    Default Role Playing Podcasts

Just curious, does anyone know any podcasts that talks about any roleplaying games, besides the main wizards podcasts of course. It could be about their campaign, or maybe just a talk abt the RP scene.

Penny Arcade does one for their 4e campaign, and I've heard good things about it (although I've never listened to it myself).

    Ingredients

    2oz Djinn
    5oz Water
    1 Lime Wedge

    Instructions

Pour Djinn and tonic water into a glass filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with lime wedge. Serve.

There's Dungeons & Doritos, at Nerdy Show. Includes Brian Clevinger, of 8-bit theather fame. More on the comedy side.

The one that the Penny-Arcade guys and the PvP guy (and later Wil Wheaton) did are part of the "official" WotC ones, and they are fantastic. (I think they just finished recording the 4th adventure, so that should be up eventually).

If you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend it. It's what made me understand why people like the Penny-Arcade guys. And what made me go "Hey, Wil Wheaton is awesome!"

Brilliant Gameologists. Perhaps the best gaming podcast out there.

Fear the Boot. The big boy. Good roleplaying podcast. Not a gaming podcast.

Roleplaying Public Radio. Lax release schedule, solid content.

    The Great Debate. Epic.

The Podgecast. RPGs, mostly, and nerdery in general.

Bear Swarm. Gamer's Haven. 3.5 Private Sanctuary.

If you want more, there are the Pulp Gamer and Spooky Outhouse networks.

Too lazy to post links, but my RSS reader has these in it, currently:

    3.5 Private Sanctuary
    NerdBound
    Kore RPG
    Icosahedrophilia
    Return to Northmoor
    Roleplaying Public Radio
    Save or Die

Now that I think about it, a few of these haven't updated in quite a while...

It's a gaming podcast. They just game with heavy RP. It's still gaming, even if it's different from the way some would prefer.

Case in point: They have a very large selection of episodes that specifically concern GM design and management tips. It's an excellent source of gaming advice, but they aren't tied down to any specific set of game mechanics.

    Good stuff. Funny people.

Project management is project management, not gaming.

Other than Battletech, they do not treat games as games. They treat them as decision engines for stories and treat actually playing the game as such with condescension (and oftentimes ignorance). While there's nothing wrong with that, to call it a gaming podcast would be fundamentally inaccurate. It's a roleplaying podcast.

Lol. You're splitting hairs. Roleplaying is an aspect of roleplaying games. The "project management" you speak of specifically concerns ways of dealing with player/gm conflicts in a roleplaying game in all cases. They even published their own gameworld. They even describe their show as "A show about tabletop games and a little bit more". They have a gaming section in their forum. They specifically advertise to gamers. They tell gaming stories. They've done episodes about gaming rules (like how to handle social mechanics in a game).

Eh, everyone (including Wheaton himself) admits that the character of Wesley was one of the stupidest things ever created, and he openly mocks the character. Plus, give the guy a break for an acting choice he made when he was 12 years old. (remember how dumb you were when you were 12? Exactly.)

There is a difference between a subtle, important distinction and the splitting of hairs. There's also a difference between what one advertises oneself as and what one is. That they throw the word 'gaming' around a great deal does not change the fact that they often border on disdain for playing the game and treat the games themselves as decision engines for roleplaying rather than games. (Except for Battletech.)

Return to Northmoor can be found at http://northmoorpodcast.com , thanks for mentioning us! We have new episodes in the can, coming in the next month or so. :)

I highly recommend the http://rpgpodcasts.com directory, you can search and sort and slice and dice to find the right RPG podcast for you. :)
