Der Rulez

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

And here, linked for your convenience, are the previous incarnations of this thread.

Also it's DIE rulez.

You should have used that time to banter. So it would have reached page 50 hours ago.

Goddammit, somebody at EA wants me to fail out of academia and is trying his damnedest to make it happen.

A sale on Dragon Age? Just after L4D2 came out? Frack-a-doodle-doo.

EA'z on salez, temptin' yur soulz?

going to hell for that one...

Better that than having a horde of new Skaven, Gal Civ II, Tropico 3, and a handful of new Warlord models staring you in the face...just waiting, waiting for you to give in...

It's okay, they say, give in to us...we'll make it all better...

I'm not sure I should be driving today.

Why, you may ask? Well, if I didn't know for sure that I didn't have enough time to take a webcam photo, I'd show you. But basically, there's a pinkish mark between my eyebrows right now, where my sinuses meet, and I can feel the dull pain of pressure building up right at that spot. It gives me the sensation of falling asleep, or not being able to fall asleep.

Not the sort of sensation you want when guiding half a ton of metal down a highway at 55 mph.

:smallfrown: Nevertheless, that's what I'll be doing in about 10 minutes. This will supposedly help build my confidence with driving, though the way things are going, what it seems to be doing is building my hatred for cars.

It gives me the sensation of falling asleep, or not being able to fall asleep.

Not the sort of sensation you want when guiding half a ton of metal down a highway at 55 mph.

:smallfrown: Nevertheless, that's what I'll be doing in about 10 minutes. This will supposedly help build my confidence with driving, though the way things are going, what it seems to be doing is building my hatred for cars.

thats probably not a good thing to be driving with.... :smalleek:

Yeah you're going to have to fix the thread title (like I did in this post! :smallwink: )

So, I'm working tech for our school's play. We have a looot of techies for it, so I'm spending a lot of time hanging out in the back somewhere studying whatever catches my fancy for my Learning hour, and often more than one. Shintoism, specifically the Kojiki, at the moment...

The issue is that it does last from 3:30 when we get out, until 9. But, lot of empty space in that time, so it works.

So, out of curiosity, what does everyone do when the forum backups are happening? Whatever it is must take a really long time because it seems like it takes hours for people to start posting in threads again once it comes back up. Maybe it's just me.

Me? I go to the vending machine and grab a snack and then come back and top off my coffee. By that time things are usually good to go again.

Usually I'm having breakfast (with extra strong coffee) and getting ready to go to work, so when I get to my office, things are running (albeit slowly) again. :smallcool:

I love me some Blur! A friend of mine burnt me a mix, and "Girls and Boys" was on it. I thought it was the coolest thing. Then I went to California for the ComiCon in July, and as I walked down the streets of San Diego I heard it playing from a sushi bar/club. It was righteous.

I just listened to some Mogwai (it appears I may have their entire discography O_o). They seem very...relaxed. Not the mood I'm in at the moment, but possibly good for sleeping.

Not death metal, but the start of say, most of their albums is very slow, and builds to a climax, all very post-rock (oh dear I've started on the genre naming).

I know I'm late, but woo! new thread. Shut up, I can totally use interjections in the middle of sentences.

I'm very picky when it comes to naming genres. I need to get a very specific sub genre, even though I can't actually tell the difference. I mostly go "well, this sounds kinda like that other band, which sounds sort of like that band #2, who the Wikipedia article says is melodic death metal".

Well...I might be opening up a can of worms here, but I'm kind of hoping for a decent turnout, so...

This is my blog. (http://newmediastudentjamesraskopf.edublogs.org/) I blog for school because it is a class about New Media, and blogging is New Media. I blog about different things I find on the internet. And, this being very near the end of the semester, I am very out of things that I can think of to blog about that the teacher and students would actually find interesting.

So to make it more interesting, I'm asking people to post a site that they visit every day in the comments for my most recent blog post. On Friday, I'll count up all of the posts, and pick the one most frequently cited (Or pick among the suggested sites that have tied). Then during the weekend I will do a write-up for that particular site.

If any of you want to jump in and post a site that YOU visit daily, feel totally free to do so. (Heck, you could even ask me to do a write-up for GITP!) If not...well, then just don't click on that link I showed you.

I'm only posting this here because you guys are trustworthy enough that I don't worry about accidentally inviting a troll into my blog. That, and I need at least a little bit of turnout to make this worthwhile. ^^; I'm not making any money off of this, and while it might impress my teacher, it will not directly affect my grade.

Edit: Only a few hours, and already the Playgrounders outnumber the students from my class 2 to 1.

...Good thing this topic moves fast. ^^; Please don't flood the post too badly. O.o;;

Hey, so does anyone else have the problem where they have certain phrases linked to trigger words in their brain, almost to the point of excessiveness?

For me, it's like this:

YOU! (like on the picture thread) links to the Electric Six song "Gay Bar."
You people links to "Whaddya mean, you people?"

And then, unfortunately, most things link to losing The Game, which causes me much fun with my roommate who rages every time I tell him he lost.

As for the video...wow. Just, wow.

I was wondering how they were going to cover some of the more erm...mature parts of that song...but they did it with aplomb. Huh...you hardly ever see the word "aplomb" used these days....kinda strange that word, huh?

And of course, the end was just...it made me grin so much.

Teaching your baby misspelled words, right from the beginning? For shame, Alarra. :smalltongue:

Winnie the Pooh was one of my favourite series as a kid. I remember in particular an old book from the ~1960s, that my dad had when he was a kid. It was full of Winnie the Pooh stories, and others by the same author. I should go find that book again sometime...

Really, I'd be happy with any kind of mythical beast. Dragon, pheonix, basilisk, anything like that would be fine. Although if I had to pick one, I'd pick a narwhal. They're basically sea unicorns, so I think it's clear that they're the best possible Christmas gift.

Or if that's infeasible, eternal life would be okay. I guess.

Hmmm... I'll get back to you on that one, okay?

While you're waiting, have some snuggles and hot chocolate.

So. Zeb's WAY behind the times as far as PC games go. A couple of days ago I started playing Assassin's Creed for the first time. I'm not that far into it, but I'm having a good time. Now, if only I could get it straight in my head which button is 'walk' and which is 'blend' and stop letting off the wrong one when I'm trying to just stop walking in a hot zone, I'd be doing a lot less running through alleys. :smallcool:

Well, to be fair, the brilliance of Jane Austen's work wasn't the plot, but the witty dialogue and incisive social commentary, much of which is irrelevant in the 21st century.

It occurs to me, through a haze of frustration and fatigue, half-blind from staring at a word processor and driven mad by reading the same passage over and over, that Jane Austen is simply not dead enough.

If I could find a way to, like, double kill her. That would take the edge off.

Zombie Austen attack? Would that help? Gets out the rage and is socially acceptable!

I've got this 'university' down now I think, I even have a (semi-)clean room. Pretty great.

@Gwyn Chan blah blah blah: I shall try and find them, they sound interesting. I thoroughly recommend Mogwai, but you need to find time to listen to each album all the way through, it doesn't really work when split up.

How to Exhaust A Curly

1. Take one essay with only 71 words written the day before it is due in.
Add one rehearsal that starts at five o'clock in the afternoon and finishes at midnight.
2. Add one Curly who has 641 words done by the time she gets home from said rehearsal.
3. Add three and a half frantic hours of typing that leave her with a 3 370 word essay.
4. Mix in a little insomnia resulting in her falling asleep at five a.m - four an a half hours before her tutorial.

5. Then take a bill payment (always stressful) and mix with two hours of laundry and reading for a class at four.
6. Add a snatched lunch before going on a two hour shopping trip for booze.
7. Take two dozen bottles of beer, a dozen bottles each of white and red wine; eight litres of juice and one hundred and sixty six cups; put into bags, divide into three of carry to storage place.
8. Allow an hour and a half to rest.
9. Take a class at ten past three, followed immediately by another hour long class and stir until thoroughly exhausted.

10. For the piece de resistance, allow ninety minutes for showering, dressing and carry drinks over to venue before warmup for performance.
11. Perform for two and a half odd hours; add an after-show first night cast part and repeat steps 4, 9, 10 and 11 daily for four additional days.

Repeat steps 6 and 7 once more. And on the final repetition of parts 4, 9-11 add in one extra two hour rehearsal for a choir performance in one week.
The day after that another choir rehearsal, and the same for Monday and Wednesday. Make allowances for the friends who'll be coming up or down to see oneself in either performance.

Plus an essay.

Here endeth the recipe of exhaustion.

EDIT:
@Rutskarn: RAGE! Jane Austen is a really good writer. Will explain why later, perhaps, but now it's off to step 9 of the Recipe To Exhaust A Curly.

After first night party seems an odd idea to me. I mean, we tend to go out for a drink or two each night of the performance, but the actual after show party is only for the last night. Don't want to be knackered and hungover on stage (Drunk, now, drunk is another matter...)

Kids are just as manipulative. I watched a group of kids on a playground. Most of them were boys, but there was this one girl there. They were playing with their toys and the girl decided to feint intrest in something. I knew it was fake and she hated it, but of course, all the little boys quickly swarmed around and started fighting over it. The girl then proceeded to take the thing she really wanted that one of the boys was playing with before he dropped it.

So, I just got back from lunch, and I realized after having my first Coke in the last year and a half that I don't like soda anymore. Over the last three years I slowly switched to drinking just water and the occasional juice, and I was at a restaurant that didn't have any of either, so I just got a 20-oz bottle of Coke. It took me just over half an hour to finish the thing, and I'm now feeling very full after a relatively small lunch and very sleepy.

On a completely unrelated note, my cat has just perfect timing. He decided to throw up right after we finished vacuuming the carpet. Even after we cleaned it up he's still trying to bury it (pulling his paws across the carpet where he puked, not so good for the carpet).

Me and 4 friends once hid under some coats during a capture the flag game. As soon as the game started, we, ran out along the side, and half of us got to the flag, and the safe zone, me and my friend. On our way back with the flag, I was caught, but we captured the flag within 3 minutes of game start.

We would have had 3 people safe with the flag, but one of my friends chickened out, and began to run back towards our zone... Not cool.

One of our guides was from Texas, and he started making fun of his friends back in Texas. That would be the Republic of Nauru. If we're going by percentages.

Oh okay. I thought I read something about the US been pretty high up there.

Well, I'm pretty far from Toronto. I'm in Vancouver. They get snow, we get rain.

aw. rain is pretty awesome, even if you cant make rain-men. :smallwink:

Then you're just not trying hard enough. Plus, you can't pour snow, so so many things get ruled out. But floods are one of those things, so that's another point for snow.

Could I come in the fort too?

Got a friend who lives over there. Have to phone him in the middle of December or something and ask if there's enough snow there for him.

And really, everywhere East of here gets snow. :smalltongue: We don't get any, though. It's almost like the clouds look down at us and say 'snow? Sorry, those guys east of you took it all, we haven't got any left. Got a whole lot of lovely rain though, you can have that.'

But Nauru has like 13000 inhabitants, so USA has the most fat people.

That's why he specified "if we're going by percentages"

If America were to just take all our obese people and make them a new country, we would have mad an EXTREMELY LAZY COUNTRY.

In Soviet Russia, EXTREMELY LAZY COUNTRY make YOU!! out of obese people!

Weirdly enough, Toronto has had zero snow this year so far. A frost or two, but absolutely no snow. Its very strange. Must be global warming or something.
