Interrogations had been going well, even without Knight.

Seems the Snakemen had been pulling something. They were building a gigantic underground base, and setting up for massive Chryssalid deployment.

On the upside, progress was being made with the robotics department.


Cubey was confident we'd have these things in production by December. Since I planned to finish off the red menace by September, this wasn't going to help with this war, but these things would be nice to have on the battlefield for any future scuffles.

Or conquest of non-funding nations.

Well, I guess taking down that Snakeman base would probably impress the funding nations. Also it would probably save lives, which is somewhere in the X-COM mission statement. I mean, it's not the priority or anything, but since CUbey was using the base to test the blaster launcher...


Lopez entered the base first.

Psionics allowed further scouting without too much risk. Seems they had a whole zoo of genetic experiments here, with 'Lids only the first project.

As Lopez left a trail of bodies leading into the heart of the base, we spotted a hole in the wall. Seems some of the base staff had been planning to run.

Obviously it hadn't been working.

As I headed down, I noticed the escapee. A chryssalid, trying to break for the surface. Fortunately, some stun bomb accidents had left it out cold.

A live grenade kept it from waking up. And got rid of the grenade, which I'd been planning to use from mission one.

Meanwhile, Trazoi, Numerous, and Lopez were heading for the control center.
We might be able to recover some useful plans from the base controls.

Unfortunately, the aliens had rigged it to blow. We barely got anything before the whole control center exploded.

Sadly for the aliens, they hadn't remembered their suicide pills. Which meant that we could grab the data from them much easier from "Friendly requests" than bothering with the computers.

Apparently, the funding nations assumed we meant to blow up the base, rather than use it as a staging post to launch attacks on Belgium.

Which wasn't our goal. Really.


Even better, the tiny snippets of data from the base computer proved enough to get full plans on the invasion from our ethereal houseguests. We'd want to ensure we had proper training and gear, of course, and Cubey would have to be allowed to finish the Blaster Bomb research, but Fort Fri was nearly done with the Avenger, and that meant one thing.

X-COM: Cydonia would be a really nice little base.

Lucky aliens! Knight was buzy... cleaning his vest, and getting the rookies into shape. And by shape, I mean so abused that the alien plasma shots are inviting.

Is there any time limit on how much time a crashed UFO will be available as a mission? Because I just shot down two large ones in a row(yay plasma cannons!), and as the skyranger was arriving, it spoted another large one landed nearby, and I don't know in wich ones of them to land now.

Thier there for a day or two as far as I noticed. But you can intercept the SkyRanger when it's trying to return to base (By clicking the golden diamond) and redirect it back to one of the other landings. Though your troops will probably hate you for it. (If only they could express thier feelings.)

I tried that on the other month, but it doesn't seem to worck, sky ranger claims it needs to go to refuel after each mission, and doesn't acept any change of course. Despite having 87% fuel left

We really wanted to, but there was a problem:

The main body is constructed from a combination of 6 Flying Suits (including yours, BFC's and chiasaur's) and our trusty old Skyranger. Thus causing irreperable damage to the fleshy human bits inside. Oh yeah, these things and a random bullet train, which we'd have to assume would always be around for convenient transformation.

Finally, while the Goldion Hammer itself is rather easy to design - just shower the science department with enough money, its use would cause further damage to the main body, so we'd have to temporarily transform Lopez into a power fist for the main body to grab the hammer with.

I'm sure we can all see the problem now. We can't have Lopez playing second fiddle to anyone!

Do you volunteer to have your power suit transform into the grabbing hand instead? Don't worry, I'm sure the transformation won't mangle your flesh too badly.
