But like an arcanist's disjunction, I think that many tables will have a gentleman's agreement to avoid this tactic, lest the game devolve into Xanatos Gambit's of Nuh-uh & Yeah-huh.

But the villains can metagame anyway due to the DM's omniscience. The players can't.
