I tend to go with "standard" fantasy races mostly - human, elf, dwarf.

Apart from that, there's a slight tendency towards melee but nothing too significant.

I generally don't play Evil characters, as usually they're just disruptive to the game.

One good way to break yourself out of habits like that is to randomly determine your alignment and class, and maybe even race (though I usually select from a few semi-appropriate races rather than just using a free-for-all). Then, stick with it. You may enjoy it, you may not, but it will at least break the pattern.

I'll even randomly determine basic personality and backstory elements, and then use those to try and tie together into a coherent character. Doesn't always make a character I *like* personally (in terms of personality), but it tends to make for more interesting roleplay.
