He's still crouching (whatever is this called) in disbelief, then looks at his left side fast and turns to another, then turns again to his left having just noticed there's a metal pole there

"You mean I can't use my skills on Iron?....nnnggg"

He then holds/bites the pole, then seems to bite it hard, then progressively harder until he gets exhausted and drops it breathing heavily. He then completely gets it's NOT iron, he's expressing "This cannot be".
