Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Well, why not add it in? Maybe an ability 1/day (or more, if you like) where everyone within 30 feet (or so) is subject to irresistible dance.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Posted my entry, the Bardfly, though I'm somewhat unsure if I was to pay specific attention to the "creepy" part of the theme.
Oh, and it will sound clichι, but it was midnight when I finished this(in my time zone anyway), and any crunch-related or logical flaws will be glad to be pointed out, I'm sure.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
For the bardfly, here's a few things:
-The bite attacks should be at +5 attack bonus, I think (+3 Dex, +2 size). I think you just didn't take Weapon Finesse into account.
-I'd change the name of either the swift action move ability or the highest category of windsong effects - they both shouldn't be called "Jet." Maybe call the first "Burst" or something.
-The save DC against the windsong effects might make more sense as (10 + 1/2 HD + Cha modifier) or something like that. I think it's the standard for creature abilities, though it's fine if yours is different.
-Mindless creatures technically don't get skill points or feats. The feat could definitely be a bonus feat (it should be notated as such); for the skills, though, you got some 'splainin' to do.
-For the skills, if you're going to keep them, why would they be good at Move Silently? The whole creature is based on making music as it moves, so I'd even say they should take a penalty. The Playgrounder Formerly Known as rtg0922

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Yeah, I didn't have any great detailed ideas when I wrote it up, it was just kind of a whim, so I don't really have interesting fluff for it. Riding on the literary reference.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
-The bite should indeed be +5. Hmph.
-As Dracodei explained, that entry is for the effect when the Jet ability is used.
-Well, I figured it more depends on the size and growth of the creature instead of its Charisma score (which I fail to draw a connection). I would keep it if it's optional.
For the next two, I totally forgot what I was thinking about when writing those parts. Will correct them soon enough. Thanks by the way.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Looks like I need to work on my reading comprehension skills. Actually, I didn't make the connection with using the Jet swift-action ability as the trigger for the Jet windsong category - I just thought the creature would be using the Run action or something like that. Oh, well - it's fine as is now that I understand that.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Hmm, maybe it'd be better if I made it "Jet ability used" or something like that. Your initial misunderstanding is a positive feedback too, thanks.
Edit: Oh, and though nothing too obscure, a quarter cookie to the attentive person who notices the simple pattern of the Windsong effects.Last edited by Cespenar; 2008-03-13 at 06:05 PM.

I broke down and added a Silly Variant Rule to connect the swarm to actual raves. Hope you all like it.
Edit: Also added some lore and a few other finishing touches. I want my first attempt at a competition on this site (after three years of forum membership) to at least be a good effort.Last edited by Stormthorn; 2008-03-16 at 01:37 AM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
DarkShard, if you happen to see this, there are a couple of things you need to check in your entry. Your creepy-crawly needs a type (probably Vermin or Magical Beast), it needs to add 10 x Con mod to HP, it's saves need the base saves added in (which can be found here and depend on creature type).
Otherwise, I like the idea a lot. Throw in a random NPC at the beginning of the encounter to showcase the Assimilate ability, and your PCs are sure to freak out a little. Also, reminds me a little of these two strips from Kukuburi - 18 and 19.The Playgrounder Formerly Known as rtg0922

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Caracol, your swarm would be a monster to kill. Diminunitive and Fine swarms cant be hurt by normal weapons and this one absorbes magic, so its lots of thrown acid vials and alchimist fires if you want to get rid of it.

Oh, hey, didn't notice this thread. Any comments/suggestions for the Barbed Fleshworm? Is it so unoriginal that I should replace it with something else?

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Okay, Assimilator Flies fixed. And also, I think the Barbed Fleshworms are fairly unique. It'll be annoying for the person to try and kill it, only to see that it stabs them in the heart in death, then leaves their eggs to finish the job.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Ok, everyone should now have received a message about their critter. If not just let me know and I'll try to go over it before the deadline.
Btw, Icewalker, you have till midnight to finish off Gregor. Otherwise will have to disqualify it for being incomplete. If you don't have anything just throw it together and see what happens.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
I see what you did there...
Stupid Rick-rolling monsters...
Regarding the intercept summon ability - the wording seems weird to me. I understand what it's supposed to mirror, but I feel like it needs some specifics. Do they have to know about the summoning? Does every summoning ever have the chance of summoning one? (I assume that lasts one's a yes.) I like it, it just might need some clarification.Last edited by RTGoodman; 2008-04-03 at 10:52 PM.

Re: GITP Monster Competition Chat Thread
Llorricks sense the energy of the spell as it's being cast, which alerts them to the fact that the spell is being cast.
As for your second question:
Intercept Summon (Su): Llorricks are attracted to the energy of summoning and calling spells. As a result, any time a summoning or calling spell is cast, there is a 5% chance per spell level that a llorrick appears instead of whatever is being summoned or called.
