Bertelis is tossing his shield aside, taking up the double-bit axe of his fallen enemy, and moving to assist Emil; but then his eyes are drawn to the profane escape of the warlock. This mark of victory, a mark of failure by the beastmen, is felt by everyone on the field; and he lets out a whoop of triumph that is drowned out by Wighard's louder, more disturbing exultation. As the beastman lines dissolve into flight, the defenders instinctively move to run them down; and the rest is, as strategists might say, mop up.
