This would be something that would explain the tracks back at Mycenae
Further out from this immediate area there are some places where tracks seems a mess - imprints of hands and feet but in no kind of pattern or order. They don't seem to lead anywhere - they are just there in a couple of metre radius of walls or fallen pillars
Also:
Atreus then learned of Thyestes' and Aerope's adultery and plotted revenge. He killed Thyestes' sons and cooked them, save their hands and feet. He served Thyestes his own sons and then taunted him with their hands and feet.
So logical this would cause a hand and foot based - whatever the hell this is; or someone created it inspired by this

For spirits - you cannot pin it down as they seem to be all around but only in rat sized spots that are apparently unintelligent but give off a vibe of pain and malevolence
