Number of Character Appearances VI - Wrecan: "I like counting things"

Why is this distinction made? Seems a bit arbitrary. He's been a vampire every time.

I believe it is made as a way to figure out how to count people like Durkon/Greg, or Gontor/Exarch (+ a few other CotS people), what here is an appearance and the rule is just universal for vampires for simplicity, even if it’s pretty useless for most of them.
