Okay guys, someone ordered melee weapons? Some of the applied physics division were thinking about a combat drill design, but it was simply too impractical. Maybe if we had a live alien to study, something already with drill-like appendages, something aquatic... but heh, aquatic aliens? Like that's ever gonna happen.
And I talk about science divisions here, but they're just different cliques. Officially, we're all just Scientists. I don't think X-Com will ever segregate their science personnel into specialisations.

Also, I've been considering buying X-com off of steam, but was wondering something.

I've only heard good things about enemy unknown, but generally have head that TFTD and Apocolypse were not up to it's standerds. In your assorted opinions, would you agree with that?

The other two titles aren't as good as Enemy Unknown, but still worthwhile in my book. Terror From the Deep catches flak for being too similar to X-Com, Apocalypse for being too DIFFERENT. I guess fans can't make up their minds.

The only person I, or you, for that matter, should be worried about pleasing is Commander Chiasaur. Pleasing Chiasaur makes HWP Lopez happy, and a happy Lopez is a Lopez that won't crush your skull under his treads.
