That has happened to me an inordinate amount of times. I disliked the Avatar: The Last Airbender series at first glance because of that. Then I started watching it, and it was not only an entirely different take on the idea, but also completely awesome.

The only series I've ever watched twice.
And am considering a third go around some day...

The other students may start have trouble, nothing major, just wind instruments jamming for a second, piano keys sticking, and other such stuff. Why, because they have followed the nervous looking kid (please, somebody ask him his name so I can stop calling him that) and they want to make him look good by comparison. This does nothing to improve his nerves.

They are are beings created by the combination of his neurosis and repressed magical ability, essentialy his worst nightmares, only They want to help him so that They will continue existing. So far said help has involved burning down his house (while his parents were inside) and forcing him to go to PACK.

Hm, is there a NEXUS Certified Thieves Guild yet? Not like evil people, I just imagine people being hired to break into a place to steal something for someone else for money. Only they have licenses. You can get the client arrested, but the thieves are just doing their jobs!

Hmmm. I wonder where the Version of Hell Raz draws power from would stand in the devil/ demon thing. Thematically it's more devilish - subtle manipulation and such. Might end up relevant now he's belching brimstone and blazing with fire when he casts

Decker and Kal's hell is loosely based on the Dante 9 circles thing, with Wrath being replaced by War and Heresy by... I forget, but Heresy doesn't really make much sense in a world with a zillion gods. They are in continual war with the demons of the Abyss, which includes Dalachrech and the fallen angel Nephrim, played by Earl. Hell is ruled by the Iron Queen (Persephone) and the Abyss by the Storm Demoness Lilith.

There are many different hells, so you don't have to have anything to do with ours. But if you want to have Raz getting his power from the circle of Pride (also not in Dante, but it should be) or Greed (for power) or whatever, feel free.

I'm totally going to have to create some Devil worshipping cult.

Or not. The fact that the Demons have organized religion whereas the Devils are the free agents of corruption and murder (and lollipops) is deliciously ironic.

I think the devils are perhaps a bit more orderly and not trying to raise up their members to godhood willy-nilly. I mean, sure, someone might try and overthrow the Iron Queen and take her place, but they wouldn't do it without carefully plotting and lining up support ahead of time.

Persy played innocent, lured Hades into 'kidnapping' her and arranged for the whole 'oops, I ate some seeds, now I have to stay! Boohoo!' farce in order to get out from under her mother's thumb. She kept Hades around long enough for her to learn the workings of Hell. When she was sure she could hold onto power without him, he had a mysterious accident.

There's no Thieves' guild per se, but both SAINT and NO are somewhat similar. NO probably more so, since SAINT focuses on assassinations. You come to either of them, say that you want something retrieved and they'll do that... eventually.
Also, I wonder if I ought to make a faction profile for the Inside goblins now that they're getting involved in things.
As far as originality is concerned, I'd be more worried about the originality of Wenomir and the whole Demonhunter sthick if I didn't know noone here but me has read the Witcher saga.

There used to be an organised crime ring in Inside, but that tried to become legitimate rulers and kinda got completely and utterly destroyed by the Empire shortly after the first civil war in Inside, the one in which the Empire became the Empire, although I don't think they originally called themselves that.

I think one of the problems was that when I read the OP, it didn't actually tell me what the purpose of the guild was. I can't even tell if it 's a theives guild or vigilante group.
