That was explicitly been retconned into him making up something to be dramatic for the sake of the exhibition match the day that he brought Sarah along to try and get her enrolled or whatever.

Whatever the original plan was for Elliot what with summoning inner demons wasn't tenable for the story and was scrapped or something along those lines.
