Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
creating undead counts as auto-evil.
Undead themselves can vary somewhat in alignment from evil though.
Mindless undead tend to have an evil alignment (zombies, skeletons) but not always- zombie dragons and skeletal dragons from Draconomicon count as neutral (still detect as evil though).Last edited by hamishspence; 2011-11-30 at 02:47 PM.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
See, mindless undead as evil makes no sense at all - either it's not intelligent enough to make moral decisions, and is thus not evil, or morality isn't a factor in determining whether something is good or evil - you can't have it both ways.
I assert that the decision to make zombies and skeletons evil in 3.5e was a mistake. It is inevitable, of course, that persons of epicurean refinement will in the course of eternity engage in dealings with those of... unsavory character. Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
Yeah - with regard to the Lanterns, I agree that Red should be neutral, Black evil.
@V: Lemme just say in summary that there are some aspects of that which I agree with, and some which I don't, but it doesn't do well for us to discuss it here when there's posters to be posted.Last edited by TheCountAlucard; 2011-11-30 at 03:12 PM.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
That's part of a larger mistake. The original concepts for negative energy (i.e., neutrally-aligned force of the universe that represents death and entropy but has nothing to do with Evil) was the best one, because it kept both concepts (evil and negative energy) separate, and therefore allowed for more variety and a greater depth and richness of fluff, rules and campaign stories.
The biggest mistake was conflating both, doubtlessly influenced by pop culture (just another bit of proof that shows how pop culture ruins everything) and a need to have an easy excuse to create monsters for players to mindlessly kill (do I really need to say how laziness and greed ruin stuff? Because they do).
Complex, three-dimensional characters? WHO NEEDS THAT. WE'RE HERE TO KILL THINGS AND TAKE THEIR STUFF.
And that's how negative energy became evil. Everything else just kept snowballing off that.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
They're powered by Negative Energy, which is EEEEEEVIL! by default in D&D. Since they're not sentient I think of zombies & skeletons like magic items rather than true creatures, so they're evil by virtue of the inherently Evil powers that made them rather than morality.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
Lantern Fan has to but in.
Green rings are meant to be law enforcement, LG intended, LN most often.
Yellow was made to oppose, but they have a strict hierarchy and they follow a plan, LE all the way.
Orange, CE, Agent Orange will do anything to get anything, except give something away. (All he really wants is his family but doesn't know how to find them, plot for the future)
Blue, Religious like, helping everyone they can, LG all day every day.
Indigo, true neutral, they channel other rings, one of the first fights even had "How do you like it?" when they turned an attack back on the attacker. N
Violet, ring of love, could be anything, as horrible things can be done in the name of love, but they're meant to be romantic good people, so NG on a good day.
White, NG, the ring itself cares about life, and takes up sides.
Black, LE, but the ring, not the wearer, the ring animates a target, and follows a SPECIFIC plan, the wearer may as well be a wooden doll.
Red: LN. It's specified, they only kill to avenge, and not "You cut me off in traffic" avenge. The first red ring was forged to help the last member of a species avenge his species being wiped out on a whim.
To argue red as not evil, here I go:
The physical form of rage inhabited a man because the man who murdered his daughter was taunting him., he pulled the killer out of death row and killed him on his own. When The Spectre showed up to judge him the leader of the red rings stood in his place, and got a pardon.

Re: D&D Demotivators Episode V: The Demotivator Strikes Back
I was just looking through some of the older threads, and the Spells and Powers Challenge got a lot of really good motivators.
Anyone an idea for a new challenge? Post fictional characters with a D&D class combination seems a bit lame to me.We are not standing on the shoulders of giants, but on very tall tower of other dwarves.

Hm, using pictures of real life events to describe them as fantasy cliches?
Sounds fun, but I think all the best one would get us kicked from this forum. We are not standing on the shoulders of giants, but on very tall tower of other dwarves.

1) Go Here to get your random trope
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/randomitem.php?p=1
2) Find a fantasy themed image that represents that trope
3) Demotivate that sucker
And no surfing around TVTropes to find something you like better. Whatever you get is what you get!

How about a picture that has a standard fantasy hero in the foreground but some clue in the background that makes it apparent that he is in fact "Newer Than You Think".
