    Village Hidden in Chasms

Tucked between the Countries of Earth and Wind lies a canyon that seems almost cut into the earth itself, stretching ten miles long across the disputed border country of Red Beans known to the local people as Havens Wound Crater. Few know the impoverished and devastated country still holds a Hidden Village, the entirety of which exists within the canyon, known as the Hidden Village in Chasms. The canyon is easily five miles across at its widest point, making travel through the Red Bean County all but impossible without the Village itself.

The Village is built into the rock faces of the canyon and the bottom of the canyon itself along the river. Bridges and roads, marvels of engineering in their size and complexity, bridge the two sides of the city. Large tunnels build into the canyon sides aid more common foot travel from level to level of the city, though most of the residential housing is kept in the largest gap of the canyon itself. Large ladders and hanging vines exist for immediate travel from some levels to the other and play a large role in the training of the local ninja students. Terraces and other structures have also been sculpted into the sides of the canyon faces, allowing for houses and other residential structures to be built. More homes and services are held in the natural cavern formations deep in the canyon itself, more tunnels linking them to the outer walls making the city a patchwork of honeycombed inner chambers and tiered city levels on the canyon walls.

Several rivers produce a number of waterfalls about the village, powering the Village and keeping a fresh water supply for what meager crops are grown in the village itself. The waterfalls also feed the river below which houses small schools of fish at its deepest limits in the center of the village. These schools are tended and maintained as a local trade good, the breeds having been raised much like cattle and pig on the surface regions and thus making them valuable and unique food stuffs. The fish are also highly prized for their scales which glitter and shine in the light like rainbows.

Along with the rivers and waterfalls of the Village, windmills powered by wind on the outer lip of the Canyon power grain mills of the village, giving the Village another sustainable food source of its own. These windmills can be found on the upper reaches of the Village as well, powering large turbines that power the cities vast energy circuits and act as a powerful resource all their own for the small Village.

    Village Ninja and Leadership

Like many Villages, the Chasms Village is led by the most powerful ninja the entire Village has to offer with three advisors from the local population elected each year by the jounin of the village. The Village has kept a strong and powerful line of leaders even through the great wars which have kept their Village off the radar from larger powers and local bandits alike.

The Village Ninja are typically rough and rugged survivors, making do with what little the land above provides while maintaining the defense of the waterways that feed their village. Chasm Ninja are universally required to be agile and spry owing to the strange landscape of their Village. Earth and Water Elements are common but not exclusive to the Village. Outfits of the Village are less strictly enforced by the Village Leaders though hanging objects are frowned upon as are open pockets owing to people often times walking below.

    Local Myths

Local legends exist on how the canyon was born, the Kami’s having struck the lands inhabitants of long ago with a powerful sword that rent the world in twain. Evidence of this massive attack on the land can be seen in the smooth cliff faces that exist in the canyon itself. The canyon is mineral rich on it’s smoothest parts though mining is impossible to any depth due to the rock itself having been fused solid as if by extreme heat and pressure.

Another legend that exists speaks of underwater caverns that the ninja use to store goods and keep as secret training halls for their classes. While many of the residents are uncertain of the veracity of such claims, the ninja make no move to speak of such things in the presence of non-ninja. The rumors are true, though if they ended where so many believe the existence of such would not be withheld so strictly. The Hidden Village of Chasms holds one of the Tailed Beasts inside a powerful brazier that burns constantly underneath the city in a small grotto, keeping the Village safe from attacks from its neighbors the Earth and Wind Countries.

    Relations to other Villages

The Village Hidden in Chasms is a fairly small Village and thus has little sway over the politics of the Ninja World. It’s few ninja that make it out of the country train and visit the major Villages for their chuunin exam’s.

Innovations of the Village Hidden in Chasms

The Village may be small and underpopulated by strong ninja or bloodlines, but what they lack in numbers and power they make up in ingenuity and cleverness. The Village has a large store of minerals and gems mined from the canyons they call home and some of the brightest (or most eccentric minds) in the Ninja World that have allowed them to remain a Village after the many wars their country has gone through.

Hydroelectric and Wind Power: The entire Village operates by the waterfalls and wind power provided by the natural structure of their surroundings. Thick cables run through the tunnels of the Village, running from the rim to the canyon floor, powering the electrical needs of the Village and the lighting of the tunnels themselves. Unlike many Villages, every building in the Village Hidden in Chasms has working electricity.

Automated Drawbridges: The largest and most complex bridges of the Village can lower and raise on their own by a single button press, run by the energy grid of the city. Such actions drain the power stores of the Village and thus are kept to a minimum mostly during war.

Gliders: The Village Hidden in Chasms posses startling technology to glide on the updrafts of wind in the canyon, flying as a local sport and method of fast message delivery.

Notable Locations of the Village Hidden In Chasms

The Santoku Bridge: The largest bridge in the whole of the Ninja World, created and crafted over several generations of the greatest minds of the Village itself. The Bridge extends the width of the canyon at its widest limit and acts as the only means to cross the country from the Earth Country and Wind Country not plagued by treacherous and often time fatal terrain and weather and bandits. It is guarded and run by the Village, though the vast majority of the money it earns goes to the Country itself.

Hoshiin Power Plat: The heart of the Village so to speak, the Hoshiin Power Plant operates all hydroelectric and wind power stations, and provides the city with clean and free energy. The Power Plant itself is merely a router station that maintains the innumerable number of cables that make up the power grid of the city and is tucked deep into the canyon interior through a series of twisting and winding tunnels. The Hoshiin Power Plant is the most guarded area of the Village and holds the personal residences of the Village Elders.

The Mural: The strangest and most beautiful region of the Heavens Wound Crater, The Mural is a two mile long band of mineral deposits that have been warped as if by extreme heat and appear to have melted together to form a truly wondrous though incomprehensible pattern that remains a local attraction.

    The Red Bean(s) Country

The Red Bean Country is a fairly small and mountainous land caught between the vast deserts of the Wind Country and the steppes and sweeping mountains of the Earth Country. Its soil is poor for crop growth, it’s only major industry is the growth of the Azuki bean for which the country is named. A target for many of the lesser Villages over the last sixty years, the Red Bean Country has lost much in the way of its former holdings, clinging to the mountainous and rugged land. The land itself is dominated by the massive Heavens Wound Crater, the outskirts dotted by trade outposts and the farming communities and mountain range of Omashii. The Country makes much of its money on trade and passage across the Santoku Bridge, being the only reliable route between many of its neighbors.

Leaders and Notable Points of the Country of Red Beans

Daimyo: The Daimyo of the Red Bean Country is Hiyashi Matusda, a young and politically naïve boy who assumed the throne at the end of the most recent conflict between the countries military resulted in the assassination of his entire family. While Matsuda is naïve and young to the world’s politics, he burns with a fire to reclaim his families honor and prestige in the world stage and to forge a new future for the country. What remains of the Red Bean military is loyal to their firebrand leader despite his outspoken and often times brash actions, finding his drive a rejuvenating force. A notable and personal figure, Matsuda can be found outside his palace more often than not, an eye patch over his left eye and two wooden swords at his sides. He is famous for his helmet which bears a golden crescent moon proudly at its front. The people of Omashii and the Red Bean Country adore their new Daimyo, even those effected most by the war for his charisma and caring attitude.

Red Bean Military: Outside of the Hidden Village, the Red Beans military consists of mostly peasant forces drafted in times of emergency and all youths not joining the Village are conscripted for a minimum of four years of military service consisting mostly of border patrol and guarding the few holdings the country still controls. Standing military is rare in the Red Beans Country due to the cost of housing and maintaining such a force, though what few remain are proud and powerful warriors and tacticians that have kept the Red Beans Country from completely falling to enemy forces alongside their Village compliments.

Cities of the Red Bean Country

Omashii: The Capital of the Red Beans Country and the seat of power for the small nation, Omashii is the largest city and truly the only such place to deserve the title sitting at the top peak of the local mountain rage named after the city. The Imperial Moon Palace sits at the top of the highest peak, affording it a view of their entire holdings at the current moment.

Fushu Village: The closest settlement near the edge of the Heavens Wound Crater, the village of Fushu is mainly a trade hub known for its fairly lawless districts and it’s simple farm people that make up most of its inhabitants.

    Relations with other Countries

The Red Beans Country have not fared well in recent history, the object of envy and hate by their smaller nations and the desire of larger Countries that surround them for their profitable trade routes and rich metal and mineral deposits. The Red Bean Country acts as an intermediary to the Earth and Wind Countries in current times, acting as the trade route between the two though knows full well it has little chance to block such trade without a full reprisal attack from both nations, an attack they cannot suffer.
