Is it reasonable to suppose that to research a variation of Sending, Julia should know the original? The rules doesn't say anything in this direction - I may have answered my own question - but it seems reasonable to me.
If so, she would have to be at least Wizard 9 (nice advance, miss Greenhilt!), since Sending is 5th level for wizards.
