Demons WW: Game of Trickery
Demon's WW: Game of Trickery
Narrators: RuneboundShade and Penguinator
Before proper civilization there was the dark age, in which demons and dragons roamed freely. In this time of madness, a group formed, known as the holy alliance, which, using weapons enchanted to be able to permanently destroy the fiends that roamed the earth, slowly cleared it...
One such member of the holy alliance erred while fighting a demon, and had his enchanted hammer knocked away from him. In his desperation he pulled a sword from the floor and slit the beasts neck... He had, however, failed to properly kill it. Even so, he hid the truth in shame, not willing to admit to the order that he had failed.... These events, of course, have been long forgotten, no one would believe you nowadays if you mentioned a demon...
It is 2000 A.D., and you just received the oddest of parchments in the mail, the parchment reads:
'Come to my lair, to play in a game,
A game that is sure to bring fortune and fame.
This game is intertwined with fate,
For those that lose end up on death's gate.
Winning gold or losing life,
This game is sure to end your strife.
If you wish for silver and gold,
Come to my lair, the location is told.'
You find this disturbing and originally take it for a joke, but considering the debts you'd recently got yourself into it sounded so very tempting... And you just had this urge, this urge to go... It wasn't something you could explain, it was just something that you felt...
So in the end, you left for the place on the map. Upon arriving, you found out that the place was a cave, which eerily glowed from the inside. When you reach the end you found what appeared to be a mound of gold, which you rapidly moved over to touch, but your hand rebounded off the air as if there was a barrier in it, and a voice spoke out of the walls:
"Hohohoho, so you came after all... you all came..."
You realize that people are slowly filling in behind you, their faces look about as confused as yours. "So many people all come to relieve their worries, so many people, completely bewildered by what is unfolding around them...."
The voice paused, as if taking a moment to reposition itself; "Let me explain the situation. I am a demon, right now at this point I am actually dead. This is a fact... And to relive myself it would take the better part of 13 souls. There is sixteen of you, which means all but one of the people I gave the letters to are here... Oh well, that means that there will only be three winners out of the lot of you. Now, let me take the time to explain the little game I addressed in the message..."
You're barely listening at this point, though you still get the basic concept of the game. You want to leave, to run away from this voice that you had all the right to believe was a demon, but your eyes kept on being drawn back to the mound of gold in the centre of the room... You focused on that so much that when you started listening to what the odd voice was saying again it was winding down in the conversation.
"... So thanks to being able to be 'relived', there is no point that you've actually lost the game until it's over." It finished smugly.
A youth petitioned a very interesting question from the back of the crowd, but for some reason it never occurred to you to ask it.
"Urrr... can we just, like, leave whenever we want to?"
The voice took some time answering and when it did it was filled with laughter, "Hohohohoh, ohohoho... Such a very daring question, but your eyes are locked onto the gold like everyone else’s... And even if it wasn't, you still wouldn't be able to leave. See, there's a magical barrier I set up in the entrance into the cave, so you're actually stuck here until the game is over, you can't actually not enter the game... Your decision was set in stone... The moment you stepped into this cave..."
He finished his sentence with racking laughter, and once his laughter stopped, not a sound was to be heard in the entire cave…

Re: Demons WW: Game of Trickery
"Stuck in a cold hard cave with gold,
Here each man must be so bold,
Daring risks each man must make,
The other contestants life to take,
How much would you stake on this?
How much for eternal bliss?
Is the price just high enough?
Or is it, perhaps, far too tough.
One factor that escapes them all,
The presence amongst those standing tall,
A shadow, of malicious intent,
To watch and wait it has been sent,
The Shadow of Doubt is looming near,
All would be best to learn it's fear,
It watches and waits, amused by the game,
But the level of it's play, it's just not the same....

Re: Demons WW: Game of Trickery
Opening Narration:
The sixteen players began, some greeting others, some thoughtfully deciding on plans for winning. What every player did was look down at the ring which had appeared on their finger. What was the demon playing at, giving them pretty presents? Was this some sort of incentive to keep playing? Not that they could get out of it, but it was a thought. Were there more rings in store for them? Who should they make alliances with? What would they do with the money?
As the players sat staring at each other and at the gold, the demon cackled to himself. “Let them pass their silly paper messages… it’s only a matter of time before they are all mine.”
Elsewhere, a man trudged ever closer to the demon’s lair. “I am coming for you, demon. This time… things will not end in your favor.”
