You will never learn the name of the priestess, or why she dared stand in your way. Bare seconds after Perseus joins the fray, he stands drenched in her lifeblood above her dismembered corpse.

The spikey - one might almost say barbed - devils rush Perseus, with the exception of the two under Yara's control who stand motionless now their orders cannot be carried out. They lash out at him with raw ferocity and savage claws, individually little threat but mobbing him from all sides. Each seems eager to seize him and impale him on the spikes protruding from its body.

The massive devil shudders at Gunn's attempt to force it out of this plane, but proves once more resilient to magical assault.

"A credible effort, magus," it rumbles in a captivating baritone, "but futile."

Sweeping its gaze over the party, it settles on Theo. With a cruel smile, it sends a bolt of shimmering amethyst energy at the cleric; it washes over him without doing direct harm, but tears into the various enchantments currently affecting him.

The chitinous blue devil vanishes and reappears just outside Rosalind's warding circle, its footing sure in the snow. It snaps its mandibles at her, then looks with its multifaceted eyes to the unconscious psion at her side. No human emotion can easily be imputed to such alien features, but the intensity of its regard is unmistakable.
