Default Richard B. Riddick Build <3.5>

My dread necro died last friday :(. We fought a kraken and I attempted a "Jack Sparrow" and died in its stomach. As a result, I had to build a new character. So last night, pondering what I was gonna build, I happened to be watching Pitch Black and found myself muttering, "Riddick in D&D?"

So here's what I've Got thus far:

Race: Dark Human (Dark is from Tome of Magic. This gives him "shiny eyes")
Class: Sneaky Thug Fighter X/PrC Y (Riddick is WAY too strong to be a rogue/ninja/Swordsage with Assassin's Stance.)

All I need is a refinement on my Riddick build so it plays/acts/ect like him in the movies (yes, I'm also including the Animovie Dark Fury and the games Escape from Buthcer Bay and Dark Athena. (Sidenote, I own all of the movies and the games and have beaten both games to 100% on the highest difficulty ;p

A Swordsage is going to beat a sneaky thug fighter hands down.
That said, Riddick's forms of attack seem to be unarmed combat (I believe he uses Muay Thai in the movies) and knifes/ulaks. Therefore, I would suggest Warblade/Bloodclaw Master with Superior Unarmed Strike.

Well, I HATE Swordsage. Plus, the Sneaky Thug has a Full BAB and a Higrer HD.

And he does know some unarmed combat, but his knife/uklak combat is his shining gold...

A shame then, but as long as that hatred does not extend to Warblades, I stand by my earlier suggestion.

Hence the Bloodclaw Master. Kukris can be used to represent the Ulaks in D&D, and there's no better class for dual-wielding kukris.

If your DM is open to homebrew ask if you can get darkvision and shiny eyes in return for light blindness (you would then wear sun dark gogles). Although if you do not mind the LA then dark is a good template.

I was told by the DM I can use a 3.0 suppliment book Assassin's Handbook for feats (ie: i'm not allowed to use the Assassin BC)

And I like the idea of dipping into warblade for Tiger claw maneuvers, but not so much on the whole Bloodclaw Master. Riddick never becomes tiger-like...

and thats how Darkvision works in our campaign. from the Drow Swashbuckler/Dread Pirate to the Wizard who occasionally casts a spell that lets him gain darkvision to the Human Favored Soul of the Raven Queen who does the same. The only character in the party who screws everything up is the Human Samurai who is blind (literally, a Zatoichi character who uses Blindsense to see)

one last note: My DM made damage for uklaks. They have the damage of shortswords with the crit range of scimitars and are considered monk weapons. Plus, he said if a monk ever used them, they get to add their unarmed strike damage to the uklaks' base damage

k, so you want Stealth, High Unarmed Damage, Human, Glowing Eyes, Two Weapon Combat

A Monk//Fighter Gesalt sounds the most like that if you're not going Warblade/Bloodclaw Master or Swordsage

There's probably some PrC's that fit the build better than most base classes. I wish I knew more about stealth PrCs.

Just out of curiosity, why do you hate swordsages so much?

You do know that the skill point thing was an error and they fixed in errata, right?

kinda, tho if this WAS a gestalt campaign, I'd do Sneaky Thug//Monk to gain the bonuses of SA

Riddick never became Tiger-like, but that's fluff and fluff is infinitely mutable. Trance is easy enough to fluff as combat focus of a sort. Or you can just opt not to use it; the 4 first levels of the class have a bunch of abilities that don't necessarily need to be fluffed as Tiger-skills. What you do want from the class is:
    - Claws of the Beast!!
    - Superior Two-Weapon Fighting
    - Low-Light Vision (you know it belong; of course he sees further in starlight/moonlight than humans)

So, what I suggest is (Ranger 2 or Monk 2/)Warblade X/Bloodclaw Master 4. Do note that Bloodclaw Master gains Hide & Move Silently in class. And Ranger/Monk could buy you some useful skills and a bonus feat to help you with TWF nonsense. Martial Rogue 2 could also work for the first two levels, but I'd wager Ranger is most "Riddick".

And you should definitely pick up Improved and Superior Unarmed Strike. Might actually want to pick up Snap Kick and Flurry so you can make few Unarmed Strikes in lieu of your weapon attacks.

Btw, Shifting sorta kinda qualifies you for Warshaper which gets you more Riddick-level Str, Con, healing and so on in 4 levels; something to think about. Again, you never need to use it (and fluff it as combat trance or whatever), but the qualification could be convenient.

Actually Vin Diesel's favorite character was a sorcerer, if I remember right (should probably wiki it but I am lazy)

Bloodclaw master would give you Full Str on dualwielding attacks, and Riddick is kinda strong

actually his stats are probably far above average in every category come to think of it (even the mental ones)

Pitch Black was made of pure awesome.
Chronicles of Riddick was made of recyled toilet paper.

Maybe you should take the Darkstalker feat (I think it is in the book lords of madness). Riddick figured out a "blind spot" in the echolocation of the beasts and used it to hide from one of them, so I think it would fit quite well and the feat itself isn't bad for someone with the dark template

You know, if you don't have some spellcasting options, Vin will cry.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlUsi...eature=related. God this guy's a nerd.

I guess the trick with Riddick is to somehow decide his signature abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Trying to stay objective,

    - Stealth and hunting abilities,
    - Specialist in 'poor' fighting, unarmed and unarmored, ideal for combat in jail,
    - Not necessarily uber damage (come on, he takes like fifty hits to drop a single armored fighter),
    - Great duelist, seems to slow down when dealing with multiple foes.

I like your racial abilities, let's keep those. I want to go Barbarian with the Unearthed Arcana variant, Whirling Frenzy (raging makes him stronger, faster, and gives an extra attack/round), and Urban Ranger (for Knowledge [Local], Gather Information, Urban Tracking). Grab one level of Human Paragon to give yourself Bluff as a class skill (early as you can), pick up some Fighter levels for a few feats (Improved Unarmed, Spin Kick), and then hop, eventually, into Invisible Blade (CW).

The final build can hide, track, feint like a god, murder the heck out of people with knives, ends up with a halfway decent unarmored AC, and looks awesome when he fights, unleashing a hellish flurry of bladed attacks. Probably a ton of better builds, but Riddick does specific things very well. He's great in a low-magic, low-wealth setting (like a prison or a city), but I don't really think he's a go-to tank for a dungeon.

I made a build for a "Riddick" like character awhile ago for an epic campaign.
Dark Human Ranger 6/ Swordsage 4/ Dread Commando 5/ Bloodclaw Master 5 using the spell-less Ranger variant from Complete Champion. For feats he had Unarmed Strike, Superior Unarmed Strike, Darkstalker, the TWF chain, Dodge Mobility, Spring Attack, Improved Natural Attack, and some others. For flaws he had Light Sensitivity and Loner. Weapon Focus: Tiger Claw from Swordsage with a mix of Shadow Hand and Tiger Claw maneuvers and stances worked very nicely with the build.

Are you planning on designing the Furyan race to go with your build?
Some aspects of his abilities (his feats not his ability scores) could be modeled with said race.

Economy of Movement would be somewhere in there.

You can try to get the Ninja of the Crescent Moon PRC from the 3.0 Book Sword and Fist past your DM.

Its basicaly a mix between Figther, Rogue and Monk (Full BAB, all good saves, 5d6 sneak attack on 10 levels). It also gives the ability to move at full speed while sneaking and as capstone the ability that you are treated as if you are always taking 10 on hide and move silently unless you want to be seen. Blindsight 60ft, 1/lvl Invisibility and Poison use don't hurt either...
