When I grew up, the neighborhood was kind of split up. In the tiny minority, families with kids. I knew most of them.

I'm in Northern Virginia now, and the neighborhoods are more transitory bedroom community type. I know more of my neighbors, since more of them have kids who go to school with my daughter. For the others, instead of the scowling, "get-off-my-lawn" types, they're more often people who aren't really around enough to be busybodies.
