    This time, the enemy is alert for attacks, and their careful approach gives them a much better chance at getting away before being hit.

    The shot misses, as the enemy detected the incoming beam in time to get away, but the shot did break the formation up slightly, and they've changed vectors towards where IVan took the shot from.
