How much would cost?
Hi everyone. Im trying to figure out the cost for a pair of boots that boost your speed; but im not sure how to do so (the bonus is not measured in the item creation rules tables)
So, how much would cost to do a pair of boots that add
+5 foot?
+10 foot?
+15 foot?
+20 foot?Three words that will save your ass from a lot of situations:
"Will", "Fortitude" and "Reflexes"

Re: How much would cost?
Well if you consider each step a +1 enchantment then charge +1 for 5 feet, +2 for 10 feet, etc.

Re: How much would cost?
There's a feat, Dash, which gives a +5 ft. speed increase. An item which gives you a feat should cost 10'000 GP, so that's a starting point. Sounds a little expensive, though.

Re: How much would cost?
Boots of Striding and Springing give +10 speed. Reverse-engineering their price gives a cost of 2000 gp for just the speed boost without the +5 to jump checks.
Prices are generally quadratic in D&D, so following that example prices should be:
+5: 500
+10: 2000
+15: 4500
+20: 8000
+25: 12500
+30: 18000
Note, btw, that this is for an enhancement bonus to speed, which will often not stack with existing speed increases.Last edited by Douglas; 2010-03-02 at 11:37 AM.

Re: How much would cost?
5 ft to move speed isn't really that much, though.

Re: How much would cost?
I concur that 500 is a nice little minor item. It is going to help out with making charge distances... if you are in light armor. But low level chargers are unlikely to be wearing light armor. Might help halfling rogues get into position a bit better... but all in all, I think more very low level slotted items probably make the game more interesting.

Re: How much would cost?
Boots of striding and springing: 5500 gp
Minus springing (5x5x100 = 2500 gp)
Equals boots of striding: 3,000 gp for +10 foot.
Usually cost is proportional to bonus squared, making the boots you want 750 gp, 3000 gp, 6750 gp, and 12000 gp respectively. However, I would be careful about going higher than 10 feet and especially not higher than 30 feet since sources of speed boosts seem to be intentionally limited.
Better yet just grab a pair of boots of striding and springing and call it a day. Boots of speed are nice too, for other reasons.Last edited by ericgrau; 2010-03-02 at 10:20 PM.
