags as well as character interactions. The Old School player in me can't help but smile at 522 for the in your face "secret door", for instance (which didn't get a single vote BTW, what's up with that?). It's such a little thing, but many times it's the little things that makes OotS great.

"Perhaps they polymorphed into boxes, Mistress?"

    Classic.

Still, that's not the one I am going to vote for. No, I am voting for 524 because it finally proves once and for all just how evil, sadistic, and thoughtless one of the core members of OotS is. It's very rare we get to see such cold hearted, dare I say banally dismissive malevolence in the comic, but I for one am glad that the spotlight was shown on it.

I mean. really Haley. Everyone can see the string and everything! Such effrontery to the basic concepts of Willing Suspension of Disbelief and your blatant shoddy disregard to how a modern audience demands excellence from their effects department should not, not MUST not, go uncommented upon.

Shame, Haley, SHAME! At least you could have attempted to put on some age spots or a tiny amount of makeup to make it look like Belkar had some wrinkles.

    Harumph.

No, 524 gets my vote for precisely that reason. It lays bare to all just what kind of person Haley is. And I for one am willing to applaud any artist who is willing to withstand the sort of backlash that will follow from showing the true hidden ugliness of his characters.

    And with that....
