Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
If you're humanoid and within a handful of years of me than trust me
In all seriousness, I have the joint problems of having low standards and being just that little bit demi. The first to the point where a friend refuses to set me up on a date until I get some standards.
Does the ability to create fire also include the ability to create ice by reversing the heat-making-ability?
Where does the energy come from? I don't know, Sam asks that question herself, but there is no 'inner energy reserve' deal or need to take energy from the environment, so the energy has to be coming from somewhere (I'll likely explore this if I write a book 2).

Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
Look, I know templating is weird, but I've seen at least one humanoid-fae-construct-outsider in my time at wizard school. I think there were even some in the classes instead of cages!
Now if you'll excuse me the headmaster is threatening to Banish me if I don't go to sleep. And I was so close to scribing that clairvoyance spell into my spellbook so I could... uh, nothing, totally wasn't planning to hang around the fighter college before tomorrow's big battle.

Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
I am now picturing an opposite of a Forbiddance, like an arcane virus that infects your scrying implement to only show the last image scribed. Instead of preventing you from seeing a thing, it forces you to only see the thing. Like a pop up ad.
Which considering context, may potentially be a Freudian slip.
Is an intentional Freudian slip a Freudian slide?

I'm probably going to stop posting until early June next year for... reasons.
I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
Look, when the half-fraud/half-fiend/half-golem/gnome gets uppity you've got to put them somewhere safe.
And funny thing, that spell says nothing about divinations.
Well of course. If you burn the fuel first then the fire can't sustain itself.

Take it from me, it's not as cool as you think it is. (About -0.1 C at most. )
And I really love the idea of talking writing. Knowing other people who are writers and talking with them, I find I like being on the story-telling side of things as well as story-reading.

Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
Yeah, it's one of those things I'd love to play again. It was my first introduction to tabletop back in middle school... but, unfortunately, the friend who's dad volunteered to DM for us decided he didn't want to continue after two sessions. And all future attempts to do stuff with friends throughout the years were... scattered and cat-herding-ly at best. It's a bad system for Play-by-Post, too, given how tactical it is, which is unfortunate, given that that's basically what I can mostly play now.
At least all the 20-odd books I have are still good reading material. I really, really liked the Nentir Vale/Points of Light setting.Last edited by DataNinja; 2019-11-09 at 01:17 PM.

Re: Thufir's Third Random Banter #224
Wow, I actually can't remember how old I was when 4e came out, maybe 15-16? I'd already played BECM and 3.5 by that point, as well as Savage Worlds 1e. Most of my gaming memories are now from uni, it's why Unknown Armies is my favourite system. My first proper campaign was in UA2e, which ended with us rubbing mud in [redacted]'s hair because a) they'd tried to turn Ventral London into it's own dimension, b) it robbed them of Urbanomancy charges, and c) every group member was of the same political leaning and none of us liked him.
I was actually running a sequel to that last year, but it petered out due to conflicting schedules.

Okay, I want people's opinions: do I stick with the magic angle I've got planned, or do I transition more into mad science and have fun with crazy inventions?
