The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Time for another contest, folks!
This one will follow the format first developed by a fine guy known as Black Ice over on the WOTC boards, many moons ago. The goal: create the best prestige class you can that utilizes you screen name in the title and theme. here are the rules:
1.) The name of the class must include your full screen name, excluding numbers and article ("the", "a", etc.) if desired. You may add as many other words to the title as you wish, and you may rearrange the words (but not letters) in your screen name as well. For example, I could create a class called "Giant-Slayers" or "Storm Giant Thunderriders", since both contain the word "Giant", but not a class called "Masters of Naigt".
2.) The abilities of the class should relate in some way to that name, but how is up to you. You may include references to organizations that you create, or use the name as the founder of the class, i.e. "Bob's Cavaliers" or somesuch, but then you should include who this "Bob" is and why he has cavaliers in particular. If your screen name is based on an old PC, feel free to derrive the class from his or her nature.
3.) Prestige classes should be for D&D only, and not specific to Forgotten Realms or Eberron. They may be either Epic or non-epic prestige classes. They may be 5 or 10 levels long. Try to avoid referencing non-core books if possible, but do what you have to do.
4.) Each new class should be started on a new thread here on the Features board, dedicated to just that class and the discussion of it. Put the tag [Screen Name] in front of the title of that thread. Any thread without this tag will not be officially entered.
5.) Post on this thread to let the mods know that you have entered a class. We'll try to keep a post with all the entries listed in one place for easy reference.
6.) The contest begins today, July 13th. All entries may be altered and revised up until the deadline, August 1st. On August 1st, we will lock all entry threads temporarily for the voting period (details of which will be announced at that time).
7.) Categories of voting and judgement will include the following:
• Best Warrior Class (mechanics and flavor)
• Best Spellcaster Class (mechanics and flavor)
• Best Skill-user Class (mechanics and flavor)
• Best Introductory/Flavor Text
• Best Articulation of the Screen Name Theme
• Funniest Class
• Most Likely to be Used in an Actual Campaign
• Website Staff Award (this will not be voted on by the general public, but judged by Amber, the Mods, and I).
8.) All winners will receive a custom title for the month of August and September, so they can gloat. The last two awards, Most Likely to be Used and the Website Staff Award, will have their classes preserved forever on the Function page of the main website, complete with an author credit. (Note that this will require you to resubmit the class as Open Game Content to us, and may be declined if you'd rather not.)
Use this thread for both questions and to alert us to any entries. Let the contest begin!!!

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Actually, please don't start the thread for your class until you have a class to post. I don't want to clutter the forum up with empty threads, and get readers frustrated at clicking on a thread only to find it blank. There's no advantage to having a thread up with no class in it, just wait until you're done writing. Thanks.

My bad.
I already have my background info in the thread, so I will continue using it unless you want me to Remove it.

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
What if we have a name that is completely unsuited for a D&D prestige class? Like, er, mine. Is this a "tough luck" type of situation?
Also, do you plan on doing any more contests that aren't necessarily gimmicky? I'm not insulting this contest, but it would be cool to see some contests that showcase talent that isn't based off of a screenname :P

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
I understand that numbers and articles are excluded, but what about superfluous letters?
I'd like to make an entry and I need to know if I should try to incorporate the letters ZA into the class.Every thread dies, but not every thread really lives.

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Yeah, I guess you could drop those too, but in my mind, bonus points if you managed to use them. ;)

Can I drop the ZA from my name, too?

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Just wondering, would a PrC consisting of Warrior ablilties AND Spellcasting or Spellcasting AND Skill Use or Skill Use AND Warrior skills, or even all three, be entered into multiple categories?

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
I'd be more interested if I could design a PrC based on someone else's SN - say, Zherog's - and have him do one for me. ;D

Sounds like a nice idea for the next contest. ;) Though I'm a bit afraid to find out what you'd do with my screen name! :o

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
I just want to state for the record that when I invented my online handle in 1989 I did not design it for the sole purpose of having the most spiff handle for a prestige class contest.
But destiny, it appears often works in mysterious ways! ;D

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Have to use the full screen name, eh? Guess that means I can't use (or would have to rename) my Kazdaran Warchief PrC (assuming I could find it, anyways.

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
Is it okay if I use Starbuck without the Second part?
I'm working on a class now, possibly next week I should be done.
Only need to work on Level 10 power (which is usually best ability i think since takes so long to get there).
So we need a introduction or it just adds more points?
I mean the descriptive type text like Champion has with the Mini-story in beginning.
Is it required or just helps with points?

Re: The Screen Name Prestige Class Contest!
It might help with the voting, since it is based on flavor and mechanics. It's your call.
And yeah, you can drop the "II" from your name.
---------
Also, to be clear, everyone: You are not "entering" categories. You are writing the class, and then people are voting for you in whatever categories they see fit. So if you have a fighter-wizard class, you might get votes in both Best Spellcaster and Best Warrior. Heck, someone can vote for you in EVERY category!Rich Burlew
