How about this? I left the skin alone since you didn't mention anything. But I could probably texture it a bit.
The lightning is traveling through him, you can see sparks along the shield and through his head as it travels from the ground like he is just spilling energy as he tries to focus on his real spell.
Tried to reflect some glow from the beard across the metal parts but at this resolution it is a little hard.
