Actually, yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

After getting back there, she looks through boxes and everywhere else trying to find string, and tie it into a loop.
And then, try to set up some way that it can go around it without slipping off or having to touch it.

Well, if you throw the lasso just right, it should cinch around the middle, right?

Except, an attempt to just lasso it is likely to fail when the orb moves just a little. It had been placidly hovering there the whole while, but as soon as a loop of string comes near, it jerks away just enough for the string to slip off, before settling back to its old location.
