Well I'm not them, but I think their logic is, if your alive, you have to meet certain traits to qualify right? which comes with certain weaknesses of being alive. there if you upgrade enough, your beyond being alive, because your are too strong to fit the current definition of alive because your body wouldn't do the same things as living beings. like an undead or a robot. both are still people but they're not really alive in any sense we are, but they are technically better in some ways in that they don't require the same things to stay alive. "no need to eat/drink/breathe" and so on is often listed as a superpower those kinds of beings possess even if they have some other need they have to fulfill instead, and some versions of those things in fiction ignore that entirely. so if your biologically advanced enough to replicate such lack of needs, at what point are you no longer alive in the term as we currently mean it?
