Civilization III: Mission to Mars (The WW Game!)
The dawn of man:
You see here the ape men eating the leaves and... You know what, this is boring, let's skip ahead.
Enlightenment:
They thunk, so they were. Man became intelligent. But like the tribes of old, they insisted on fighting their petty wars. They cared little for what was outside of their little earth, their little meek existence. Then, the martians came...
Space Age:
The martians came, ready to invade, ready to conquer. It was here that man finally decided to stick together and fight a common enemy, once and for all. Somehow, history has lost records of how exactly humanity won. Should've hired better librarians. Despite the overwhelming win against the invading forces, humanity decided to forgo the unity that brought them together, and instead fractured even more. They were ready for another space race, one that would decide the fate of all humanity. It was here that the space-Nazis rose. Secretive, they've infiltraded the governmental ranks of several civilizations. No one knows who they are, but they are out there...
Welcome to Civ III
Roles
SpoilerAllies
SpoilerCivilizations:
Just your run-of-the-mill nations. Every day they can vote for who should be invaded that day, or invest points into economy, technology, or culture.
League of Nations:
These guys really really trust each other for some strange reason. Luckily, they're all good guys. These civs also start off the game knowing each other, because that's nice.
North Korea:
They think they know everything. Every night they can look at a civilization and see if there's anything special about them. Unfortunately, they tend to misinterpret things... The fact that they ended up on the Allies is probably a mistake on their part.
Great Britain:
James Bond comes in handy, and every night GB can look into a civilization to see its role in the world.
Axis
SpoilerAxis member:
These civs are practically in the Evil League of Evil. They will do anything to ensure the total takeover of the world. At night they will convene in secret and decide who to nuke into oblivion. Luckily, technology has progressed to the point that the next day nearby civilizations will clear the fallout and move in.
Police State:
Like Great Britain, but eeeevil. Can look into a civilization every night to determine its role in the world.
Super secret neutral civs
SpoilerShhhh.
Rules
SpoilerLike a normal game in that every day people vote, and every night the wolves get kills. But different in one important detail: influence. Each civ has a set number of influence points they receive each day, as determined by their land and investments.
At the beginning of the game, all the civs start with 2 influence points, because all the civs start with 2 tiles of land. Each day they can split their points however they want between voting on who to invade, or investments in economy, culture, or technology.
Voting: At least 25% of the influence points in the game are needed to sustain an invasion. It is in the allies' best interest to vote for an invasion, as they don't get a chance to invade at night. When a civ is invaded, its land is split among the late civ's neighbors, giving them more land-based influence points.
Economy: Investing in economy will give a player more influence in the manner of bribes and other forms of coercion. When 3 influence points have been invested across any number of days, the civ gets an extra influence point every day, in addition to what is determined by land. An additional 6 points invested bumps this up to 2 extra influence points. 12 more invested gives 3 extra, and 24 more gives 4 extra. Economy is for civs who want to grow their influence safely.
Culture: With enough culture, the populations of other civs start to get attracted, and stage a rebellion, choosing your civ as its new leader. In essence, land is absorbed from neighboring civs into the investor's civ. Once 4 points are invested into culture, a tile is stolen from a neighboring civilization. Invest 8 more points, and 2 more tiles are stolen. 16 more for 3 more, and 32 more for 4 more. Culture is for civs who want to limit the influence of other civs without all out war.
Technology: This is the whole basis for the game: getting to Mars. Mars is a whole 'nother planet, with plenty of land to spare. To get to mars, a civ can take one of two paths. They can first hop to the moon by investing 4 points into technology, after which another 4 points gets them to mars, or they can go directly to mars after 6 points. When a civ lands on Mars or the Moon, they get 2 tiles of land (giving them 2 more influence). Every 3 days, the colony(s) expand by 1 tile. Investing 6 more points will speed this expansion to once every 2 days, and another 12 points will speed this to once every day. Get to space fast though, because the land will get gobbled up quickly!
Victory conditions:
There are the normal conditions, such as allies ridding the worlds of the axis, the axis reducing ally influence to less than or equal to their own, and neutrals surviving. There will also be some extra victories: Domination (civ with the most land), Economic (civ who invested most in economy), Cultural (civ who invested most in culture), and Technological (civ who invested most in technology).
Autolynches:
If someone misses 4 rounds, or 3 in a row, they are thought to have accidentally rid the world of themselves, and points will be distributed to neighboring civs (unless there is a waitlist to replace autolynched civs). This does not apply to players who have notified the narrator that they will be missing a few days.
Player List
SpoilerThere can be up to 24 players. If more than 24 players want to play, the remainder will be placed on the waitlist.

The game will start the during the week of April 1st, after 24 players have been gathered or April 5th rolls around. Feel free to choose a civilization name for yourself (can be as silly or serious as you want). If you want a specific spot for your land, state the number of the civ you want, and it shall be yours. I'm in! This sounds pretty interesting.
Since if I don't claim it, someone else will: My Civ is Equestria, led by the wise and beautiful Princess Celestia. Area 3.

Re: Civilization III: Mission to Mars (The WW Game!)
For reasons of my own, I shall start my rise to power in Area 51. I mean... six.
Now all I need to do is work out how best to deal with those crazy ponies to the East and liberate them from the oppressive rule of the tyrant Celestia.
Further details will come when I can think of them.Last edited by Elemental; 2013-03-20 at 08:04 AM.

So do the land tiles have bonuses or anything?SpoilerWhat kind of paranoid mind sees that as something else. ~ The Narrator, during Stranded in Space.

I've thought about adding bonuses to different types of tiles, but it would be tricky to balance it, so I didn't.

Re: Civilization III: Mission to Mars (The WW Game!)
Invasion would happen on all worlds, yes. Unless there is no one else except the invaded on one of the worlds (e.g. First and only person on mars is to be invaded), then only their earthly possessions are invaded, and they get a second chance at life on only mars or only moon. But, if there are other people on mars or the moon with you, those tracts of land are also invaded.

Re: Civilization III: Mission to Mars (The WW Game!)
The following is an excerpt from a press conference given by Chancellor Brimstone:
"...And for further clarification; Our land is known as Hoofland, a pony society where friendship is no more magical than any other emotion and the Sun has been proven to move of its own accord, despite the lies of the False-Princess Celestia and her brainwashed "students".
As for the designation of our glorious constitutional feudalism as Area 51, I'd like to remind members of the media to move along and stop asking questions about things that don't concern them. There is of course a compulsory free buffet available for all attendants of today's press conference. Government employees are to be reminded not to consume any of the refreshments on offer as they are for the guests. Failure to comply will make the CMA Mares who provided the buffet very upset as they worked quite hard on it."

Out of the southern expanse of the Meridian Continent, a Civilization arises in glorious splendor:
Nation claims territory 5. Headed by the beloved leader, Leader, Nation boasts of a booming economy, one that generates millions in Currency (the state currency) on the hour in its production and exportation of Product. The capital, Capital, is a thriving center of culture, while its neighbor, City has a population approaching a billion, a majority of whom follow the national pastime, Sport.Hoc Dictum Videtur Esse Melius In Latine.

Re: Civilization III: Mission to Mars (The WW Game!)
Year 0 - Intrigue Phase (Night)
From Biffory Bufus' A Brief History of the World, p. 2478:
"The Martian Invasion was a period of great turmoil for all the civilizations on this Earth. Many died in the initial attacks, in which the Martians rained down cows upon our roofs, while others died later, in the UN's resulting witch hunt for these martians. Yet, in time, the Martian Menace was repelled, and the citizens of Earth once more dissolved into separate civilizations (Many had found the cooperation quite boring).
"The results of the invasion vary across the land. In what was once Egypt, for example, the combination of alien experimentation and nuclear radiation led to the emergence of super-horses, with active intelligence. These mutants prefer to be called 'Ponies,' but that is a discussion for another time (and during that time, we may also discuss the validity of rumors concerning wings and horns).
"Portugal is another interesting civilization, as it remains the only post-invasion civilization to survive the Martians, or at least the only to keep its name and culture. Curiously, Portugal decided to move its entire government to California. Honestly, I don't blame them, California is quite nice this time of year. Leaving a gap in Europe however (and its old colony of Brazil) left a vacuum. This vacuum was then filled in by refugees from the invasion. Not content with simply milling about, these refugees came together and started Pirating.
"As time went on after the invasion, more civilizations moved, dissolved, or became new civilizations. Area 51 moved to Canada, Scandinavians became long-lived (preferring to go by 'Time-Lords'), and half a continent decided the best thing to do was get drunk immediately.
"Post-invasion, many tried to restart their economies, or reassert their culture upon the world. Some tried to make use of all the Martian technology now littering the planet and advance themselves. They all had mixed success. One of these Civilizations was the now-gone Szilardians. They attempted to blast off to terraform Mars. Unfortunately, their nuclear-powered rocket was faulty (possibly sabotage by the emerging Axis that seeks to subjugate the world), and sunk the entirety of the Western Sahara deep underwater.
"A sad day indeed. "
Szilard sunk to the bottom of the Ocean. He was the Narrator (Neutral).
