The armies of Senzycul and Cypratene that were once stationed to combat the threat within Deeplyn fortress have been forced to move on to face a fiercer battle with the nation of Mallundona and Antion. Mallundona and Antion have yet to combine their efforts, but the possibility looms and this would be devastating for the forces of good. Cypratene(neutral) was founded as a refuge for the wars that had raged between the nation of Antion and Senzycul(good), it normally does not raise it's armies to actively combat against the forces of Chaos(Antion) and Evil(Mallundona) except in times of great need as it often proves to be more neutral good rather than pure neutral.

As you've ventured through the Aldmere forest you've passed more than a few caravans heading south and on their way to Cypratene. You've heard tale that the Tsol'aa village a rather peaceful nation of flying elves has received several attacks from the fortress of Deeplyn. You are now making your way through the Aldmere forest to the Tsol'aa village.

Fayne continues to trek through the tropical forest (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/95/Tropical_forest.JPG) hearing the sounds of the various wildlife that inhabits the area. Once and again she spots humanoid creatures flying above, they tend to stick to altitudes matching the tops of the trees.

As she nears, where the she was told the village resides she sees only trees. The path continues to the north, but she's almost certain she would have arrived by now.

Fayne looks up, trying to see what is flying above her and, more importiantly, if they seem threatening.

She also looks around in general for any clue that may point to her have gone off track.

[roll0]

If she sees nothing, she simply continues following the trail, keeping an eye out for some sign she is headed in the correct direction.

Upon looking up she is able to see the village she is looking for. The Tsol'aa themselves are the creatures she had seen darting above. The dwellings are incorporated into the canopy so well that if you weren't looking for them you'd miss them completely.

However, upon seeing the armed warrior enter their forest the Tsol'aa have their archers ready and poised to strike her down with the famed Tsol'aa longbows. One amongst them steps forth now that she is aware of them and calls down to Fayne, "What is your business here, child?"

"Tis not rumors, come child and join us, we will tell you all about it." The leader signals to his men and they lower a ladder that extends its way into the canopy.

"Once the orc Vu'kub moved into the fortress, he has taken upon himself the title of baron and all manner of monstrous beasts have been plaguing the valley of Deeplyn and further still into our Aldmere forest. The armies of Cypratene were able to keep many of the beasts at bay, but a larger threat looms for them now which leaves us practically defenseless. Our village has been attacked on numerous occasions, so we have little to offer in the way of reward. Except, perhaps the fortress itself... but you'd need to thwart the orc baron. He is an evil one indeed, there are tales that those who fall in the jungle valley of Deeplyn are found to rise again, attacking those they once called friends. If you are up to the task we can mark the way for you." He looks to you awaiting your answer.

"You are indeed a brave one, thinking you can succeed where an entire army could not. Anyhow, continue on the path further north. Once you pass the lake the trail will begin to steepen and it'll bend back and forth before you are able to reach the trail descending into the valley. You'll need to make your way through the jungle for a short bit before climbing once more to the steep the fortress rests upon looking over the valley. Be aware that their are three towers with lookouts constantly posted. You may yet find a way in without being spotted, but I am not sure what path that might be."

Once again they lower the ladder for you.

"Good luck child, we pray you succeed where armies could not."

"My men have only flown above it, we dare not risk being attacked by what resides within the fortress. A safe bet, however would be any number of orcs loyal to the baron."

Fayne makes her way on the path as described by the flying elf. Once in the jungle, however, she is soon surprised as a jaguar leaps out of the trees biting at her neck and swiping its claws across her body. The jaguar now has the taste of Fayne's blood in its mouth and has successfully torn into her shoulder.

Fayne, seeing the beast driven off, drops out of her offensive stance, though she keeps her weapon out, mostly using it as a walking stick.

She takes a second to look her wounds over and decides to keep going.

As she crests the hill, she looks around, attempting to spot the watchtowers she was told of.

If she can see them, she takes a mental note of the path that keeps her furthest from them and takes it.

If not, she presses onward toward the fort anyway.

Deeplyn Fortress is nestled between the shoulders of the Vashnar mountains resting upon a plateau that rises above the jungle floor. There are three watch towers visible to you and a couple buildings each marks a corner in the fortress wall, roughly in the shape of a pentagon. The first two towers are on either side of the southern wall a gate is visible between them. Another two entrances are visible between the wall that stretches from the southwest tower to the tower marking the western corner. Of note, the greatest distance between towers is found on the southwestern wall. It's harder to make out but you think you can see an additional gate on the wall stretching from the southeast tower and the building marking the eastern corner. The final building is in the middle to the north marking the northernmost corner of the pentagon.

As darkness descends Fayne takes the westernmost route and reaches a point where she can climb up the rock face a distance of about 50 ft. or she can head further east to where a trail leads into the southwestern wall of the fortress.

Fayne reaches the top feeling quite exhausted from both the climb and the fight with the two jaguars. She looks up to the walls and judges them to be about 35 ft up and the tower appears to be about 45 feet up. As she is judging the height of the fortress she is able to spy an orc pacing the wall and at least two more within the tower itself watching out for intruders. She can barely see the second tower as it hides behind a piece of mountain that juts up through the plateau.

Fayne begins looking around for a suitibly hidden spot to camp down for the night. Assuming she can find one, she rests.

If all goes well, she spends the next day hidden, watching as best she can, trying to get a feel for the general numbers of her opposition. She also notes shift patterens, if possible. She plans on moving in after night falls.

Leinad

Fayne is able to find a suitable hiding spot behind the bit of mountain that pokes up through the edge of the plateau. In addition, to the cover it provides from the orcs watchful eyes on the watchtower it also provides some shade as she rests during the day. Her, being mindful of the enemy presence is able to wake from time to time and notice that during the daytime, one or two orcs stand miserably on the tower roof, squinting in the sunlight, while the rest of the orcs sleep inside the towers. At night, two more watchful sentries man each tower and the rest of the orcs can be found anywhere within the towers, on the walls, or as she'd assume in one of the buildings or courtyard. At least one sergeant patrols the walls during the daytime, keeping the guards on their toes.

Nightfall has descended once more and the extra set of sentries have taken their place within the towers. An orc sergeant dutifully patrols the walls keeping his orc in line.

Each tower has three levels: a ground floor, a middle floor, and a top floor or roof. Built to house active guards for the keep. The ground and second floor areas each have arrow slits that look outside the keep, and the top floor is protected by a crenelated wall (but no roof ). There are two gates on the western side and neither of them look like they have seen much use lately. A wooden cart filled with decaying materials sits near the gate nearest the tower in the south-west corner. Fayne continues to go unnoticed by the orcs within the tower.

If Fayne wanted to attract attention, she certainly did it! With the eruption of flame she is able to see commotion coming from both towers on the western side. potion of cure light wounds - Surely you've seen that sort of potion before, so no need to identify.
Alright, so 9 orcs at 1/2 CR plus the 2 sergeants at 1.5 CR since they had an extra HD. The number I'm coming up with seems low.. and standard treasure whatever that means on all of them. Within the gates, you can see that this once pristine fortress has been turned into squalid living quarters for the orc's presence. There are two hallways one extends to the north-west and the other heads directly east, both are likely to lead to the other towers you saw from outside the fortress. There are a few lamps along the walls, but none are lit. It is very dark, aside from the soft glow of the moon.

Nothing terribly notable, especially in the darkness, aside from the utter squalor the orcs have turned these halls into. A few windows line the inner wall allowing for some light, and upon looking out you see a jungle wolf upon a chain in the courtyard. Also, you can see lights emanating from either of the buildings on the far side of the courtyard. Occasionally, you hear small grunts coming from further down the hall.

As Fayne continues down the hall, she manages to bump up against some sort of cranking device (probably for the gate to your left). The sound resonates throughout the hall of the fortress and she can now hear the clambering of another four orcs headed her way. The hall is 15 ft wide and the orcs are in a diamond like formation. The fourth one hangs back with his longbow, pulled and ready to fire. While the other three are headed your way, Falchions drawn. They are roughly forty feet away at present.

OOC: Took this level in Swordsage. It was either 6 maneuvers in different schools, or one maneuver and a feat. Took the more maneuvers, gained an area attack and some ranged options. And a teleport. And my new stance should decimate these orcs. Next level is in Warblade, however. I'll get 2 feats then also, one of which will be Improved Unarmed Strike. I will then officially qualify for Mo9. The other will probably be Power Attack.

For the record, I'm super feat starved.

33,000 silver pieces
moss agate gem
azurite gem
blue quartz gem
fire opal pendant on a fine gold chain
2 Everburning torches
..and of course the Falchions that once belonged to the orcs.

Additionally, there is a door just east of the tower and it is locked. There is a sign that once explained the purpose of the room, but it is now marred with some sort of orcish scrawl.

As shes talking, she begins unshackling them.

Leinad
2010-04-18, 02:20 AM
"You... you killed the troll?

I'm quite impressed, but if you are looking for who is in charge you'll have to head further north on into the mines. The baron gives his service to Wee Jas and delves in the art of necromancy.

He uses us to help in preparing the mines to conduct his evil art, those of us too weak end up as one of his undead minions.

The troll you killed served as one of his lieutenants and was the source of many a beating.

There are more of us in the building just east of here and you'll reach the doorway that leads to the mining path in the same hallway"

Koury
2010-04-18, 02:38 AM
Necromancer, eh? So I'm gonna have to chop up a bunch undead, in addition to a bunch of orcs? OK. So, any of you guys who feel like it, there are a bunch of dead orcs all over the place. If you feel like helping me, go put on some of their armor, grab their weapons and go cause some chaos for me. Or just go home, whatever works.

She finishes unshackling them all.

Anyway, I suppose I'll go kill some more orcs and see if I can find this necromancer guy. Thanks for the heads up.

She then mutters to herself Why are necromancers always jerks? I'd be so happy if I ever heard about a necromancer who went around helping people...

Fayne heads out to the other hall, assuming there is nothing of value in here.

Leinad
2010-04-18, 02:47 AM
"Sorry, Ma'am as much as I'd like to help you, we are in no condition to fight. They've barely fed us and we've all put in a full day's work in the mine. As for going home... I think we'll all just sleep a little more soundly knowing the troll is dead."

Heading down to the next building Fayne finds much the same picture as she did in the first. The stench from all the bodies in such cramped conditions is quite strong.

Koury
2010-04-18, 03:40 AM
You guys are aware you all stink, correct? Anyway, trolls dead, a bunch of orcs too.

Fayne unshackles the slaves.

So is there a treasury around here that one of you guys could point me to? Otherwise, could you guys point me to the nearest orcs? Better yet, who wants to lead me to the mines?

Leinad
2010-04-18, 05:13 AM
They ignore your comment regarding the stench (they're probably used to it by now).

A dwarf in the second building speaks up, "No way are we headed back into that mine if we don't need to. That baron plays with things he just ought not to. Besides, it's easy enough to find, just head south from that door over yonder" He points to the door just within the corridor you took to get to this building.

Koury

Leinad
2010-04-18, 03:49 PM
Fayne will be happy to know that the door opens very easily. As Fayne takes some steps back out into the night a chill wind howls through the air. Looking down she is able to make out what appears to be a path with several ruts in the ground from use. The path narrows here as the Plateau ends and in the distance she can see where part of the mountain has been carved out for some mining efforts. Also, if she stands still she thinks she can see some sort of movement within the shadows.

Dwarf was 50 ft away -so you moved 5 making it 45 ft he can only move 20 ft. so he stands at 25 ft away from you now.

The others weren't as close as the dwarf (55 ft back) so there 30 and your 5 closes the distance to 20 ft. and 10 ft on either side of the dwarf.

As Fayne travels down this passage the stench of death is nearly overwhelming and it soon becomes obvious why. Bodies of several and various races and types can be found within this room stacked one upon another. Most have been stripped of any clothing and it is clear they've been down here in this dank room for quite a while with the amount of flesh that has already rotted off of them.

Edit: This is also the end of the passage.

Fayne, though she would like to, will not explore the rest of the cave, as she is severly injured.

Leinad
2010-04-25, 03:25 AM
Fayne makes her way back to the fortress looking for a place to rest a while. The state of squalor has left most of the fortress an unwelcoming resting place. As Fayne inspects the courtyard she notices the jungle wolf still chained tightly, but it seems one of the orcs had an unfriendly encounter with the beast. There is a large wheel that controls the length of the chain that the wolf is on. The wolf stares at her longingly. No more orcs or trolls can be found within the fortress and it is now all but deserted aside from the slaves who are still sleeping within the two buildings. The cleanest room it seems is the stock room that was left untouched by the orcs.

Koury

Fayne rests for three days, if possible, in an attempt to recover from her wounds a bit.

Leinad

Rest is peaceful, Fayne is able to recover completely from her wounds. The only thing that ever breaks the silence is the howling and whimpering of the jungle wolf out in the courtyard. Making her way over to the mine she must choose which path to go, northwest, north, or northeast. North has already been explored.

Koury

Afterward, she will exit the mine and leave the fort, heading back to the Ewok village in the trees.
