It had been a whole half week, and still nothing. Village after village, town after town, and not a single fight to be had. This adventure was becoming quite dull. Today you finally left the main roads onto a small mountain path overgrown with forestry. Some of you were likely glad for the peace and quiet, but those sentiments quickly faded as your collective backs began to ache from dragging overgrowth off the trail so that the mule wouldn't twist a leg in some unseen fissure. Night was descending, and with no town nearby Fillangus Doddlehop thinks it best to set up camp.

"Now, I don't know much of fighting, but I do know my mules are beat. Should it be safe to just pull the carts off over here and throw up a few tents?"

The narrow road winds through the hills with trees pressing in on all sides, and a rather steep decent to the left of the trail with a slight rise to the right.

The tall young man in the fancy armor, who had been sweating the entire time, but had refused to remove the heavy, sweltering armor, despite the peacefulness of the journey thus far, stops moving, and looks around, obviously examining the surroundings.
Seeing nothing amiss, Simon shrugs, his armor clanking as his shoulders move.

"Seems safe enough to me. However, I will check before we move the wagons."

Simon starts walking towards the small rise on the right, clearly looking around for any threats.

TARAKA

The hideous half-orc maiden is a sight to behold. She has putrid olive skin; sharp - but diminutive - fangs; a decided under-bite; large black eyes; greasy, unkempt black hair; and thick, meaty fingers, each of which ends with an elongated nail that has been filed to a point.

The maiden has been belching grunts and stomping her feet all day. She does not adore the heat, nor does she relish working with so many humans. She has to remind herself constantly that these humans are not the evil Knights that slew her kin. Fillangus Doddlehop had repeatedly told Taraka that those men were not Knights but vile Bandits. Taraka was weary of his explanation, it seemed too convenient to be true. However, Fillangus was a nice man who gave her lonesome life purpose, which was far more than she had every dreamed possible.

The half-orc watches with curiosity as the sweaty human leaves the group and heads off towards the hills. She followed this man, for she did not believe him capable of dealing with a bug, let alone Knights or monsters.

"TARAKA THE BUTIFUL," she places an undue amount of emphasis on the last word, "Follo punee man. Stag Smasher kill anythin' his metal armor not save him frum."

Casimir

"Ah yes, the wilderness camp!" Casimir exclaims, his dry tone, giving lie to fact that he was not as enthusiastic as his words proclaimed. He glances around, and sees the surrounding forests pressing in, and the descent to the left, then calls after those that are exploring, "Remember a better place means somewhere with cobbles, an Inn, and beds." He shrugs, and glances at the mule, which in turn looks at him with a surprising amount of pity in the animals eyes, "Oh and some real hay for the mule!"

Grumbling a little under his breath, he vaguely pats the mule, and glances around, to see if there's anything to be seen.

These should be hilariously low!

A small human boy was mumbling barely audible words as he steadily treaded along with the group. After a couple of hours of an uneventful trip, the boy Ryuuhei easily got bored and fell asleep as he walks.
Ehh...Veridia-kun, I can't believe it... ehh, shouldn't you... ehh...huh... HUH? What?!

The sudden change of pace caused Ryuuhei to bump against the person in front of him, his muscle memory instantly reacting to wake him up. It was really a terrible timing, just as he was about to finally reach his dream.

Apparently, his merchant employer already called it a day, and they will be camping by the hill. Not to be outdone by the other folks, he went along and inspected the area despite being so unskilled in such tasks.
Nothing to do here. He was making a check to find out something potentially dangerous. It'll fail most likely, but he'll try anyway.

Assuming the rest of you guard the merchant, and rolling up quick survival for the rest of you that are looking.
Taraka the Beautiful and Simon discover some tracks that look to belong to a stag. If anyone has track you can follow them. In either case clearing underbrush until there's room to take the carts off the road, let alone to clear odd patches in which to erect tents. With another two to three hours you could clear enough of the thick bushes to clear a circle around the site, or just take -3 to spot potential threats. Feel free to set up any details like night watch. Lets split it into three shifts. Pick a shift and roll a spot and listen.

Meanwhile Fillangus Doddlehop takes a bedroll from his cart, and spreads a winter blanket over the top in case it were to rain on his goods. He rolls the bedroll out under the cart, and starts a small fire with some of the brush you already hacked down, in order to start heating some gruel that smells dishearteningly flat. As it cooks he pulls out a small journal, in which he begins to write pausing to think twice as long as he writes. When the gruel is done he offers it around, and if nothing else at least it's hot. He also offers a water-skin as there aren't any creeks nearby.

At dark he'll climb into his bedroll and sleep.

Faelyn comes back disappointed that he didn't find anything. He helps with clearing the space for rest and insists that they clear out a circle so they could see incoming enemies.

He takes 2nd and 3rd shift, thinking that he would rest better when it's still dark.

Simon, sees the tracks, although he has no skill in hunting, and no skill in tracking, leading him to swiftly ignore them as unimportant.

As he has made the decision to protect the caravan, he resolutely starts clearing the brush, trying to enhance the protection. As the others set up their tents, and their beds, and eat the gruel, Simon slowly eats the gruel, and then, once everyone else is alertish, he sets up his bedroll under the stars, having no tent. He also feeds his mule on some of the underbrush.

Once everyone starts climbing into bed, Simon simply takes a seat, his morningstar on his legs before him, watching into the night(1st shift)

Josie wasnt particUlarly helpful in any regard. He appeared to be little more than a boy himself, although something about the way he smiled and caried himself made his actual age uncertain. "I'll watch the cart," he said lazily though he was actually leaning against said cart.

TARAKA

Taraka helps clear the coppice, taking massive handfuls of underbrush at a time. She scoffs at the so-called males who tire while performing such menial labor. The maiden scarfs down her gruel, letting out a raunchy-smelling belch, which is the Orcish way of signifying satisfaction.

Casimir

Casimir potters round the camp a little, helping clear away any of the scrub that he can, when it comes to the watch, he declares, with a becoming hint of self-deprecation, "I need my full nightly rest, to fuel my mighty magic prowress, therefore I believe others would be better suited to keep watch," he appears to think for a moment, then continues, "In addition, I probably wouldn't see something until it hit me anyways." He unrolls his bedroll, trying to locate himself, close enough to the cart that he could take cover easily in case of attack, and settles down for the night.

Santiago curls his lip at the idea of more hard labor, this was definitely not what he had hoped, his only thought, was that strength came from numbers. Perhaps that was why they had not seen anything so far.

Although he wandered if these numbers was what the saying was referring to. There were some truly amazing people in the group.

Sighing he stayed behind to guard the wagon as the others checked the clearing.

Once it looked ok, he helped clear the brush out and set out his own sleeping place waiting to be awoken for watch, to take his turn guarding and patrolling the perimeter.

AC: 16, HP 10 Fort +2, reflex +0 will -1

Robert got stuck on first watch again. The same watch he’s been stuck on since he signed up with this outfit. But at least he was noticed, that was better than most of the time. He seemed always stuck in the back, bringing up the rear of the convoy, dodging around horse droppings and covered in dust.

But such seems to be Robert’s (or “Bob” as everyone seems to call him once they bother to learn his name) lot in life. There just didn’t seem to be anything special about him, he wasn’t particularly, hansom or ugly nor was he particularly short or tall, in fact, he has no distinguishing features what so ever. He was of average size and weight with brown hair and eyes. In other words, completely forgettable, unlike some of the others in the caravan, like Taraka “the beautiful”, while not exactly beautiful, she was at least unforgettable.

When offered the meal, he takes it and the skin of water, takes a sip and washes the dust out of his mouth before taking a longer draw on it. He gives his thanks, but that goes unanswered. So, after eating his meal, which was as bland as he seems to be, he takes up his position on a convenient stump just out of the firelight and pulls a sunrod out of his pack, balancing it on his knee and waits or nightfall.

At times like these, Ryuuhei thought it was a bad choice not bringing his uncle's sickle along. Clearing the bush would be far less complicated with the right tools for the job. Still, with a handful of old folks helping him, Ryuuhei managed to finish the task. He made a mental note to purchase a small cheap sickle once they came upon a town.

As the others were eating, Ryuuhei spent a few minutes practicing his swordsmanship a relatively safe distance away. After that, he sets up his bedroll and blanket, to get a comfortable place to sit and sup.

Actually, he doesn't eat a lot in trips like this, as the trail rations aren't exactly spectacularly tasty in the first place. Nonetheless, he made a few, small bites at his morsel of tough bread, trying to observe and listen to everybody else's conversation and whatnots. It was probably the stark difference between either his age or his culture to theirs, but the stories got boring faster than he could finish his meal, that he fell asleep in no time.

Josie decides to take on the third watch, reasoning that if something was to happen, it probably would before then. That being said, he doesn't prepare a tent like the others, but when the time comes to sleep, he tosses a bag underneath the cart. If cut-throats show up, he won't be where he's expected.

Simon, seeing the bear, thinks about a way to get it to go elsewhere, but, alas fails. As he clanks around the camp, deliberately making enough noise to wake everyone up(failing the move silently), approaching the cart, he hopes that the noise of the armor will be enough to drive the bear away. If not, perhaps the others will be able to help him to get rid of it.

Ryuuhei had been waiting for this very moment, the consummation of his affections for the lady he sought for so long. She leaned closer and whispered something. The sound seemed so distant, yet perfectly accentuated. We've got an intruder...

It's an intrusion alright, he thought to himself. But his world started falling apart, her last words echoing over and over again. He suddenly found himself lying on the blanket, with his armaments by his side. No sooner than that, he saw the commotion caused by the appearance of a large bear.

Hmmm, maybe I should get a crossbow he thought to himself as he allowed his draconic powers flow through him and around his allies, whips of cold energy flowed like the falling snow in the wind and the icy mantle of the silver dragon encompassed all within 30ft of him.

At least he could help out if the bear hit them.

Ryuuhei channels his frustration into the beast that caused the disruption of his sleep. He charged wildly shouting in a high-pitched juvenile voice. "RAAAHHH!" His attack rebounding harmlessly off the bear's thick pelt.

Now that he's retreated to a safe distance, Casimir assesses the situation with his powerful analytical mind, and realises that it's too dangerous to take a shot, with either spell or crossbow at the beast with his allies in the way, so instead he shifts position once more, then casts a protective spell on himself.

Josie will wait till the man in front of him moves so he can line up a shot, but its still a bad position to be in, because he has to make sure to avoid hitting the melee combatant. Still, if he can just make a shot, it's bound to deal some damage. The bold tears into the bear, catching on its fur, redoubling its rage.

Standing ready with sword and shield, Santiago watches as the others try to strike the bear down, to no avail. He wasn't about to go wading in with a bear armor less. And head neither the time or inclination to do so.
He could however, support them from here.

The Orc maiden rouses from her slumber. She looks around and sees a big black bear. She howls into the night as she quickly climbs to her feet and grasps her might Stag Smaser.

Faelyn takes a step towards the enemy and attacks with his fists, missing with the first swing an making contact with hard unyielding muscle with the latter.

As the bear swings awkwardly, apparently distracted by a passing fly, Simon swings back, trying to demonstrate why the bear should find something else to do.

Enraged by all little humans bating on it's hide, the bear begins attacking everyone within reach. Biting at Hanmaru as a heavy claw swings towards Faelin. The second claw swings down at the man that hurt him.

Apologies to all in advance  this is inspired by the set of posts from here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15444022&postcount=18) onwards, I believe this may turn into an idiosyncracy of Casimir's character if I'm not careful !

As Casimir sees the bear fall to the ground, the adrenaline that's been rushing through his system the last minute or two expels itself as he does an aggressive fist pump shouting "YEAH!" as he does so.

Then his gaze drops, those closest to him would notice that his eyes glaze over a little, almost unfocusing, actually unaware of that which is around him, and what he's doing. His hands fall to his sides, and then slowly, slowly he looks up. His hands move up to his neck, and undo the catch there, seconds later his clothes are on the floor, and he stands in the cool night air naked. Then still totally unaware of what else is going on around him, he begins to dance.

First his hips begin to sway, and then his feet move in intricate patterns around each other, creating a sine wave of his body. His arms flick from side to side, helping to balance the increasingly staccato gyrations of his body. Although starting off dancing on the spot, he soon begins to move around the clearing, twirling, and jumping off tree roots, although he is careful to avoid the bears, bleeding carcass. At one point it appears he's about to do the splits, but seems to think better of it. Then with one final twirl, he spreads his arms wide in a position of victorious celebration.

It's only a second to two later that he shakes his head, his eyes regain their focus, and he begins to realise what has happened in the last 30 seconds. His eyes go wide in shock and embarresment, and he quickly runs to his clothes, pulling them back on, and totally avoiding everyone's gaze.

Ryuuhei felt a deep sense of pride to himself. His path to manhood had been shaping up very nicely thus far. Speaking of, seeing his comrade dancing naked threw him a bit off-guard, but he found it funny and entertaining nonetheless.

However, the realization that his peaceful rest was suddenly interrupted dawned on him again, and irked him. Not only that, but he also found it slightly upsetting that, ironically, only their callous companion Santiago even recognized his prowess in battle. After the smoke cleared, everyone is back minding their own business without so much as a pat to the back for a job well done for the one who felled the bear.

Oh, Ryuuhei! Maybe on another day...

He tried to find comfort in gathering firewood for their feast. Bear grilling isn't exactly on Ryuuhei's bucket list, but it sure is something fun that he doesn't get to do quite often.

Throughout breakfast he eagerly hounds the lot of you for details, and after clapping both Simon and Ryuuhei firmly on the back, he proceeds with his morning ritual of pulling out a large (~3-5lb) bag of silver, handing everyone an extra piece of silver to everyone on top of the two he normally passes out.

The rest of the day passes much like the day before. The woods seem to grow thicker around you, and the bustle of the forest slowly dissolves into silence throughout the day. The sun begins to set, and Fillangus Doddlehop begins stubbornly refusing to admit that the village might not be around the next corner. As night dawns he passes out torches, and soon a thick fog falls, readily dimming the glow. As full night takes over he begins excitedly exclaiming "Ah thIs is it, I' know it anywhere. just behind this tree!" or "I recognize that rock, just another bend" "Over this next hill." every five or so minutes, the only sound in the woods that have slowly become quieter and quieter.

Right around the time some of you are considering clubbing the man over the head and finding a nice cozy bush to sleep in, a light appears up ahead. Still a light in the wilderness could mean anything regardless of Fillangus Doddlehop's insistence that they must be there, and of how he had always known it was there. Douglass slowly stands, still somewhat woozy from literally getting the life beat out of him.

"Now, if I could kindly have back my possessions, I would like to head back to town, as there are a bunch of people in the inn cowering behind a bar. I would like to let them know how smart they truly are..." says Douglass, shaking his head..

As an afterthought, he adds mostly to himself, "...and I must let him know to keep teaching the children...politics..."

Bob has been bringing up the rear of the group the entire time. Not completely unware of what has been transpiring, he initially took to keeping an eye out behind them in case of a two pronged attack. when that became unlikely, he went to the front, and simply stayed behind the rest of the group, waiting to see what happened.

While completely out of it while the commotion occurred, Ryuuhei had a strange dream about the cooked bear's severed body coming back to life, pushing the boy off a cliff. What the...bear zombie... stay away! I am not afraid... I'll figghh--aarrgghh!!

Falling down the cold, hard earth awakened Ryuuhei. Despite being groggy from the fall, he managed to observe the unusual scene--Two people, a girl around his age and an adult man, whose bonds are being undone by his companions one after the other. Completely oblivious as to what had transpired, he approached the scene and asks his companions. He was looking at Josie and the nearby stranger in particular, although he'll welcome any response.

Casimir shook his head slowly from side to side. Things had happened fast...too fast, and with his thoughts having been scrambled all day after what he was referring to as the "incident" last night he wasn't in any mood to try and keep up. However now things had settled down a bit, he sat down with the rest, "I am Casimir," he stated, probably in a more understated way than he would have done 24 hours ago.

Upon Simon's comment, Douglass turns and glares.
"Yes, because 'innocent' travelers attack young girls...and threaten to drag half dead men behind a cart..." Before Simon, or anyone else can retort, Douglass hold up is hand.
"No, we've bandied enough words on the subject, what's done is done, and I've grown tired of this... I will not use my weapons on you..."

The only thing you have going for you at this point is that you didn't let us die, but I don't know if that was 'brains' acting alone, or if none of you are as bloodthirsty as you currently seem...besides you very nearly killed me...I think I have a right not to be too fond of you at present..." says Douglass, getting frustrated...

After another half hour of clearing brush you come up on The Prince's Bane Inn&Tavern, which seems strangely silent despite the lights being on. After a moment Fillangus Doddlehop takes his quarterstaff in both hands, and taps the floor. "All clear, All clear, it's safe to come out!" After a moment's pause an old man (uncle Farheld to those of you who know him from earlier). After he cauciously looks around he disappears behind the bar, emerging a minuet latter with a small chain of frightened children, and another man, who positions himself at the bar polishing a glass as if nothing were amiss. Douglass stands.

Defending someone that is acting like a bandit... less so."

Ryuuhei spent the better part of their encounter trying his damnedest not to knock the two buffoons out--self-entitled stranger and his companion Simon. The two had been arguing the whole time long after the issue is supposedly resolved, with one trying to outdo the other in getting the moral high ground. It was times like this when Ryuuhei wonders if his father and uncle Daigo would still call him 'stubborn' and 'juvenile' after listening to these two.

He moved on and concentrated at the task at hand, downing those potatoes like he hadn't eaten for days. Granted, those gruel aren't exactly 'food' as much as mere stuff to fill his growling stomach. As for the bear... let's just say that the past day was quite eventful.

After quickly eating a portion for two to three people in half as much time, he decided to let his digestive system rest while he takes watch outside at the for the mean time, hopefully away from the noise of the kids and the adults.

Going the last portion, he sighs with relief at the sight of a tavern, albeit a quiet one. He waited, as the parting man had said, for the denizens to come forth and was quite happy to receive a stewed potato, especially when it was chased by some flaggons of ale.

Not taking too much, cause he learned the hard way what happened when he did, he went outside to continue watch on the goods, seeing the young man who dispatched the bear he nods in silent respect to the boy and takes up a position leaning against the wall, enjoying the night.
