It's of a gentleman soldier, as a sentry he did stand;
He saluted a fair maiden by a waving of his hand,
And then he boldly kissed her, and he passed it off as a joke,
And he drilled her up in a sentry box wrapped up in a soldier's cloak.
And the drums they go a-rap-a-tap-tap,
And the fifes they loudly play,
Saying, "fare thee well, Molly-me-dear,
I must be going away."
All night they tossed and tumbled, 'til daylight did appear.
The soldier rose, put on his clothes; said, "fare thee well, my dear,
For the drums are loudly beating, the fifes they sweetly play;
If it weren't for that, Molly-me-dear, with you I'd gladly stay."
And the drums they go a-rap-a-tap-tap,
And the fifes they loudly play,
Saying, "fare thee well, Molly-me-dear,
I must be going away."
If anyone comes a-courtin' you, you treat him to a glass;
If anyone comes a-courtin' you, you say you're a country lass;
You needn't even tell them that you ever played this joke,
That ever you went in a sentry box, wrapped up in a soldier's cloak!
And the drums they go a-rap-a-tap-tap,
And the fifes they loudly play,
Saying, "fare thee well, Molly-me-dear,
I must be going away."
"Oh, come, me gentleman soldier, now won't you marry me?"
"Oh no, me dearest Molly, such things they can never be,
For married I am already and children I have three--
Two wives are allowed in the army, but one's too many for me."
And the drums they go a-rap-a-tap-tap,
And the fifes they loudly play,
Saying, "fare thee well, Molly-me-dear,
I must be going away."
"Oh, come, me gentleman soldier, why didn't you tell me so?
Me parents will be angry when this they come to know!"
When nine long months had come and gone, the young girl she brought shame--
She had a little militia boy and she couldn't tell his name!
And the drums they go a-rap-a-tap-tap,
And the fifes they loudly play,
Saying, "fare thee well, Molly-me-dear,
I must be going away."

Re: [NPC] The Gentleman Soldier
Hehe, funny with the skills and feats there....
Anyway, so of course my question is: Which came first, the song or the soldier?Fizban's Tweaks and Brew: Google Drive (PDF), Thread
A collection of over 200 pages of individually small bans, tweaks, brews, and rule changes, usable piecemeal or nearly altogether, and even some convenient lists. Everything I've done that I'd call done enough to use in one place (plus a number of things I'm working on that aren't quite done, of course).

Re: [NPC] The Gentleman Soldier
The song is an old song I heard at RenFaire (and have on CD); I just decided to make a little NPC for it. He's actually useable as a little "sidequest"--maybe Molly comes to the local adventurers with her tale of woe and tries to sic them on him?
Edit: as for feats, I was originally going to give him "Deft Fingers"... :P

Re: [NPC] The Gentleman Soldier
I was going to say that the stats are useful for when Molly's father hires the adventurers to drub him.
