Google "danbooru bottle meme"(Note: Miscast_Mage will not be held responsible for loss of time, sanity, and/or purity as a result of searching for danbooru or any works located within it). It should be the third image from the first result. Not providing a direct link because the site itself is questionable, and the safe alternative Safebooru doesn't have it even though it's marked safe(why I don't like using safebooru, half the stuff that should be there, isn't).

Both the Bushi-do and the Code of Chivalry are romantic and revisionist ideals that were created retroactively to glorify the past, cover up failings, and putting the creators in a long and honorable, but mostly fictual tradition they can claim to uphold. I guess it's the same for most "army values" as well.

There is really no need for that, and besides it's not like every time someone posts something positive about a druid we have to say that real druids cared nothing for nature and were just theocratic warlords.

What kind of misconvoluted crossover is THAT supposed to be?
I see metal gear, monster hunter (Tri?), and... why is it a hamster?

And I probably used the wrong word to describe it...
Is there a more fitting word than misconvoluted? (Actually, I don't really know what it means )

Don't suppose anybody's come across demotivators with the movie, The Gamers, Dorkness Rising?

Great movie, but I haven't seen any posters for it...

"Bards: Yeah, you're going to die"

"How many of those do you have? 50."

"He was totally a demon!"

"Total Waffle for the Paladin."

Hmm, if only I had some pics to work with.... Darn Netflix and removing TG:DR from instant cue!

Edit: Almost forgot! "It was in the chest."

yeah, but Gelbooru seems too damn disorganised to find anything, not mention the fact that it seems a lot more focused on ahn aahn~ no-no stuff than danbooru(it does have a bara tag which is awesome, though). Also, found this (http://seemslegit.com/post/list/1)(Note: Miscast_Mage will not be held responsible for loss of time, sanity, and/or purity as a result of searching for danbooru this site or any works located within it) while searching for a comparison of the 'boorus. I don't know if it's fully work safe, so viewer beware. Also, I've seen a lot of the posts there posted here before, so... yeah. There's roughly 4,320 posters in there, so the hells am I reposting all that. No, the fact that, as drawn, their is nothing to stop the forward motion, so when that catapult is fired, it will slam it's rock directly into the ground (that's why catapults have a little bar that sticks out).

Actually, there is. The elastic potential in that catapult appears to be coming from bending the beam itself, as opposed to twined rope. Thus, when released, the arm will snap upright to straighten the beam. Once the beam is straight, it will not keep going much further; certainly it will decelerate markedly.

Actually, every time I've seen Monsoir Coyote use one of those, it does infact do something very similar to what Necroticplague expects.

MrRigger
2011-03-20, 01:07 AM
Now, be fair to the Coyote, often times the catapult won't fire at all, at least not until he climbs up on top of the rock and jumps up and down several times. Then it'll either throw him directly into the cliff wall or slam him on the ground.

Is it a version of this (http://mythfolklore.net/aesopica/perry/173.htm)?

A man was chopping wood by a certain river when he dropped his axe and it was carried away by the current. The man then sat down on the riverbank and began to weep.

The god Hermes finally took pity on the man and appeared before him. When Hermes learned the reason for his sorrow, he brought up a golden axe and asked whether that was the man's axe. The man said that it was not his. A second time, Hermes brought up a silver axe, and again asked the man if this was the axe he had lost but the man said that it was not. The third time Hermes brought up the axe that the man had lost and when the man recognized his axe, Hermes rewarded the man's honesty by giving all of the axes to him as a gift.

The man took the axes and went to tell his friends what had happened. One of the men was jealous and wanted to do the same thing, so he took his axe and went to the river. He began chopping some wood and then intentionally let his axe fall into the whirling waters.

As he was weeping, Hermes appeared and asked him what had happened, and the man said that he had lost his axe. When Hermes brought up the golden axe and asked the man if that was the axe he had lost, the greedy man got excited and said that it was the one. Not only did the man fail to receive any gifts from the god, he didn't even retrieve his own axe.

It's also referenced in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- The Golden Sword is located in the Pyramid of Power. There is a spot in the Pyramid that can only be blown up by the Super Bomb. Go to the Bomb Shop, which is where Link's house was in the Light World. After beating the sixth crystal, the Super Bomb will be up for sale. Buy it and walk the bomb over to the Pyramid and blow up the big hole. Go inside and there will be a fountain. It will ask if you would like to throw an item in. When it asks, throw in your Sword, and in return you will receive the Golden Sword from the fairy. This is the strongest sword in the game, but it cannot be obtained until very late in the game.

And since I can't seem to find anything to match it from the game, I went in a different direction.

I'd say Coyote has Barbarian levels, and Rages while trying to chase the Roadrunner. Then he runs out of Rage, gets Fatigued, and can't use the Run action anymore.

Conversely, the Road Runner is clearly only taking a single move action a round to move at that speed, given the velocity he outpaces Coyote when he decides he'd like to, and starts actually running.

Oh, also relevant! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76vYQrT_5Xc)

Do remember though, part of the reason why blade weapons in 40k are effective, is because they are all either:

A. Made out of "Wonder metals" such as Ceramite, Plasteel, Admantium, Wraith Bone, Living Metal, Crystaline, Composite

B. Enhanced through various means (Psyker attuned, or shrouded in disruptive energies, or hydraulics/Biotic muscles

C. Formed using DNA from various creatures (Tyranids)

D. Demonically posed weapon armor... need I say more?

aside from the Tau of course.

Somehow, this makes me think of Russians during the Soviet era. Just switch out SM/Sisters with the US, the Inquisition with the KGB/NKVD, and the aliens with... the KGB/NKVD. 'Course, that was kinda the intention, what with the Commissars and all, but I digress. A lot.

OotS demotivators are allowed (to my knowledge) so long as they do not use any of the Rich's origional artwork. So quoting OotS with fan artwork is allowed (it has been done, I seem to recall a nice piece of Xykon artwork with his 'power' quote) as would quoting OotS on a OotS unrelated pic, (e.g. using any of the quotes about Paladins to accompany a picture of a Paladin from other medi,) but using a pic from the comic, edited pic from the comic, offical forum avatar, book cover, artwork from the boardgame etc. is against forum rules

The Giant has explicitly said before that anyone is free to remake his characters or (I think) scenes and use them, even tracing, as long as they don't then claim the characters as their own. Your work, no matter how similar to his, you can do whatever you want with*. His work, you can not.

*within the boundaries of copyright etc, obviously, as mentioned.
Within boundaries of copyright, I can do the same thing to his OotS comic as being done to EVERY OTHER IP in this thread. Legally, this is a fight he can't win (the letting people post OTHER people's IP here without stopping them doesn't help either); it can only be done through an absurd and backward system of personal enforcement on his own site's forums.

Moreover, how would the mods be able to differentiate a traced picture put on this thread from a simple photoshop cut out?

Let's get back on topic people! More motivators!

The relevant information on the subject is in the playground rules towards the end. Alternatively the relevant bit is here

Copyrighted Material and OotS Images
Using copyrighted artwork as an avatar is technically illegal unless you have the permission of the copyright holder. Even if the art is modified in some way, the original copyright still stands and you can't use it as an avatar. Rich Burlew has specifically requested that people DO NOT use his OOTS art as avatar image, other than those he has specifically provided as the default message board avatars. Also, please do not take, alter, or use the provided avatar images, comic images, or other pieces of Rich's art without express consent. If you want an OOTS-style avatar, there are many burgeoning avatar artists hanging around the Arts and Crafts forum who might make one for you.

Any avatar image that is found to be used without the permission of the copyright holder will be removed. If the creator of an avatar personally approaches the GITP staff and claims that their creation is being used without permission by another poster--as might be the case if they requested credit for the avatar and then were denied such--the Moderators will remove the avatar immediately. The first instance of this will incur a Warning, but should the member reinstate his or her violating avatar or create another avatar that also violates the rules, he or she will be issued an Infraction.

Which doesn't make the absurdity any less. In fact, it only enhances it.His site, his rules. If he doesn't want his stuff used, he's perfectly within his rights to ban it on his website.

Within boundaries of copyright, I can do the same thing to his OotS comic as being done to EVERY OTHER IP in this thread.True, and I admit I do find it a bit silly to disallow the demotivating of his comics (is there a Word of Mod source on this ban?).

Legally, this is a fight he can't win (the letting people post OTHER people's IP here without stopping them doesn't help either); it can only be done through an absurd and backward system of personal enforcement on his own site's forums.Legally, he's completely able to have whatever rules he wants on this site. He could require everyone to have an avatar of a horse's arse, and if you click "Accept Terms" when you make your account you'd better believe you're gonna have an avatar of a horse's arse.

Moreover, how would the mods be able to differentiate a traced picture put on this thread from a simple photoshop cut out?I believe it is recommended that one put some flaws or similar in a trace if it's really that perfect. You'd be doing well to get it that perfect, though.

Legally, he's completely able to have whatever rules he wants on this site.
Technically, no. But that's not what I was referring to, and yes, on the site he can legally make absurd rules counter to Fair Use of copyrighted materials for his own personal stuff and enforce it with his own staff.

I believe it is recommended that one put some flaws or similar in a trace if it's really that perfect. You'd be doing well to get it that perfect, though.
It's stick figures. I could make them free-hand in paint - most of it easily at any rate. In fact, I'd be surprised if he didn't.

Serpentine

I believe he uses Photoshop or Illustrator or something like that.
And if it's so easy to get it absolutely completely and indistinguishably perfect, maybe you should give it a shot. No cheating.
The very, very best avatarists can get something that looks like it could've been drawn by the Giant himself. I haven't seen any of them try to copy exactly an OotS comic, but most other avatarists are a long way from that.

As far as I know it's against the site rules to use Rich's artwork in any way. He has not made a caveat specifically for demotivators, so you should assume this is against the rules.

That's very much why the show is entertaining. Lelouch, no matter how you may feel about his actions, is very much a life-like, fleshed-out character. He can swing the alignment pendulum from end to end in a single episode.

Hotlinking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotlinking). If the server it is hosted on receives a request for the image from some other server, it can block it.

Lots of sites do this because they have to pay for the bandwidth of you downloading the image even if you're not browsing their site.

It is e-courtesy to relocate the image to a location you control (either your own server or photobucket) and link to that.

@Xuc and Yora: Tygre's quote is, with some omissions, pretty much word-for-word from Chapter 135 of Melville's novel (http://www.gutenberg.org/files/2701/2701-h/2701-h.htm), quite near to the end. Given the cobbled-together vagaries of both modern and archaic English, the fact that something looks odd is unfortunately no real indication that it's wrong.

Given the cobbled-together vagaries of both modern and archaic English, the fact that something looks odd is unfortunately no real indication that it's wrong.

The Melville one is right but there are many glaring mistakes in the Exalted ones.

"I have chosen ye": "Ye" is the second person nominative plural. That means it's only used as the subject of a sentence, not the object as it is here. It's not another word for "thee". This is like using "we" instead of "me". (In a completely unrelated use, it's used as a substitute for "the" because early Modern English writers and printers used the letter Y in place of the older "thorn" letter to copy old manuscripts, because printing presses didn't have that letter and Modern English no longer used it.)

"Thine trials have been great": "Thine" and "mine" are used before a word with a vowel like the article "an". "Thy", "my", and "a" are used before a consonant. "I want to eat an apple. This is mine apple. That is thine apple."

"Nothing can stop thee, no obstacle or foe can hinder thee; all that stand before ye are fated for defeat.": As above, "ye" is not an object. "Ye are fated for defeat" is ok but "all that stand before ye" is not. It should be "before you". And "thee" is singular for talking to one person. Why switch to the plural? This reads like the speaker is talking to two people: one whom nothing can stop and one whom no obstacle or foe can hinder, but all who stand before both of them are fated for defeat. I really doubt that was the intended meaning.

You know why we don't use older forms/styles of English any more to speak? Because we don't, so knock it off.

lemme explain.

[/NERD] in modern warfare, or any other first person shooter that is played online, when someone sits in a corner the whole game, not even bothering to play for their team or anything, and just shoots people as the walk by, is called a camper. camping is considered extremely bad form, but for some reason, everyone wants to do it, making games like modern warfare a living hell. i personally don't get it, you shell out $60 for a game just so you can hide in a corner? run around and have FUN for gosh sakes:smallmad: [/NERD]

I've heard that America's Army, an FPS made by the U.S. Army, has an option to start a vote to kick a player for camping - and that if you try to use it, it will actually start a vote to kick you for complaining about camping. The logic being that this particular game is a serious attempt to simulate and prepare players for real life combat (it's intended as a sort of combination recruiting/advertising and training tool, as I understand it), and in real life combat "camping" is a legitimate useful tactic and you don't get the luxury of removing enemies from the field just by complaining they're not fighting fair.

Sounds like a good system. 'Course, in the least realistic games, complaining about camping is part of the fun. Then again, we're getting pretty far off topic. I must repent... But not today...

When I was playing America's Army, if you violated certain rules, such as shooting your teammates instead of the other side, you'd get kicked from the game and "locked" into a cell in Leavenworth.
