Sorry guys, but there is absolutely no way I can get a comic in this week. Not only do I have killer finals, but now I'm also sick.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Thanks, guys. And no, my college is known for having killer finals. Especially my chemistry class (ask Blackfox. She didn't take it, but she's heard about it, especially from me). The professor deliberately made the exam so it would be impossible to complete. I'm not exaggerating. He put material on there that he had never taught, that I had never known existed--and I took AP chem last year, aced both prelims, and studied so much I ran out of problems to do! And I still couldn't complete the test. He deliberately made the exam to be impossible to complete.
Hopefully my math final will be better...Last edited by CoffeeIncluded; 2011-12-09 at 12:43 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I heard of a professor who put the problems he was working on as the last question on every exam. Who knows? Maybe some young bright student would solve it for him.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I knew one professor who hated how his students didn't follow directions. So he put on the final of 100 questions instructions at the top that said do probles 96-100 and turn in the test.
I think only something like 3 students passed their final in that class.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
There was a question in a Maths exam I've had a few months ago that simply drove me nuts. Almost nobody in the class got it, and I managed to get myself right on the passing grade for it thanks to the other number that I managed to complete quite well enough..
Anyhow, can't wait for more. This comic is getting even greater. Loving the look of the new locale! :DLast edited by BeethroBudkin07; 2011-12-09 at 10:38 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Ha, thanks guys. My last final is tomorrow night and I'm headed back early Friday, so I should be able to update Friday night!
EDIT: Huh. You know, I really try to make the geography for Aequar ecologically correct, which is why I chose Runite to be what it is where it is and so forth. While going over my ecology textbook I noticed something that made me think, "Oh crap, don't tell me I botched its location that badly," referring to both the city-state's climate and its trade, and some timeline stuff in the sequel. Except that on closer inspection all I have to do is move Runite down a couple degrees in latitude. I love realizing I know more than I thought I did.
The biggest thing I need to make sure is possible is that pretty much all humid subtropical locations on Earth are on the southeast side of the continent, and while Runite isn't as humid and swampy as where the Drow and a few Kagonese live, it's still humid and swamps, and it's on the southwest part of the continent. But then again, there's no South America or Africa to change wind pressure, just the Southern Islands. So really, there's there's going to be significant differences between the two worlds. I just hope I've done enough to make it believable.
Also, it's kinda funny that a continent called Nordica extends down to practically the Tropic of Cancer.Last edited by CoffeeIncluded; 2011-12-14 at 03:51 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Maybe. But I figured out an even better way to fix this discrepancy. At least, I think so. See, the deep south, southeastern, and northeastern parts of the United States, especially the deep south and southeast, are a bit more moist than their latitude would make you expect them to be. This is because high pressure over the Atlantic Ocean increases the flow of moist air to the southeastern United States, especially in summer. And this semipermanent high pressure cell comes from the temperature difference between the continents and the oceans.
So all I had to do was shift the continent of Alorca (which few people on Nordica know about because to get there you have to sail into the westerlies, which means that the wind's blowing against you, so it's just not worth it and nobody's sailed that far west that they end up going east again (Nordica's in the Western Hemisphere)) up a bit, and bang! Now I've got ecological justification because of that semipermanent high pressure cell!
And the best part? I've got an ecology final tonight, so technically I've been studying this whole time.Last edited by CoffeeIncluded; 2011-12-15 at 12:58 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Unrelated? Ecology's really important for good worldbuilding. You can't just put the squiggly river through the pointy mountains, you need to think about regional and local climate patterns, the latitude and rain shadows and which way the wind's blowing.
I'm sorry. I hope next week's better for both of us.My webcomic!

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
You wouldn't happen to do freelance geography design, would you? I wouldn't have the money to hire you right at the moment, or probably for quite a while, really, but knowing if (and how much, if so) I should start saving up for it would be nice, so...
