This might actually be the solution for the dungeon. Break the counter, get back your memories of all the times you've been through before, and suddenly you have a preset map with a list of traps and wrong turns you've encountered. Anyone who doesn't break the counter is still stuck going through the maze on a cherry run, where only blind luck could help them.
