    A spell for wizards that want to remain an animal for longer than Polymorph allows, but with more limits and more risk. This is a bit how shapechanging works in the Earthsea novels:

    Wild Morph
    Level: Sor/Wiz 4
    Components: V, S, M
    Casting Time: 1 standard action
    Range: Personal
    Target: Self
    Duration: Permanent
    Saving Throw: None
    Spell Resistance: No

    This spell allows the magician to transform themselves into a small or tiny animal of no more than 1HD and remain in that form until they wish to revert. Turning back is an effortless free action. It functions similarly to polymorph regarding which aspects of their mind and body are altered. However the transformation is dangerous if maintained too long. After a number of hours equal to 1/4th their caster level, for each hour they remain in the animal form they must make a DC10 Will Save. If this save fails, they loses their ability to understand language, as well as all other memories of their previous form, and their mental stats are reduced to the average of that species. In this case the animal will not revert to its true shape unless saved by magic.

    Greater Wild Morph
    Level: Sor/Wiz 5
    Components: V, S, M
    Casting Time: 1 standard action
    Range: Personal
    Target: Self
    Duration: Permanent
    Saving Throw: None
    Spell Resistance: No

    As Wild Morph, except the caster may also transform into a medium animal of up to 2HD.


    Supreme Wild Morph
    Level: Sor/Wiz 7
    Components: V, S, M
    Casting Time: 1 standard action
    Range: Personal
    Target: Self
    Duration: Permanent
    Saving Throw: None
    Spell Resistance: No

    As Greater Wild Morph, except the caster may also transform into a large animal of up to 5HD.

    Unlimited Wild Morph
    Level: Sor/Wiz 9
    Components: V, S, M
    Casting Time: 1 standard action
    Range: Personal
    Target: Self
    Duration: Permanent
    Saving Throw: None
    Spell Resistance: No

    As Supreme Wild Morph, except the caster may remain an animal for as long as they wish with no risk of losing their mind. The caster is also able to assume the shape of huge animals of up to 10HD, and may become a celestial or fiendish version of an animal. They are also able to speak languages in any animal form.

    If they're dismissable, why not make the duration Permanent (D) ?

    Edit: Might also want to specify WHICH magic saves them.
