True, but also ranger is just sorta really good, in terms of of out of combat utility and combat options they have rogue, fighter, barbarian (fairly subclass agnostic) and shadow monk all pretty well beat. even without gloomstalker or going very deep into the Tasha's rules.

Personal bias though, while I enjoy the Tasha's changes I think PHB ranger was fine, it just has a lot of unnecessary complexity because a lot of its good features are spells, and therefore moderately hidden and all its apparent features were either weak or read badly.
