Lets Play: Pokemon Trading Card Game!

Yes, I'm starting another lets play. After the last one failed miserably I have learned many things from it. This LP will be different mostly with me playing a game I like.

The name of the game is Pokemon Trading card game. It’s where you play as a young man in a world obsessed with children’s trading card games. Sound familiar?

I will allow you to vote on his name, what kind of deck he will use, and what gy-club to fight. So it’s your chance to make this Lp insanely difficult by giving me bad decks to use against the wrong type. It will be a screenshot Lp and I’ll put in tidbits that fail at humor.

Chia, the biggest chain like that, that I know of has been books based on a video game based on a movie based on a book.

Having done several failed LPs myself, I want to share something I've found; updating less often than once every two or three days is all but suicide. I'm not sure if you've found the same though.

I played when I was 5. This game, and Blue version, improved my reading skills greatly. I remember regularly asking my mom what words were, until she eventually said "Just figure it out yourself".

I still thought it was awesome, even though I couldn't beat that one club with the Snorlax. Or was it Chansey? I forget, it's been so long.

Ni: “Oh dairy, you’d never judge me for narrating in third person. Today is so super special awesome! I didn’t get beat up at school, and now I’m going to get a real pokemon deck! No more rummaging for scrap cards. Now I’m ready to go off and become a children cards game master!”

I look through the deck real quick and it looked like a water/psychic deck. Pretty cool. Oh man, can't wait!

Dr. Mason: “Hey, Sam! Play with him for a while!”
He calls for one of his assistances. I don’t know, they all look the same. Why does he have so many anyway? And why does he need all these people and all the expensive machinery to research a card game?

Sam walks up to me, all hunched over. He speaks with an eerily dead voice. The kind of voice that sounds like a poor man who gave up on life long ago. I don’t think I like Sam very much. I'm too scared to say hi back.

Dr. Mason: “If you don’t do as I say,” He brought himself down to my level. His arm jutting right into mine. I felt the back of my hairs stand up. A sharp chill run through my back. The only thing I could think of was how he didn't smell like an old guy. “We won’t be able to proceed.” He gets like this sometimes. Probally some old person thing. It only happens once a month or so. Still scares the crap out of me, like most people.

Dr. Mason: “To use the attack command you need to attach energy cards to your pokemon,“ .(Energy cards are like land mana except they are attached to your pokemon. So when your pokemon is gone, the energy attached to is sent to the discard pile.)

(Alright people, decide. Charmander and friends, Squirtle and friends, or Bubarsaur and friends. One of these decks is really good. One is really bad. But I won't say which.)

Go with Squirtle. I seem to recall Bulbasaur giving me the easiest runs back when I played this regularly.

Take Squirtle. I don't recall how good or bad it was for the early game, but since I think we should go for (the totally overpowered) Blastoise deck on the long run, there's nothing wrong with getting a couple of cards for it right away.

Ni: “Yes!” Water is a good idea because their basic forms may be weak but their evolutions are tough. So my other pokemon can cover for them until I drown them later in the match. They are still girly as blaze though.
(My apologies to those who voted for charmander recently. I just update too quickly. The deck itself contains water pokemon. Along with a few fighting/psychic/normal.)

Tech: The secret of each club’s deck is encrypted in its Master Medal. Once you get a Master Medal, go to the computer room in back. You can place the Medals in the auto deck machines to create different decks!” Awesome! Not that I would use them but awesome nonetheless.

There's only so much absurdity that this game delivers. It's surprsingly down to earth. What I could do is go into more detail in the writting. I wanted to do that before, and now that updates are taking much less time, I could manage more details of how the protaginist sees the world. Also, I don't update on the weekends.

The old strategy of hammering my opponent with the same evolution gets a little dull and I wished for change. I left Rick there, preparing to face him later on.

All cards in the game can be good if you know how to use them. I beat Rick and Ronald(not saying much) on the first try with them. Properly used bugs can deal status effects along with damage. I was actually going to use the pidgey line as well, since I was using double energys to get my beefy pincer and scyther on the feild, but after the two hours of griding I had to do to get a beedrill, I decided not too.

I'm confident enough to fight the fire club with this deck, with slight modification.

I beat the game today, I won the last two battles by having my opponent run out of cards.
When I fought Rob, it was literally Abra vs Kangaskahn for 30 or so turns. I just had Abra keep using psyshock on Kangahskahn, which did no damage because of resistance, but paralysed him most of the time, so I was able to power up my team. He used the Prof. Oak card, which helped me. Eventually he got a switch card and used it, then proceded to kick my ass. His powerful cards massacred my psychic/ground team, and he only had one prize card left to claim when he ran ou of cards, while I had around 4.
I fared much better against Ronald, and I am very thankful that Moltres missed almost every single dive bomb attack, though he only needed to get one prize left before he ran out.

Lp update. I am having trouble fighting ken. When I win, it is extremly unimpressive. I'm trying to get an entertaining game but, when my strategy works, it completly shuts down his deck. I'll keep trying to get a good duel. Till then, keep ignoring my thread.

Thank you all for your input. It all makes sense now. I need embellish and write around things that happen. This entire time my Lp has been bland because of my devotion to keep the game vanilla as possible. I decided I wanted a challenge for my next fight, so I headed over the to the fire club. They made the club inside a volcano. It’s awesome and completely stupid at the same time. They keep saying that the volcano is inactive but, is it suppose to smoke out like that?

She didn’t, and now everything is fine. Except…..for some reason. I can’t help but feel a growing emptiness. Sure I won the cup but, it was so easy that it doesn’t really matter. People just get slaughtered when I duel them. *sigh* I don’t know. Maybe I can handicap myself more.

I'm incredibly easy going when it comes to things that amuse me, to the point where I can ignore major faults, so I might not be the best judge.

IF something doesn't amuse me, though, expect me to point out every single thing that's wrong with it.

I remember why I liked this game.

I don't really know how to make this game harder without greatly handicapping yourself. Maybe you play a theme deck rather than a powerful theme deck? Only allow yourself to win with a certain Pokemon?

Ni: “So yeah, things have been going fine so far.”

Ni: “Yeah…I-”
Ishihara: "Clean it up.”

Geez, I know I left his house a mess but that doesn’t mean he has to take that tone with me.
Ni: “Done!”
Ishihara: “Did you organize everything in alphabetical order?”
Ni: “Does it even matter?!”
Ishihara: “I suppose not, I already memorized everything in the books here.”
Then there was a period of silence. I don’t really know what to talk about. Luckily, my stomached talked for me.
Ni: “Er, I haven’t ate since yesterday.”
Ishihara: “I could let you have some food , if you pay me.”
Ni: “…….I don’t have any money.”
Ishihara: “Then pay me with a card.”
Wow, he really doesn’t know how to treat a guest.
Ni: “Um, gengar?”
Ishihara: “Fair enough.”

We ate ramen. I tried not to say anything because, I hate ramen. Oh well, better to live poorly then not at all.
Ishihara: “You know, Ni.”
Ni: “Hmm?” I said, poking my head out with a mouth full of noodles.
Ishihara: “You remind me of yourself, when I was your age.”
I didn’t say anything. There was just something about him that made me just want to shut up and wait for him to talk for me.
Ishihara: “I was a young lad, trying to make his mark in the world with card games. I went around beating everyone I ever played and continued on the path of championship. Yet, during the entire time I missed the point.”
Ni: “The point?”
Ishihara: “I took the game far too seriously. I made many enemies and no friends. I spent all my time alone and competitive. When I finally reached my destination, I turned around and quit.”
Ni: “What!? Why?”
Ishihara: “Because, winning was not worth what I was going to give up.”
I started at him for the longest time. Was he trying to tell me something? That I was going to do the exact same thing? He stood up.
Ishihara: “I have a business meting and must leave. You may sleep in my house if you wish. Goodbye.”
So he just walked out of the door.
What a terrible host.

It must be tough. Losing to someone who you once thought of nothing but filth beneath your feet. Then you realize, that its you all along that are worse than the dirt. So you just deny and scream and yell and pop a brain vessel trying to get what you want. A giant ego that forces mental leaps to believe what you want to believe, keeping you safe from what you want to deny.

Alright, some how I’m required by these shmups to keep a record of happenings. Not that you want anything to happen in this hell hole. The name is John luc Dewgong. Commander of the 327th strike division. The only strike division. I was recently transferred here due to "Important happenings near the cinnabar islands of the kanto region". Kanto, not exactly the most hospitable place in the world. Or the most technologically advanced. Or the cleanest. There is going to be an attack tonight. Something about a light house….power plant…generator…thing. I’m not really sure if it’s a good idea to have them in the same spot. I just know we’re suppose to capture it.

I’ve been called in since there was a veto on my list of standard lighting-pole beat down units. I met a Starmie named Garnet. It was in charge of keeping our resources all uniform and existing. It’s almost impossible to guess a Starmie’s facial expression and it is some kind of bureaucrat. I’m just saying, their kind goes hand in hand. It was sprawled over a desk with all kinds of paper work that needed to be done, which, thanks to bureaucracy, was handily ignored.

It spoke up as I entered the room. It is almost impossible to guess a Starmie’s gender. “There is a problem with your list of ‘Standardized procedures’.” Straight to the point. Surprising.
“What?” I said, in the most innocent voice I could muster. “No greetings to the new commander. Just 'You did something wrong and I’m here to tell you why'? Not exactly the most welcoming kind around here.”
“Commander,” it tilted itself downward. Nope, still got nothing. “Your list states that we require Marshtomps, Whiscashes, and Gashtrodons. We just don’t have any of those pokemon enlisted.
I gave him the stink eye. Alright, fear, now that’s something. “What kind of backwater selection of pokemon do you have?”

He gave me a list. It was very limited. Most of these pokemon are overly fragile, especially to lighting pokemon. Oh, and no Blastoises. I picked out the best of the lot, and we checked our resources. Garnet was suspired by my efficiency. Practically asked me to do his job for it. I picked out those who had the most survivability. I looked over the troops before we took off. No morale or experience. That’s just fantastic. So this is what’s it’s like to be on a suicide mission.

We approached the beach and we're ready to begin our operations. Unfortunately, a scout team of pikachus saw us first and we had to start before we were ready.

We sent in Polywhirls to slap them around.

And Polywraths to clean up the ground forces. It was both pathetic and humors that we used whirlpools, an attack designed to drown a large amount of steam-suckers, on a small amount of lighting-pole rats. After the battle it took us a while to get reorganized. We lost a lot of laprases.

The plan now is to gather ourselves to a rendezvous point on land. On my former posting, we used submerged Wailords to send signals over during a campaign. Now we’re just sending young pokemon to die because they don’t understand the meaning of tactics. Makes me appreciate the concept of celebrating pokemon diversity. To reasonable extents of course. Steam-suckers can freeze in hell and Lighting-poles can stick a rod up their….heh.

Scouting ahead, a group of Polywags encountered some Evees. We took them down, regrouped, and healed. We had a ridiculous amount of healing items with us. Who brought these, anyways?

Fought some Voltorb’s. Regrouped and healed. Rinse and repeat. I’m not sure if they even know we’re here. I mean, the light of the light house is constantly on us. We found ourselves a little base camp and got all the forces together. The way water pokemon travel on land is to create water streams that we dash across. With a lot of them, we can flood the area and gain instant advantage. However, we lack pokemon capable of producing large amount of water, so we take forever to do anything. I shouldn’t be complaining. The fact that we have had minimum casualties is a cruel act of god that is nudging me into paranoia. There is no way the enemy is just as crap as we are.

A damn Articuno came by and dropped supplies. Amongst other things, more healing potions. We use to use Wingulls and Pelicans. You know, that’s what they do best. I walked up to him and decided to have a little chat. “So, are you apart of the force or are you just playing delivery boy?” He did that hair….feather flipping thing and said, “I’m not into suicide missions.”
“But you are into package delivery.” A statement.
“Hey buddy,” He said, with an attitude ever so unfitting for such a bird, “I ended up here just like you. You know why they send us here? To die. And that just isn’t my style.”
He left and flew off. I knew what he was talking about. Some higher ups got tired of my face and sent me to backwater Kanto where I can drown in filth. What had I ever done? That’s another story for another day.

Truth be told, it wasn’t a camp. Just a bunch of bags and pokemon creating waterways down the path. We were about to head out when we heard a loud BOOM sound. Well, BOOM sounds are always loud. That’s why they go BOOM.

The enemy was maneuvering, retreating charging and flanking. All without actually attacking. It scared the troops half to death.

Gravelers came in amidst the confusion and began cracking heads. Everyone panicked, some ran into pokemon who were self-destructing. They have absolutely no discipline. So I stepped in.

I then began shooting at pokemon begging to explode. A group of Dewgongs joined me and we went about firing at anything that glowed.

Once everyone had calmed down, we were able to easily dispatch that enemy with, once again, minimum casualties. Not counting idiots as casualties.

They saw us first. Mainly because they have a lighthouse, with lots of lights. Their Electabuzzes fired away and hit us. The fact that we were getting stunned was the problem. We couldn’t’ make much progess in our charge since we were all getting clogged up into a dangerous funnel. We lost a lot grunts and it appeared a proper retreat was in order.

He kept them busy and allowed us to enter into water gun range. He kept all the pokemon who even thought of blowing their Pole asses off from exploding and saved us.

He retreated and we let our fastest men, the Seadra’s finish off what was left. I ordered my men to search the rest of the area. The Atricuno came and greeted me.
“I saved your ass, isn’t that swell?” He looked exhausted and was bloodied. We got him sprayed with our potions and after the intense stinging, gave me a smug smile. I gave him one back.
“Azure.”
“What?”
“My name is Azure, just in case you might give a damn.”
“I’m John luc Dewgong.” I waited for him to speak.
“I know, you lack basic etiquette, so I’m letting you know in advance drinks are on you.”
And that was the beginning of Azure’s position as second command and how we turned a bunch of crappy Kanto dweling bumkins into the finest Kanto dweling bumkins you’d ever seen. And were still not dead yet.

I had an interesting dream. I dreamt that I was home alone, as usual, and that I was cleaning the house. I heard a noise come from outside the house, but I didn’t see what was out. I was so focused on my task, even though I was practically done and was just doing the job over and over. Something outside really interested me, but I never went outside. I was so curious about it, yet, I was so scared to even look through the window. The house itself was covered in shade, and it was hard to see the dust I needed to clean. It all looked clean. Yet there I was, still cleaning.

Man, is that all my life is about? All that is left? The past few days, that was…. Which few days. I can’t remember. I can’t remember….. What day it is? What happened? Did I have these dreams before, in these past few days? I can’t remember If I dreamed or not. And then, something inside me just got me up. I wasn’t sleepy anymore. But, I don’t know what’s going on. I was awake, in this empty house filled with books. Next to me was a piece of paper and….. Six fully constructed decks. I made these right? Over these….past few days? Wait, there are only four grand masters. Why do I need six decks? The paper said that I have been called to the Pokemon Dome and are to be challenge by the grand masters. I had an hour left to get there. Amazing how all this timed out.

I entered Ishihara’s house. From the corner of my eye I could of sworn I saw Ronald but that is such nonsense. He is gone now.

Alright, the cards stopped glowing but….but….
Ishihara: “Your coin result is tails I shall go first. I shall begin by playing a squirtle, giving it water energy then benching a charmander and bulbasar. It’s your turn.”

Ni: “…….my cards are all blank.”
Ishihara: “Let me see, no, you have a basic pidgey in your hand, and tons of other seeable cards.”
I play the card he pointed too. I can sort of see the cards now. I equip it with psychic energy end.
Ishihara: “I play Pokemon breeder to Evolve squirtle into Blastoise.”
A Giant turtle with Cannons coming out of his shell on tops of his shoulders was looking down at me. I have no idea how else to describe this.

Ishihara: “Then I activate Pokemon trader to trade a second blastoise in my hand for a Venausaur. I play my second breeder to evolve bulbasaur into Venasaur. Now I play item finder to discard two grass energy to bring a breeder and use it to evolve charmander into Chizard. I play professor oak. Now I attack two water energy to Blastoise and three to chizard. Another professor oak and now….”
He just kept going and going until….
Ishihara: “I play the card “Perfect circle“. This card allows me to pull all of my discard pile, including this card, back into my deck and I draw seven cards.”
Ni: “That card doesn’t exist!”
Ishihara: “It does now. This is my realm. Blastoise finish that pidgey.”
A torrent of water comes from his Blastoise and hit’s the Pidgey. Feathers and blood fly everywhere until a bloated corpse of a small, plucked, bloodied, bird remains in a pool of water. It’s eyes were wide open. It was it’s final look. A look of despair and horror. It was looking up at me, asking “Why? Why?” I let it suffer.
Ni: “Stop this! It’s over!”
Ishihara: “Whatever are you talking about you still have a benched Seel.”
It was true, I did, I had to send him in to die.
Ishihara: “Don’t you just love the pokemon trading card game?”
I hate the pokemon card game. I mean, I loved it at first, it was so exciting and fun. But, it just lost it’s fun and excitement. I was taking things to seriously. The wrong things to seriously.

Seal came out of a poke ball on my belt. Neither of which was there before. It’s too be excepted really. It looked up at the Blastoise. It knew it was going to die. That I was going to let it die.

Ni: “I play, Overdrive finish! This allows me to play all of the pokemon in my deck in the arena and all your benched pokemon to your hand. If I defeat the opponent’s arena pokemon, I win the game.”
Dwegongs, Buterfrees, Beedrills, Polywraths, Blastoises, Chizards, Venaursaurs…..Every pokemon I’ve ever used stood by my side. It’s me who was going to get the first attack.

I charge straight for Ishihara and……I can’t do it. I stop mid punch. I look at his face. I look a lot different when I’m older. I laughed, because otherwise I would of cried.
Ni: “I’m sorry.”
Ishihara: “It’s both our faults. But, you have time. Your life isn’t over yet.”
We both sat down on the ground, the pokemon surrounding us gone.
Ishihara: “You don’t have to do much. Just, spend more time with people, pay a little more attention at school, enjoy yourself. Enjoy your hobbies. Relax and enjoy what you do have. Don’t focus on what you don’t have.”
Ni: “Why did it have to be like this? Our childhood. Why am I battling myself like this? Nobody else has too.
Ishihara: “Don’t worry about everyone else. Don’t care what they do and don’t have. They have their own problems.”
Ni: “Not as bad as mine.”
Ishihara: “There is always somebody worse off then you. You have a home. You have a parent. You have a friend.”
Ni: “…..Maybe I can help those people someday.”

Ishihara: “Maybe someday. Your trek is over now.”
Ni: “Finally my journey is over.”
Ishihara: “Our journey just began, this is the very start.”
Ni: “Hahahaha! Oh…. Well, at least I’ve laughed instead of cried.
Ishihara: “We’ve been crying this entire time.”
Ni: “Nobody listened.”

I began floating in the air, I was being lifted off the ground and going upwards!

Ishihara: “Don’t forget what I’ve told you! Don’t concentrate on the things you can’t do, focus and what you can do!”
Ni: “I’m not such a bad guy once I get to know me, huh?!”
I floated and phased through the roof. Off into the sunset. Then I woke up.

Will I tolerate the audience getting confused and or angry?

I'd like to think this lp was a way of getting bad writing out of my system. I'd like to think that. I hope you can all forgive me. I enjoy lping. I'd like to lp some more. I did get better at writting during the course of this. Maybe someday, I can rewrite this hunk of junk to have proper foreshawdoing and allusions. Untill then, hunk of junk it shall be! My vision was blurry at first. I heard knocking at the door and got up out of bed. My head hurt a bit, but it got manageably better. I opened the door and, Ronald came tripping into my room.

“Dude!” He exclaimed, shaking my drowsy body. “The official tournament is today!.”

This opened a series amount of questions such as “How did you get into my house? What time is it? What day is it? Is my mom home? Really, I do look like hell? Huh?”

After rubbing my eyes furiously I looked into my mirror. I looked like hell frozen over. I ignored Ronald’s ranting and began inspecting my orifices. The news? Terrible.

“I’m sick.” I said plainly.

“But, you got to win man. Five-hundred dollars? You could buy yourself some clothes, a three-sixty, women.”

“Screw the tournament. It’s such a pain anyway. Takes the love out of the hobby.”

Ronald gave a good look at me. I answered with a whitish tongue sticking out of my mouth.

“Alright then.” He said, then leaned against my drawer.

“Alright then what?”

“Alright, alright.”

“So what are you going to do?”

“I got nothing to do.” He said with a shrug. He began looking through my drawers.

I crossed my arms, “So you’re going to stay.?”

“Yup.” He pulled out some old cards. They were covered in dust. I couldn’t really see what kind they were.

“Hey,” I said with an embarrassed look on my face. “Can you help me do something for my mom? You do have nothing else to do, right?”

“Meh. Kay.”

So me and Ronald did some work around the house. Just in time for mother’s day. I just hope she gives a hint of care. Besides, it was a lot more productive then card games. Not that I don’t like card games. There are just more important things.
