Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0801 - #0810)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 801 through 810.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on May 6th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last time, 763 - Plotting Something enacted the next step in its grand master plan to seize control of the Awards by winning the latest Best of the Hundred tournament. While it mulls its next step, it moves on to the Best of the Thousand tournament.

It'll have to bid its time on its conquering spree, however, as there are still quite a few things to settle. The first of which being which comic is worthy of being the first to enter this set of the Best of the Hundred. So why don't we get it started by voting in....

Wow - some really nice strips. The old "Cleric's Feather Fall", Roy vs. Thog and the Semi-Elemental Plane of Ranch Dressing are all worthy contenders.

But in the end I'm going for "Celestial tree sloth attack" & the Flumphs: 805 - Dropping In

I like the action sequence in 803, and laughed at "cleric's feather fall" (806), "wild empathy backwards" (807) and "tea time" (810), but there's little real contest here. 808 Five Rows Down, Three Columns Over is epic stuff.
Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea
Our powers pale compared with the great heroes
Our battles don’t hit theheadlines or shake the earth
But they are few, can’t be everywhere, and we, many
So, when the world or universe needs saving, they come
But when people needs saving, we are the ones to appear
We're underdogs, but we rise up to the challenge to be heroes.

    808. The only reason I even feel the need to write anything else is the character limit.

802 easily. I adore the bit of character development fror Vaarsuvius--almost responding to Z's taunting with magical fury, but then reclaiming perspective on things.

As much as I love 802 (more than I like 800, at the very least), #808 is just an epic strip, by all counts.

As close as 807 comes to winning this for me, it's 808 all the way. Roy is one of my two favorite characters in the comic, and I love it when he gets these badass moments. And this may be his most badass moment yet. I think when I first read this, I probably jumped out of my seat and cheered for him. Love it!

Interesting set. A lot of awesome moments and character development for individual characters - Elan turning the tables on Nale for once in 801, V's character development in 802, Blackwing being useful despite the shinies in 803, a look at Sabine and Nale's relationship in 804, Belkar actually caring about someone else in 807, and, of course, Roy using his intelligence score in combat in 808. I think I'll go with 802, although 807 and 808 are really close.

While I love the Clerics' Feather Fall, I'll have to go with 808. shows us how to use your ability scores in combat, and there's no arguing.

The winner seems to be in the bag already so here is one vote for #810 The anticipation there is exquisite.

A nice selection of strips here. 808 is the obvious choice, but I'm going to throw a vote to Blackwing and Mr. Scruffy in 803

This is pretty close to being the most lopsided vote yet. I don't think it quite takes the most lopsided, but it's certainly up there. Lopsided enough that it completely destroyed the vote for third place, as only one other strip (802) received multiple votes. This only the second time something like this has happened.

I did want to break the tie. And, by rights, I should vote for 807 as it clearly deserves a lot more love. But "stop talking" just kills it dead. Or at least "hides the body enough for dramatic purposes".

This is Roy's shining moment of triumph (so far) in the strip, and it deserves to be highlighted as such. 808 it is.

    And with that....

    VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

808 Five Rows Down, Three Columns Over is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
