We manage, in my English class, to have mostly non political debates. But we mostly agree on things, and there isn't much we could argue. And the teacher is pretty good about the "teenagers, be calm" thing. (There is that one kid who wont shuttup, naturally.

Well, I think the teacher noticed that a period of teenage girl-gossip is not effective discussion, and decided that a political argument focused on women issues is better than a struggle to not cross the line into politics.
