Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
As if that's not an argument in favor of a demon doing just that.
Personally, I would do it, and tell Viola that if she dodges Kurama's brains get splattered all over the floor. The only way she might be able to save him is by taking the blow.
But we have long established that I'm an evil, sadistic bastard. I figure most of the playground is terrified by the thought of getting into my head.

But couldn't she just use a wave of vibrations to counteract the force to stop the swing? Then during the delay she could rush to free Kurama..
Anyway, can't wait to read the next part Silver.Last edited by Saint Nil; 2010-09-20 at 09:01 PM.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Paladin Academy: Part 38
-Cast-
Viola
Mangosta
Kurama
SpoilerDeep holes and cracks lined the floor, walls, and pillars. Viola was panting slightly as she stared at Mangosta. So far, she had managed to dodge blow after blow from him while giving him several slashes in return. The slashes would always heal of course, but they still give her some satisfaction on making them. Something like that sure helped her feel better about the situation.
Mangosta looked along his arm and watched the latest cut heal.
"Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. Why can't you paladins just hold still for me to crush you? It would be a lot easier on us both."
Viola inhaled a deep breath before replying.
"Because it would be easier on you as well. And after what you did to me, I'm going to make sure everything is ridiculously hard to achieve."
Mangosta just stared at her for a moment.
"...Fine. You win fair and square. I can't touch you like this."
He then turns a walks off towards Kurama.
"However, who still needs to play fair now? I still owe your boyfriend a quick death."
Panic suddenly gripped Viola. Without thinking, she charged after Mangosta. Just as Mangosta almost reached Kurama, she raised her sword ready to stab Mangosta in the leg. However, Mangosta suddenly turned around and managed to grab her in his massive sized hand. He spun around and slammed her back into one of the pillars hard. Lights popped in from of her eyes as she was dazed from the impact. She felt her arms pinned in Mangosta's iron grip, unable to move them at all.
"Hook, line, and sinker. You paladins are so predictable."
Back at the wall, Kurama watched horrified. He had to do something to save her. But as he moved, the wound at his side suddenly surged with pain. Wincing, Kurama collapsed back down. He didn't have the energy to save her. But... maybe he did. He reached down to the hidden compartment and opened it up. Pulling out the vial, he looked at the tiny trickle of blue liquid inside. It wasn't enough to heal his wound, he knew that. Instead, he drained the entire vial with one gulp. He gasped out as felt the energy return to him.
Mangosta was still watching Viola recover from her daze. He took one of his long claws and gently rubbed it across her cheek and under her chin, forcing her to look up at him.
"Now, why don't you just surrender right now. I don't want to damage you further with the prospect of still becoming my pet. If you want, I'll spare your boyfriend too so you can still be together. How about that?"
Viola jerked her head away from his claws.
"You can forget it! I'll never surrender to you! I won't let you kill everyone in my realm just for our survival!"
Mangosta chuckled.
"Alright then."
He swung her down onto the ground. Her sword slid a ways away from her, preventing her from using her crystal's power. She looked up in fear as Mangosta prepared his final blow to end her life.
"No!"
Kurama slammed his hands on the ground and concentrated as hard as he could. Cold. Absolute cold. That was the only thing he was focusing on. A mist began to form around Mangosta who looked around at Kurama's shout.
"This is the end, Demon! I'm going to use every ounce of strength I have to freeze you solid!"
Viola suddenly felt an extreme cold emanating from around Mangosta. The Demon King looked at his hands in surprise as ice quickly formed over them. Kurama felt his energy rapidly draining, but he didn't stop. He knew he must succeed. Mangosta twisted slowly, inhibited by the ice that was forming. The Demon King reached out his claw at Kurama, ready to kill him there. The wings were frozen over. The legs quickly solidified. The arm slowed to almost a stop. Finally, a great cold mist completely covered Mangosta, blocking him from view for a moment. Kurama stopped focusing on the cold and the mist quickly cleared. Mangosta's large demonic form was now completely covered in ice. His claws were several feet from his face.
Kurama felt a great relief run through him and slumped to the ground, closing his eyes. A few seconds later, he felt soft, gentle hands scoop him up. He opened his eyes to see Viola looking over him. He smiled weakly.
"Well... I think I did it..."
Viola looked up at the frozen Demon King before looking back at Kurama and nodding slowly.
"Yes you did. How did you do that?"
Kurama sighed as his eyes slowly closed.
"I don't really know... But right now I want to sleep..."
Viola was suddenly scared.
"You can't fall asleep! Not here! We have to get out of here!"
Kurama shook his head with all the energy he could muster.
"I can't... My side is all... banged up... and it took... the last of the potion... to freeze the Demon King..."
He reached up and grabbed her forearm.
"Now's your chance... to get away... Viola..."
Viola's quick breathing was heard from overhead. He felt himself beginning to slink down through the floor. Then a sudden shake from her brought him back for a second.
"Wait... You said you used the last of your potion to have the energy for freezing him?"
She indicated at Mangosta. Kurama slowly nodded.
"You mean the same potion as this?"
She reached into her own hidden compartment and pulled out a nearly full vial of blue liquid.
Kurama just stared at it.
"Yes... Yes that will do it..."
"How?! What do I do?"
"Just... Just pour it over the wound."
He gripped her forearm tighter, anticipating the stinging that was to come.
"Okay."
She poured a little bit of the potion down his throat before pouring the contents onto the wound at his side. She felt his grip tighten as the liquid quickly pooled up into blue foam. Kurama barred his teeth with pain as the foam sizzled and hissed. Then after a minute, it cleared to reveal a patch of perfectly healed skin.
Kurama gasped for a moment before examining his side.
"Thank you... Now could I have the rest of that potion to repair the armor."
Viola handed it over and Kurama began to pour the liquid around the edges, causing the metal to reform over itself.
Viola slowly got up and looked over at the Demon King.
"So, what happens to him now?"
Kurama doesn't look up as he finishes repairing the armor.
"Well, I guess now he melts. I hope they break off a limb or two by accident when the other Demons find him."
Viola looks back over at Kurama.
"He's fragile?"
Kurama looked up at her and nodded.
"Yeah. I froze his arm earlier, but he shattered it and grew it back."
She looked back at the frozen Demon King.
"Lets see him recover from this."
She pulled out her sword.
Kurama looked at her quizzical.
"Viola... what are you-"
"Shattering Shockwave!"
She slashed through the air and the familiar burst of sound erupted from her sword. In an instant, the Demon King shattered into millions of pieces all across the floor. The floating crown flew through the air, before landing on the ground, still fancing with fire.
Viola gasped from the feat as she sheathed her sword. Kurama just stared at her incredulously.
"What did you do?!"
She looked back at Kurama.
"That was for imprisoning me, trying to make me his pet, and man handling a lady."
Kurama silently made a mental note to not piss Viola off.
"Now come on, are you done yet?"
Kurama quickly got to his feet.
"Yeah, I'm done. But I think I used the last of the potion."
He tipped the empty vial upside down.
"That's alright. We're getting out of here."
Kurama looked up at her.
"But what about the magic device? Shouldn't we still go after that?"
"No. Even with the Demon King gone, it should be too well protected. Our best bet is to get Grim to tell us where the beacon is."
"You think he will tell us?"
Viola gripped the hilt of her sword tightly. She spoke out with quiet venom in her voice.
"I will make him tell us where it is, if need be."Last edited by Silverraptor; 2012-10-26 at 01:22 AM.

Since no-one else seems to be telling you, I will. The Club is a chocolate biscuit from the UK. The advert used to go "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, join our club!" An example of which can be found here:
