Post Who is Kira?!? (Mafia RPG: Round 1)

(Warning: This game is a Structured Game, with moderate to heavy elements of roleplay)

    MAFIA RPG:

    Round 1: Who is Kira?

    Introduction:
It was a dark and stormy night; the wind, rain and lightning drenched the crime ridden city of Archridge, forcing all those who wished to stay dry to take shelter. Most were asleep in their houses by now, but there were still a few people wandering about the streets, most of them probably street thugs, drug dealers, gang members, or other criminals.

Suddenly, unbeknownst to mortals, a twirling vortex opens up in the midst of the storm, and a tall skeletal figure hooded in black emerges from its maw. Upon one of his skeletal fingers, a black ring with a silver skull and blood-red rubies set in the eye sockets. It was a symbol of the figure's position, and a testament to his power. It was a god of death, a Shinigami, a REAPER OF SOULS! And it was looking for a... good time.

Durzan, as this Shinigami was called, was thrilled. Apparently, the mortal world was filled with things which no god of death could take pleasure in while still on their home Plane. In fact, most of them couldn't even begin to imagine many of the things the puny mortals were capable of. There is so much to do, and so much to see...HE WAS GOING TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN!

...And Archridge, was the perfect place for a god of death to have fun. For years, the city had been a central hub in the world for all kinds of nefarious activity. The Mafia and the Triad, have waged a bitter war for domination of the city since time immemorial, and many kinds of scum and lurked under the shadows. Secret cults were rumored to kidnap and brainwash the rich and poor alike. It was all the poor police force could do to try to maintain order.

I have heard of what these humans are like, Durzan thought to himself, But I do not know if what I heard is entirely true, or merely just an exaggeration. I need a way to test their character, to satisfy my curiosity.

Absentmindedly, he reached into his robe and pulled out a small black notebook, which had been given to him so he could log the names of those whos souls he had escorted as was his job. He tapped it lightly on the palm of his hand as he pondered his newfound dilemma. Dimly, an idea began to form in his head. He remembered an old friend of his... had years ago dropped something into this world, and was sufficiently entertained for years on end with the result. Maybe I could do something similar, the Shinigami thought.

I wonder... How would the citizens of this crime-ridden city react if I put the power of DEATH into their hands? What would happen? After all, DEATH is the ultimate test of character. Would some of them take it upon themselves to try to rid crime like one of my friend's own pupils? Will they use it for their own selfish purposes? Or will they just cause havoc?

Yes, that was it. He would put the humans of this city through a trial, and study how they reacted. He would test them with the power of DEATH. To do this, he would have to turn his soul log into something of legend... something that very few Shinigami actually used these days... Something that had not been used in a while. He pulled out a pen as black as night and opened the black notebook and began to write. The rubies set in his ring began to glow, as he channeled the power of Death. When he finished writing, there was a flash of light, and suddenly he was holding three black notebooks in his hand: one to keep for himself, and the other two to each become the device of legends.

He placed the original book back into his robes, then scratched the Roman Numeral I onto the cover of the second notebook, and the Roman Numeral II into the third. He opened up each book, exposing the back of the cover, and carefully wrote the words that would give these books the power of Death. His ring glowed with the power, as he finished the writing.

When he was finished, he smiled in satisfaction as he looked over his own handiwork. The words DEATHNOTE were elegantly spelled out in bloody red ink, with the rules and instructions written below. The humans were going to love this.He pocketed the second DEATHNOTE, he would keep it until the time came to give it to someone else.

"LET THERE BE MURDER AND MAYHEM!"ť The Shinigami roared in a great voice, raising the book above his head. Then with tremendous force he threw the first DEATHNOTE into a random portion of the city.

There, a random mortal would find it, and take it unto himself...the power of the DEATHNOTE would draw him to use it... and the fun would begin. The humans of this city would soon be tested beyond their wildest dreams, as the power of Death reigned among them, even more than it had before. What would happen? He did not not have the faintest idea, but it was sure to be... interesting. The Shinigami named Durzan laughed, as lightning struck across the sky and the rain seemed to renew its deluge. He was going to enjoy this.

    Gameplay:

This game uses a modified version of the Mafia RPG rules... the original post is located here. In order to avoid confusion, however, I have added a modified version of the rules to this thread.

Gameplay is divided into weeks (IE week 1, Week 2, etc), with each week beginning with a guaranteed death at the hands of Kira, proceeding through the Action Phase, and then ending with the Voting Phase. Gameplay begins when the first murder is made public on Day 1 of Week 1.

    Spoiler
    Show

Kira Kill: Once Per Week, anytime during the Action Phase, Kira can kill a single person using the Deathnote. The target then dies, in the manner described by Kira; if no description of death is given, the target simply dies of a heart attack. This ability bypasses immunity, and cannot be blocked by bulletproof vests; or protection provided by Bodyguards, Doctors, or similar protective roles. However, in order to kill someone using the Deathnote, Kira must first have made a successful shadowing check against the target at some point in the past.

Kira Kills leave very little physical evidence (if any) that would point directly to Kira, so all CSI attempts will only provide intellectual and circumstantial evidence at best. Thus, players will have to primarily rely upon the kill description written by Kira himself, as well as their own private investigation attempts in order too root out evildoers.

Action Phase: This phase begins on Day 1 after the lynch vote results have been tallied, and ends on Day 4. During this time players can search for clues by investigating the crime scene, shadowing other players, perform role special actions, perform other actions, post their findings in the game thread, and/or scheme talk privately with other players Via PMs. Actions are performed by PMing me what action you want to take, and to whom (if applicable). I then will secretly roll a 20 sided dice, add any modifiers to the roll, and consult a table for the relevant action. How successful you are at your action is dependent on the roll made. I will only respond to your first 3 actions each day, so choose what you do wisely. Also note that whatever actions you take MAY impact the rolls of future actions you make during the week.

Transition Phase: This Phase occurs on day 5. Players may still take actions as though they were still in the Action Phase, but any such actions should be wrapped up by the end of this day. Players may also start voting for the players they want to lynch.

Voting Phase: Begins on Day 6 and ends on Day 7. During the Voting phase, players present the evidence they found in the game thread for dissection. Using this evidence and its implications, players will try to convince each other of their own innocence and the guiltiness of others, as a vote will be tallied up during this time. During this time players may still publicly discuss stuff in the game thread, chat with each other privately through PMs, Perform Special Actions that can only be used during the voting phase, and of course vote. Other than that, players cannot perform any other actions during the Voting phase. Due note that players that are part of a faction with a Kill Vote may also use this time to privately vote on who to kill, and get the Kill Post written ahead of time.

Lynching: During the Voting phase, players present the evidence they gathered during the action phase, and use it to determine who to kill. All players that are still alive will shoot the Game Host a PM with their vote by Midnight MST of Day 7. Players may choose to vote for a specific player or to vote to abstain. Players are allowed to change their votes ONCE and only ONCE, so vote wisely. Once I have collected everyone’s votes, I will tally them up and the player who receives a clear majority of votes will be lynched. If there is a tie between two players, or the majority of players voted to abstain, then no one is lynched and play resumes as normal. Regardless of what happens, I will post the next Kill Post and play will resume as normal as the cycle begins again.

Jail: Players may, at anytime call a vote to jail a specific player for up to 3 days. In addition, if a player is caught in the act of torture, sabotage, or murder, they could be automatically given jail time. While in jail, a player cannot take any actions, can only make a single public post in the game thread once per day, and the post must be colored orange. There can only be one jail vote going on at a time.

Bulletproof Vests: A bulletproof vest is a one time use ability that grants you immunity to all murder attempts for the next 24 hours. If a role mentions a bulletproof vest, then they can use this ability. If it is mentioned that they have more than one bullet proof vest, then they can use this ability that number of times.

The Game ends when one faction has fulfilled its victory conditions, all but one player is dead, or a neutral killing role has satisfied their victory conditions.

    Recap of the Game Cycle:

    • Day 1 — Action Phase: Killing Vote (if applicable) occurs, Investigations begin and players start looking for clues.
    • Day 2 — Action Phase: Investigations and player actions continue.
    • Day 3 — Action Phase: Investigations and player actions continue.
    • Day 4 — Action Phase: Investigations and player actions continue.
    • Day 5 — Transition phase: All player actions and investigations should be finished by the end of the day; voting begins.
    • Day 6 — Voting Phase: The town picks someone to lynch by a simple Majority Vote.
    • Day 7 — Voting Phase: All voting needs to be finished by the end of the day. Votes are finalized and tallied; the player with the most votes (if any), is lynched. In the event of a tie or a majority of votes that have abstained, then no one is lynched that week.

    "Who is Kira?" Rules:

    Spoiler
    Show

Kira Kill: See the Gameplay section.
    Minimum Number of Players: 13+
    Factions:

    • Town: The town is tasked with tracking down and eliminating the supernatural serial killer Kira, who has been plauging the town relentlessly and causing fear due to his twisted sense of justice.
    • Kira Supporters: Are townsfolk who secretly support Kira's actions. To them at least, Kira is the ultimate expression of Justice.
    • Neutral: Are people who are neither aligned with Kira or the Town. Some neutrals want to just see the town burn, and don't care if Kira or some other serial killer is the reason why it burns; others want to axe off Kira, the town and everyone else in their way; But... most just want to survive, or deal with their own...um... personal... issues.

First Kill Rules: Kira must kill a fictional person. This kill will be posted on Day 1 of Week 1
Town Victory Conditions: Kill Kira, all Neutral Killing Roles (if any), and all Neutral Evil Roles (if any).
Kira Supporters Victory Condition: Kill All Detectives, Jailors (if any), Vigilantees (if any), the Mayor, and all Neutral Killing roles (if any). Ensure Kira's survival at all costs.
Town Roles: 1 Mayor, At least 5-8 Detectives, Doctors, Bodyguards, Criers, 1 Jailor (Optional), 1 Vigilantee (optional), and Civilians.
Kira Supporter Roles: See Roles Section below.
Neutral Roles: Neutral Benign roles (Optional), and at least 1 Serial Killer or Mass Murderer.
    Special Rules:

    1. No Kill Vote; Kira gets a free kill once per week, due to the Deathnote.
    2. Unlike most anti-town factions, the Kira Supporters faction is an uninformed minority. This has the effect of adding the risk of Kira Supporters accidentally killing, torturing, or lynching someone on their team. This is intentional, as it adds to the paranoia of the game, and forces both sides to tread more carefully.
    3. If Kira dies and cannot be replaced, then all members of the Kira Supporter faction commit suicide the next day, and they therefore lose the game.
    4. Once per Game, if Kira dies, one of his living supporters may take up the Deathnote and replace Kira. If the new Kira dies, then another cannot replace him, and all Kira Supporters commit suicide the following day as normal.

Achievements: See the achievements section below.

    Actions and Crimes:

    Spoiler
    Show
All the possible actions you can take during the Action Phase are as follows:

    • Shadowing: You attempt to find evidence of suspicious activity by following a person, keeping tabs on them, and searching their homes for suspicious materials. If you fail, you may find false evidence, or the person whom you are shadowing may find out.
    • Investigation: Not all information is given at a crime scene when it is first presented to you. By studying it, you can search for valuable information that may point you to the killer or give you a lead to follow. Crime scenes deteriorate with each investigation (Each investigation increases the difficulty of others rolls). Failure may result in skewing or destroying the evidence left at the crime scene.
    • Anonymous Message: You may send a short message to me that will be posted in the game thread for all to see. You can only send one Anonymous message per day.
    • Torture/Interrogation: You kidnap a victim and interrogate them for useful information. Failure could result in false information, death, jail time, and/or or the death of the subject.
    • Murder: A highly risky attempt to off someone, that should be carefully considered before carrying it out. Usually only carried out by gang members, serial killers, or evil people. Vigilantes also can kill. Failure could result in the victim’s escape, jail time, and/or the killer’s death. Unless the murder is carried out by professionals, the crime is carried out poorly, and leaves a bit of evidence behind if not properly disposed of. Each murder committed within 3 days increases your chances of being found out. An individual cannot kill more than once per day. A murderer may also leave a short message to be displayed when the victim’s body is found. (Note: The murderer must write out the murder scenario. How it was written and what it entails will be posted in the Game thread…)
    • Sabotage: Whenever someone commits a crime, I will automatically roll the die again to see how well the perpetrator was at *ahem*… cleaning up. This roll determines the starting difficulty for investigations. The perpetrator, or someone else may also request to actively sabotage crime scene after the initial “clean up”, in which case I make a separate roll and increase the difficulty accordingly. A player cannot try to sabotage the same crime scene more than once. A player may instead use the Sabotage action to remove a few crimes from their crime list, or to add additional crimes onto someone else's crime list. Doing so has a much higher chance of failure than sabotaging a crime scene.
    • Special Action: Use one of your role’s special abilities. May or may not involve a roll.
    • Other Actions: Want to do something that can’t fit under any of the options above, talk to me about it and I will see what I can do.

Crimes: When a detective or equivalent role uses his special ability on someone, they get a list of crimes committed based on previous actions they’ve performed in the past and/or based on their role. The possible crimes you can commit are:

    1. Arson
    2. Murder
    3. Theft
    4. Kinapping
    5. Corruption
    6. Tresspassing
    7. Destruction of Property
    8. Disturbing the Peace
    9. Conspiracy
    10. Solicitising
    11. Sabotage
    12. Stalking
    13. Jaywalking

    Available Roles:

With the exception of Kira, Players will be assigned a role randomly. Due note that unlike a standard game of Mafia, nobody in this game will start out knowing who's an ally and who is an enemy. Use shadowing or investigation actions to find your allies as well as your enemies. Allies are of the same faction as you.

    Spoiler
    Show

    Town Roles:

    • Civillian: An ordinary citizen who supports the Town. Has a single bulletproof vest, but no special abilities.
    • Mayor: The leader of the town. During the Voting Phase, the Mayor may reveal his role to the public; if he does so, then his vote counts as 3 votes for the rest of the game. The mayor may also check the ballot at anytime to see what the current voting tally is, regardless of whether or not they have revealed themselves. Once the Mayor has revealed himself, he cannot be protected by the doctor or the bodyguard; this practically guarantees his eventual death. The Mayor is immune to Cult Conversions.
    • Detective: An undercover cop, tasked with finding all evil-doers hidden among the town. Once per day during the Action Phase, the Detective can check a person’s crime record. Doing so can help narrow down which role a person is… or give an idea of what the person has been up to recently. Being trained in the art of CSI and Investigation, Detectives also recieve a small bonus to Investigation checks.
    • Doctor: An undercover medic, tasked with ensuring the survival of the innocent town members. During the Voting Phase, the Doctor can choose one person to protect for the next week. While protected in such a manner, the person being protected is immune to all Kill Votes and murder attempts as long at the doctor is still alive. The protection wears off at the start of the next voting phase, at which point the Doctor must choose someone else to protect. If Converted to the Cult, the Doctor’s role changes to a Witch Doctor instead of a Cultist.
    • Bodyguard: A person who specializes in risking himself in order to protect others. During the Voting Phase, the Bodyguard can choose one person to guard for the next week. Any torture attempts made against the person being guarded automatically fail. In addition, if any successful murder attempts are made against the person being guarded, then both the bodyguard and the murderer die instead of the victim. This ability bypasses almost any immunity.
    • Vigilante: A seeker of justice, outside the constraints of the law. Once Per Week, when attempting to kill someone during the action phase, A vigilantee may choose to automatically succeed in killing his target. This ability can only be used a maximum of 3 times per game.
    • Jailor: A citizen who secretly specializes in interrogation. Cannot die from a failed torture attempt, and gets a static bonus on all interrogation checks.
    • Crier: A news reporter with a very loud mouth…who also happens to be an obsessed fan of Paul Revere. A crier can send out up to 3 Anonymous Messages per day during the Action Phase instead of the usual 1.

    Kira Supporter Roles:

    • Kira: A serial killer who uses a Deathnote to kill someone. Kira is immune to ALL murder and torture attempts; any person who attempts to torture or murder Kira will end up dying. DEATHNOTE — Kira can use the Kira Kill ability once per week, anytime during the Action Phase. SPECIAL — Kira gains a static bonus on investigation checks and shadow checks, and can search a person’s crime record just like a detective can.
    • Death Judge: A corrupted judicial figure who has sided with Kira. Once per week during the action phase, the Death Judge can force an anonymous vote to lynch someone, just like the regular Judge. When this happens, the Death Judge’s vote counts for 3 votes, and the person with the most votes is immediately lynched. Abstaining is not possible during a forced Lynch. Important: The forced lynch is in addition to the normal vote at the end of the week, and does not hinder or prevent any other actions. In addition a player cannot vote to abstain during a forced lynch. A Death Judge may use this ability up to 3 times per game.
    • Supporter: An ordinary citizen who secretly supports Kira. Has a single bulletproof vest. Second Kira -- Kira has named a random supporter his successor should he die. Once per Game, if Kira dies, then one of his living supporters may take up the Deathnote and replace Kira as his rightful successor. Should the new Kira die as well, then another cannot replace him, and all Kira Supporters commit suicide the following day as normal.

    Neutral Roles:

    • Survivor (Neutral Benign): A dude who doesn’t care which faction rules over the MG; he just wants to be left alone! He has 3 Bulletproof vests that he can use but otherwise, has no special abilities. Win Condition: Survive to the end of the Game.
    • Executioner (Neutral Benign): A guy who has some inexplicable beef with another person. Like the Survivor, he has 3 Bulletproof vests that he can use, but otherwise, has no special abilities. At the beginning of the game, the Executioner is given a random player as a target. Win Conditions: See your target lynched by the town, and survive to the end of the game if possible. (As long as your target has been lynched by the town while you were alive, then this win condition is satisfied, whether you survive to the end or not. If the target is murdered, or dies by some other means other than lynching, then the Executioner’s role is changed to Jester.)
    • Spy (Neutral Benign): A man who is tasked with killing multiple specific targets. Once per day during the Action Phase, the spy Detective can check a person’s crime record. Doing so can help narrow down which role a person is… or give an idea of what the person has been up to recently. Win Conditions: Kill all other Spies. Kill all Executioners. Survive to the end of the game.
    • Psycho (Neutral Benign): A crazy dude who goes around biting people. Once per week during any phase, the Psycho may bite a single person. Doing so prevents the person from using the Anonymous Message action AND from posting anything in the game thread for the rest of that day. Win Condition: Bite 5 different people.
    • Guardian (Neutral Benign): A man who is obsessed with protecting a certain person. At the beginning of the game, the Guardian is given a random player as a target. Three times per game, the Guardian can protect his target as if he were a doctor. Win Condition: Ensure that your target survives to the end of the game. (As long as your target is alive at the end of the game, then this win condition is satisfied, whether you survive to the end or not. If the target is murdered, or dies while the Guardian is still alive, then the Guardian’s role is changed to Jester.)
    • Jester (Neutral Benign): A seemingly cheerful person with a secret death wish. Once per day during the action phase, a Jester can annoy a single person. Doing so has the chance of adding a single crime the target has to your crime record. Should the Jester be lynched by the town, one random person who voted for them dies the following day. Win Condition: Get lynched by the town.
    • Amnesiac (Neutral Benign): A dude who hit his head and forgot who he was. Once per game, an Amnesiac can discover who he really is. When this happens, the amnesiac chooses the role of a dead person and switches from the Amnesiac role to that role. When this happens, the entire town finds out that the Amnesiac remembered who he was, and what role he chose. Win Condition: Survive to the end of the game, OR assume a different role and satisfy that role's victory condition.
    • Serial Killer (Neutral Killing): A psychopathic murderer who tortures his victims. Receives a static bonus to Torture attempts and cannot die from a failed check. Once Per Week during the action phase, the Serial Killer can automatically kill a person whom he successfully tortured. This ability bypasses immunity. Win Conditions: Be the last player left alive, excluding Neutral Evil or Neutral Benign roles.
    • Mass Murderer (Neutral Killing): An axe-crazy sociopath intent on killing everyone. Receives a static bonus to murder attempts and is invulnerable to any Murder attempts made during the Action Phase… although a Killing Vote made by a rival faction can still result in their death. Once per week during the Action Phase, the Mass Murderer can go on killing spree. When this happens, the Mass Murderer picks one person to kill, and anyone shadowing that player also dies. This ability can only be used up to 3 times per game. Win Conditions: Be the last player left alive, excluding Neutral Evil or Neutral Benign roles.

    Achievements:

To make things even more fun long term, there is an achievement system that I have added to the game. At the end of each round (regardless of which variant was played), players can earn points by earning achievements, after which, they can then display the total number of points earned in their Signature if they so desire. This is purely for bragging rights, so don’t take it too seriously. The Standard Game achievements can be found in the main Mafia RPG thread alongside the base rules.

For the Who is Kira Variant, you can also earn the following Achievements:

    • I Support You, Kira! (Win a game as a Kira Supporter): +2
    • You got the Wrong Guy! (Accidentally kill someone who is part of your faction while playing “MG Mafia: Who Is Kira?”): +5
    • Unlucky Bastard! (Get killed by Kira’s Deathnote, While as a non-citizen Neutral Benign role): +5
    • Lucky Bastard! (Survive to the end of a “MG Mafia: Who Is Kira?” game.): +10
    • Too Dumb to Live! (Attempt to Torture or Murder Kira): +5
    • I Can Take a Potato Chip, and Eat it! (While Kira, troll your enemies by using an Anonymous Message to make an awesome speech about junk food): +10, with an additional +5 points added for each of the following references you include in the speech: a swimming lesson, a reference to Apples, a reference to a Shinigami, and/or a reference to your psychopathic need to become a god.
    • Shut Up Hannibal! (Send out 15 Anonymous Messages while playing as Kira): +20
    • Alas, Poor Unfortunate Kira! (Successfully Lynch Kira during week 1): +50
    • Magnificent Murderer! (Win a game of “MG Mafia: Who Is Kira?” as either the Serial Killer or the Mass Murderer): +50.

    Other Stuff:

    Circumstantial
Evidence: When joining the game, please make up something for each of the following and add it to your post. It will prove helpful when dealing with CSI, Framing, Sabotage, and of course Shadowing.

    • Character Name
    • 3 Character Hobbies.
    • Your Character's life Goal or Dream:
    • At least 1 Character Flaw.

This stuff will be used as circumstantial evidence at a crime scene, that can point to who the perpetrator may be... or someone who was framed in their place.

Kill Posts: Whenever a Kira Kill, Murder, Torture sequence, or other similar actions occur, the player making the attempt must write out the scenario and submit the narrative to... well the narrator (in this case, me). The scene should be reasonably descriptive, in order to give people good entertainment, and to help establish the tone of the game, and should have at least one alternative ending should the player prove to have failed, spectacularly or otherwise. When received, I will post it to the game thread, as unaltered as possible (Alterations may be unavoidable depending on the circumstances, though). The writing will serve as a description of the crime scene, as well as the first clues as to who the person who performed the action is. (Oh and for pete's sake, please keep the description down to PG-13 levels or lower, and of course follow forum rules.)

Suspicious Activity: The more actions you take during the Action Phase, the more likely you are to attract suspicion. Every action taken will increase the chances of other players getting significant information on you from Shadowing. These cumulative modifiers will reset at the start of each week. Do note that this doesn't affect your daily limit of 3 actions. As a result, you should probably consider using your actions sparingly during the week.

Co-Narrator: I wouldn't mind having a co-narrator to make things a bit easier on myself. If I do get a Co-Narrator, then he will be responsible for collecting all votes (whatever the cause), tallying them up, and presenting the results. The Co-Narrator may also choose to write newspaper articles detailing what transpired during the previous week... and if so, please try to make them funny. Specifics on other tasks would need to be discussed between me and the Co-Narrator.

    Recruitment:
Official recruitment days are Feb 5th through the 18th... although I am willing to put you on the roster before then... please, just be considerate of other games. The game will start the Monday after I've reached 20 or more players, or Monday, Feb. 27th, whichever comes first.

Due Dates: All actions for a given day during the Action phase need to be sent to me before 12AM MST for that respective day; if you send it to me after that time, then it will count as an action for the next day. All Votes during the Voting Phase, Voting Phase Actions, and Kira Kills need to be sent to me (or my Co-Narrator, if applicable) by 12am on Mondays MST.

Durzan, while your game absolutely is interesting I do believe I mentioned to you before that there's a sign up list for scheduling games. I'm fairly certain yours wasn't on the schedule.

Polite or not, all the time slots that I was interested in playing for have been already filled (IE the ones for February). I'm most certainly not gonna wait until May or later to start recruiting... Now, if it takes that long to get enough players interested, then fine, I won't start the game until then...

...especially since I might end up having another game going on during march, if people on the MG actually start signing up for it...

Edit: Sorry about this post guys. It was incredibly rude of me. Either way, the issues that were causing some frustration have been solved! Looking forward to playing.

That's no excuse and your attitude there as well as crowding the schedule means people probably aren't going to join your game. A fair chunk of the people who play on the forum run games every so often and this sort of behavior doesn't exactly endear yourself to them.

Sorry. Your game looks like a cool idea and I would totally be down to play it sometime, but the schedule exists for a reason and tbh there are already a lot of games going on, I really don't have time for another complicated one.

My Point: The schedule is a useful tool, but its just that, a tool, not the law. It seems more likely to be a guideline meant to ensure that each game gets a chance to be played and viewed, not the hard and fast rule that everyone here seems to treating it as. When used as part of a de-facto law instead of a guideline, it adds red tape to process of creating a game that restricts things more than they honestly should be.

Scheduling is good, and I admire that... but I think there is a point where its taken too far. 2 months is a long time to wait just to get your game into recruitment phase... with just one game opening every 2 weeks... thats just crazy. I mean I think I understand the why, (Low player count) but still...

Its a game... you shouldn't have to schedule when to play a game!

Edit: I would also like to apologize for the untasteful reply in my second post.

Counting games that already have their threads up... 8 games is a lot going on? How many people are playing in multiple games at once? That doesn't seem all that busy, even considering that there are games scheduled to be opening up in the next few weeks as well.

To be fair, I have only seen one game like these going on at a time on the MG, and even then, the games were few and far between, so forum members were jumping on it like frogs onto logs... at least, back before that forum became a ghost town...

It seems to me at least, that this scheduling has become more of a hard and fast rule, rather than the general guideline that it was meant to be.

Edit: Not to mention that it looks like the schedule hasn't been physically updated in weeks...

I'm in four different WW games at present myself, and it's a lot to try to keep straight for me. Most of the people who play here are in multiple games, easily 2 or more at a time.

The schedule post is updated as frequently as Lex-kat is able to do so.

Thank you for the information! :) Its kinda about what I thought, as nothing else would've led to the creation of something... well, like this forum. That still doesn't mean I agree with the need to require every single narrator to schedule their game. But rest assured, I am working on getting it scheduled. (As much as I hate that notion with respect to a game of all things. Its just not right... having to schedule a game...*grumble* *grumble*)

Still don't like the idea of most likely having to wait until May just to get this thing running... especially now that the thread is already posted.

I spent months working on this game (the base game that is, the WiK variant that you see here only took a few days to adapt from the base rules.), and I just want to host the first game ASAP so that others can learn how to play it so that they can host it later on down the road.

The schedule was last updated yesterday, actually - the edit time is the time at the very bottom of the post in small letters, not the date at the top. (And I would be in five games right now if I hadn't been horrifically and unjustly burned to death in Mass Chaos... Okay, by "horrifically and unjustly" I mean "I was a wolf and the vig apparently found me". Humph, details. )

But yeah, I definitely see how that would be frustrating, and you can consider this a preemptive sign-up for when the game starts.

Thanks. I'll add you to the list.

I've asked him to see if he can squeeze me in in the middle of February, but If he can't or won't, well, that just means we'll be playing in May.

One thing you could try is just asking people if they mind sliding their games back or switching spots with you or something. I know I'd be ok with it (though my next game isn't really coming up soon so I have less reason to care).

Update: Game is officially scheduled. Official Recruitment will be between February 12 and February 25th. However, if you want to chime in now, I wouldn't mind it too much... just try to be considerate of other games, please... especially since you guys have done so much for me already.

In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions or questions regarding gameplay or roles, feel free to ask.

If I'm in fewer games by the time of the official recruitment I may join in.

A suggestion: I'd suggest a singular Kira supporter role that can take over for them if they die, but perhaps with weaker powers. Just in case a lucky lynch takes out Kira in the first week or two.

Hm, I had considered that earlier, but my thoughts were inconclusive at best. At one point, there was a Second Kira role, but I deemed that too powerful within the context of the number of potential kills this game can go through in a single week. I suppose I could just copy a clause from the Cult Faction in the base game and alter it for Kira Supporters so that it says something like:

"Once per Game, if Kira dies, one of his living supporters may take up the Deathnote and replace Kira. If the new Kira dies, then another cannot replace him, and all Kira Supporters commit suicide the following day as normal."

That way we have a way to keep Kira's Supporters in the game for a little while longer, yet Kira remains the Supporter's main weakness.

Well, now I did. Do you have an alternative idea for what the Psycho's bite could do instead?

The whole purpose was to make it so that 1 random person couldn't defend themselves easily during a vote...

But I can see how that could prove a bit unfun... perhaps it could just limit the person to a single post or Anonymous Message during a 24 hour period.

In all honestly you can probably just drop the role for existence. You probably won't need it to be around unless you get around twice as many players as I'm expecting you will.
