Bam! Xykon never had it so good. Before anyone asks about the sword, it's there because I needed his hands to do something.

How do we submit fanart? Just email Rich?

Flickerdart, to answer your question in Friendly Banter: Stickfigure clothing is neccessarily simple/simplified. If you want to add extra frills and embroidery and whatnot, I'm pretty sure you can do it without deviating from the Giant's design, really.

Here something I made in Gmod using props from TF2. For those of you who don't know, gmod is a game/tool used for posing ragdolls and creating various machines based off of the Source engine. TF2 is an online class based multiplayer game.

Ungh, getting the TF2 props to work in G-Mod is a pain in the ass, unless they've made it better since last time I tried it...

Anyway, great work. The grenades look a little out of place though...

I decided to learn how to draw. Here's a couple of (not very good) faces I tried to draw in Manga style.

I could use some advice.

http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image004hx1.jpg

http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image005ik9.jpg

grab 'how to draw comics: the marvel way' from your library. or get any other book that teaches proportions and anatomy. a lot of my ability to draw people actually came from sitting in front of the mirror and observing myself, and feeling out the bone structure in my face and hands and stuff.

take an art class. high school and college both have really good classes to take in order to learn to draw. they can be quite fun as well.

and last, the one that drives me crazy the most: don't be a perfectionist. there is always going to be something wrong with it. i stopped drawing for years because i could never get through a piece without getting discouraged. my eye for appraisal had outstripped my talent.

i am just barely getting back into it now.

good luck. aaron out.

Wrong. Always be a perfectionist. Just be a meta-perfectionist, not a perfectionist who can't see beyond the current work. You made something? Do another one that's better. Done? Rinse and repeat.

i suppose what it comes down to is that it is different for everyone. certainly my perfectionistic attitude has helped me acheive some good stuff, but it has also frustrated and pissed me off to no end.

i forgot about the facebook deal. sigh, now i have to actually take the time to post them.

maybe tomorrow.

EDIT: ok, so i tried deviant, and couldn't for the life of me figure it out. so i posted them to a different forum that i use, and will link to that.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/hobbies-recreation/314874-we-want-se-your-original-artwork.html

so until i magically become computer-savvy, or figure something else out, i will update there.

Please could someone make a HALO banner with the following scene? Alia ( tall, with purple eyes, and long dark, braided hair. She wears a suit similar to that of Illyria from Angel, and she has a divine glow surrounding her), is hitting on Eric the salesman (tanned, a bit old, so he has a few lines in his face. Not fat or anything, with black hair styled in a way that makes him look oddly Mafioso in a green tuxedo), while cups of smoothie on purple feet are advancing on a worried-looking fennec fox (see my avatar and spoilered picture if you don't know what they look like. They are about the same size as housecats as well). This was happening in HALO a couple of minutes ago, and Randman, Kaelaroth and I thought it would look funny.

And the colouring on that image is amazing, Echowinds. Although I'm not that keen on the clouds, they look a little blocky, as if you didn't really blend the brush very much. But that's just nit-picking.

First off, I'd like to say that I'm not really an artist. It's something I always wanted to have as a skill, and it's something I enjoy, so I've been keeping a sketch blog. However, I don't really get any traffic, which makes it hard to get feedback. These are the ones I feel the best about, and I thought I'd post them to satisfy my curiosity on how they came out.

Yeah, it somewhat apparent some of the parts are not terribly well blended together. I didn't have the patience to really smooth out those parts though. Much like this other picture I did recently:

After someone mentioned that Mistaken Identity week somehow confused a lot of newbies last year, I decided to make a banner to advertise it to hopefully stop this from happening again, but I don't know anyone who's willing to use it: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh66/TempestFennac/MIWeekbanner.jpg . If you like it, I'm fine with you using it (I won't be here during that week, so putting it in my sig won't help that much). http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh66/TempestFennac/MIWeekbanner.jpg

The first is the Minihob, a miniversion of Hob, that appeared after he got his head blown off.

Am I in this thread somewhere? I'm not sure. ^^; I used to stalk this board all the time.

Well, for anyone who remembers me, I started doing my D&D Doodles again. For those who don't... I basically tend to draw the characters and situations from any D&D games that I'm in, and the better images get scanned in and posted as D&D Doodles (they start out pretty messy and bad, but they get better as you go on). The original doodles and comics start here (http://www.shazzbaa.foskie.com/shazztemplate.php?image=/sketch/DND_SC.jpg), and the newer ones start here... I think (http://shazzbaa.foskie.com/shazztemplate.php?image=/sketch/DND_SC_crazy.jpg)?
My personal favourite of these is still the four-page hydra comic (http://shazzbaa.foskie.com/shazztemplate.php?image=/sketch/DND_SC_hydra1.jpg).

Also, I've started a character in a new campaign over here (http://www.shazzbaa.foskie.com/shazztemplate.php?image=/sketch/DND_JC.jpg), if you'd like to see the adventures of our larger and even more dysfunctional party.

So, last session, in the newer campaign, we ended up trying to navigate a (supposedly) abandoned mansion, trying to find a magical portal that, we'd heard, could be found in this mansion's basement. The mansion was, in fact, not quite abandoned, as it was populated by a ton of animated objects and constructs... none of which were particularly helpful. ¬_¬ And this comic happened. You're actually at a pretty good spot. You've got the basics down, now work on your anatomy. Right now you're drawing what you *know* is there, but that's not actually what you'd see at any given moment. Looking at anatomy -for our purposes, pictures of people in motion- and drawing the shapes of what you actually see will give you some serious improvement in short order.

drew it using adobe illustrator, cuz i need to get to know the program better.

based off of a photo at the bottom of the wiki article about the a-10 thunderbolt:

the original version had all of the line art visible, with a lot more detail, suh as lettering, numbers, etc. i will probably post that one eventually, but i liked this one more for its simplicity and clean lines.

Someone (sorry, can't remember who) complained that Redcloak fanart always looks too human. So I drew him a la Thunt (from Goblins).
I took stuff from Thunt's style, stuff from OOTS and some stuff from my own art... Hope you like it :)

Hello, artists better than me.
About a year ago I drew this picture of a dire bear mauling a ninja. I don't have a scanner, and I just recently managed to take a decent photo of it.
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa252/NinjaChocobo/Action%20Bears/Regular%20Bears/Direbearmaulingninja.png
Then just under two weeks ago I drew this picture, inspired by this post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5034342&postcount=646). Same deal with scanner/camera stuff.
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa252/NinjaChocobo/Action%20Bears/Actionbears-Grizzly.png
Also, I accidentally made him left-handed. Oops.
And here we have a couple of sketches I made in about 5 minutes.

Put in more FPS so it seems more fluid.

Bad termonology there...You should have said 'put in more frames so it seems more fluid'. While putting in more FPS could technically make it more fluid, it's more likely to only make it faster, whereas putting in more frames will actually make it more fluid, may make it slower though.

I'll stop being pedantic now...

It's still kinda jaggy...What you need to do is add another frame between each one making it smoother, but lessen the time that each frame displays for.

What program are you using?

I always get a little panic-y when I post drawings online. However, I've been told that it's also good for me to get outside my comfort zone, so here's a D&D style group I drew for fun a few days ago. I've considered turning them into a comic of sorts to force myself to get more practice, but I don't necessarily see that happening. Sorry that it's hard to see a little, I didn't ink this because it tends to ruin things.

#1 is pretty nice, though you have a little bit of issues with the proportion of the hands and arms. It's roughly 1.25 heads for the lower arms and 1.5 for the upper. Hands are too small, as well: your palms are actually pretty big, and a hand extended is as tall as a face. Another thing, which is more of a nitpick, is that arrows are considerably longer than that, and if they're in that deep, would be coming through his limbs and out the other side.

It was just a little something I made for this girl I know online. There's actually quite a bit of background as to why it makes sense that I should do this precise thing, but I don't feel like sharing. :smalltongue:

As for the actual design...I never really put much thought into that, same as with my writing. I just start drawing what feels right, and then stick with it until it works. For the technical details...Photoshop, about 17 layers (No effects or any of that dodge/burn cheating, mind you) with a Tablet PC. Loaded Watercolour Wet Flat brush with various Opacity/Flow settings (since using airbrushes to blend is too easy). And something like five, seven hours. More or less.

I've got a piece I've been working on for a while. It's far from finished, but I was hoping I could get some feedback on the progress I've made so far. I'm trying to get it as realistic, though possibly a bit stylised, as possible.

Another new version. Does the hair and face and everything look right?
The lips look...off. If the top one is distorted like that, the bottom wouldn't be flat.
Eyes need the addition of eyelid lines. As is, they look far too big. Too wide, as well.
Women generally have narrower, pointier chins.
The thumb on the creature's left arm (our right) is too short, you only have two segments there and it needs three.
The other hand's thumb would still have the lowest of its segments (the bone that attaches it to the wrist) still visible.
On the same hand, it is physically impossible for the pinkie's knuckle to look like that. If anything, it would extrude slightly, not go inward.
Since she's twisted, it would be a good idea to show some tension in the torso, using the pelvis and hips, or, er, snake bits directly below the pelvis.

Yay, constructive criticism!

The lips look...off. If the top one is distorted like that, the bottom wouldn't be flat. It's meant to be an angry, contemptuous sneer. It's almost impossible to find a picture of a good sneer, but I found what I could. I tried to get it as close as I could, but it still doesn't look right to me, either. What shape should the bottom lip be, then?

Eyes need the addition of eyelid lines. As is, they look far too big. Too wide, as well. They are meant to be slightly disproportionately large, but good point. Will add.

Women generally have narrower, pointier chins.I initally wanted her to have a narrow, feminine chin and large cheekbones with the womanly concave... bit under the cheeks, but the way I did that made her look... old, and gaunt. I wanted her to be pretty, but young-looking. I see what you mean, though. I'll try to fix that, while keep her face looking soft.

The thumb on the creature's left arm (our right) is too short, you only have two segments there and it needs three. You're right, will fix.

The other hand's thumb would still have the lowest of its segments (the bone that attaches it to the wrist) still visible.
On the same hand, it is physically impossible for the pinkie's knuckle to look like that. If anything, it would extrude slightly, not go inward.I based that on a photo of my own hand, but I liked the advice I saw a while ago that you should draw what it should look like, not necessarily what it does. I'll see what I can do.

Since she's twisted, it would be a good idea to show some tension in the torso, using the pelvis and hips, or, er, snake bits directly below the pelvis.I've tried to get that across a bit, but how would you show it?

So... overall, is it looking okay?

Flickerdart
2009-01-22, 01:55 PM
Oh, yeah, it's fine. Those are just nitpicks.

You can make it look like there's more tension by putting the pelvis on a bigger angle. Thing is, you have her turning in the same direction as the pelvis is going up in. Generally, it would be the other way around. But that might involve too many changes, so just lower her left (our right) hip a bit and make her back arch more. If there will be any fabric over that, apply liberal folds where necessary to indicate that it's stretched.

Serpentine
2009-01-22, 10:56 PM
She's meant to be twisting at the waist and leaning forward slightly. I'll think about it, but I don't think it goes with what I had in mind. I tried to fix everything else you mentioned (except the lips, still dn't know what to do with that). This better?

Right, my first and probably only ever decent bit of artwork. It was my first time using an on-page light source and I have never been taught light theory so I kinda made it up as I went along.

It's not all too difficult to manage, if you think of it as kind of a reverse-shadowing process forthe highlighted bits. And considering you're using a digital media (I'm assuming) privy to layering it shouldn't be too hard to back in and add the appropriate gradients of light after you've done in the shadows.

Also - something that'll make your pictures seem better when you have a drawn light source is if you make the lights and darks, highlights and shadows more defined and sharp (because shadows and highlights tend to get more defined the closer you bring a light source to them). If those little tid-bits help any...

Either way, for never having been taught you did well ^.^ At the very least consider yourself in working possession of a knowledge of lighting.

This isn't grand, but it took a while simply turning the canvas for each hair. I used only one brush type for it to give the hair a more 'natural' look. If I did it with the basic pen it would have gotten a rougher coat.

And here's a character I've come up with. No, it's not supposed to be a Jack Skellington ripoff.http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii18/luyan/Personal%20Art/JackScareCrow.jpg
It's supposed to be Jack the Giant Killer; emphasis on killer.

I don't claim to be an artist. I'm not so great at shading, nor am I fantastic at drawing in general. I just do it for fun as many other do.

I really like the last one. And the fuzzy creature—that effect is really nifty.

The raindrop is good too, of course.

Anyway, here are two versions of a logo I designed for Graphic Design class.

I suppose this goes here

It's 2.07 a.m here, I should be asleep since long, damn you Giant for making me go "Holy Foop! ...need to DRAW THIS!" at the awesome rendition of Evil V!
Damn you scanner that hates me! Damn you Photobucket to be in maintenance, Tinypic for loading eternally! And dang that V with the long hair, I now my infatuation with the darned elf hits the level of fangirly crush! (male or female or shemale or whatever hir may be >_>).

Wrong thread. :smallconfused:
To elaborate somewhat, there's a thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37646) for OOTS-style only art, which would fit this better.

Looks great for a first avatar. At this scale, it's clear that you may need to clean up some extra nodes - if in Inkscape, just select the node and press delete then clean up the line that's left behind. Otherwise, fine work. Good to see an active pose rather than the usual 'stand and stare at the camera' :smallwink:

Spoilers are done like so: Blah, replacing the 'Blah' with whatever you like.

Ok sorry, wrong thread. I will place it in the post you gave me, it's just that I'm new and when reading "Arts and Crafts Showcase" I said: "Oh, this might be where universal drawings or art might be posted".
Anyway, I keep the commentary I wrote recently.

"Although i do not support Epic V, I must admit you did a good masterpiece there CelebrenIthil. V's face is spooky and the special effects are incredible, just as I like it!
Those kind of drawings are the ones I can make, but it would take me a lot of time to accomplish it. Good job with that drawing! You are really good at it".

Sorry for any inconvenience, it was not my intention to disturb you.

edit: thanks Z-Axis for explaining me how to do the Spoiler thing.

I blame Battle Moon Wars for awaking the pedobear in me.

Pretty good, but the legs are also weird. Not exactly sure how to word what is wrong with it though.

The legs should overlap. The roman soldier would have to twist his torso beyond that of an ordinary human if he were to stand the way Ichneumon drew it.

Furthermore, smaller = further away from viewer. Larger = nearer viewer.

Either the right leg must be bigger or left leg must be smaller.

Proportion's good though.

I have another piece that actually won an award of excellence. However, it was a surrealist piece that expressed some... anti-church views (I'm fairly certain that's the only reason it won the award). So, it's probably not something that I should be posting here (If you're interested, ask me and I can PM an image).

so just stick a link there. i don't think that they are going to mind a link to your own private artwork. it's not obscene or anything, i presume. you've already said what it deals with, so people that don't want to see it don't have to click the link.

A drawing of a female sword user. It was going to be an illustration for my Monster Contest entry but it's a bit late for that. It's also my first attempt at drawing a person in perspective. Be nice. :smalleek:

Linked to it on DA for size (http://bisected8.deviantart.com/art/Swordswoman-Bird-s-Eyeview-130975271)

Here's a drawing of a wolf. It took around 45 minutes to complete. Spoilered for size.

My main inspiration comes from WildSpiritWolf (http://wildspiritwolf.deviantart.com/) on deviantART. Her stuff is awesome and full of win.

Technically no.

Rabbits have two sets of inscisor teeth, one behind the other. Therefore they are often mistaken to be rodents.

Oh, there we go then.

I think this is the right place.

I've got several pictures here.

My paladin character, Jarish Kain. (//thecrimsonsamurai.googlepages.com/pallyarmorcolored.JPG)

Who can also be found, formatted for EnterVoid (http://entervoid.com/), here (http://thecrimsonsamurai.googlepages.com/PaladinSheet.jpg).

My Death Knight character, Valcena (http://thecrimsonsamurai.googlepages.com/Valcena.jpg), who has been a WIP since the beginning of time.

Some random ghost chick. (http://thecrimsonsamurai.googlepages.com/ghostchick.JPG)

And a link to pictures of my co-works I drew, as ninjas (http://thecrimsonsamurai.googlepages.com/extravaninja). For an incentive program.

Edit: Reread the rules.

NinjaMuffin was nice enough to draw a sketch based on the avatar I made myself (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6700514#post6700514) for the Angels and Demons theme week (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120707). I inked and coloured it, the result's below.

About 90% of the credit for the effort that went into it should probably go to NM though;

A random thought that came to me: Do you think there would be any use for a "Harsh criticism"-thread? You'd post stuff you want feedback on,and at the same time give permission for people to say harsh but true things without guilt. Anyone think it might be a good idea?

brownie points if you can name all the weapons and where they come from (front sword is generic...)

Well, there's the buster sword, a lightsaber, frostmourne, a green shell (duh :smallwink:) and mjolnir, i guess. The axe i don't know, and then there's something that's too small to identify. In any case, it looks nice.

Feedback-wise, all i can think of is that the bunch of weapons might work better if you upped the size and turnes them vertical... To get something in the upper right corner, kind of thing. But i don't know...

The little thing is a sonic screwdriver. Still dunno on the axe. Gimli's axe?

Feedback: the mouth looks really off to me. It's too far over and high up and seems angled weirdly. Also the front sword seems to not be on the ground, which is offputting. Looks great otherwise.

I found this lying around in an old folder. If anyone has seen CTRL+ALT+DEL webcomics, that's the style this was made in.

So wrong thread.

Also, super screwed up version of the Scarecrow.
