Yup. Currrently playing in a 4th ED game where I'm playing a goth vampire Physical Adept on a team with a Troll street-Samurai, an elven decker/cat-burglar and a orc vodoo shaman

I used to play 3rd edition. Had some fun with a few games but in the area I live it's hard to find players.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
Currently running an elf gunslinger (22 dice pool on my heavy pistol!), with a hacker/rigger, elf grifter, classy cat-burglar (who happens to be a kung-fu expert and mute), an elf murderballer/face beater, a Deadpool clone, and someone playing what effectively is Richard from LFG (problem is that it's her first time with the system and she's trying to run a competent mage).
Once you go blue, nothing else will do. Once you go Quarian...someone will die.

I love the game, but as stated before it's hard the find players. Mostly played 3e and 4e, and I'll play anything that suits my fancy to a useful level.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I <3 Shadowrun. I started with 4th, though I had an interest in it back in 3rd but never could get the books. I have a particular fondness for 4th, but play 3rd every so often.
I'm not currently playing anything, but I've been trying to get a Mage character of mine going in a game. It's just not happening at the moment, though. Now if you don't mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the laws of physics to shut up and sit down.
I cast irresistable phantasmal killer as a 4th level spell. No save, just die.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I still play 4th I have two current characters. The first is a clone of Abraham Lincoln who wants to reunite the north and south United States and end the tyranny of the mega corps. He is a face adept and is pretty much unbeatable (25 to his dice pool for controlling people with his voice) if he wins initiative.
The other thing I like is martial arts. I'm trying to make a Batman character who is not magic and uses no cyber parts or machines to be awesome.Last edited by Rowan Intheback; 2010-06-15 at 01:02 PM.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I have only played a mutated version of the game (seriously - the GM mixed Storyteller WoD and Shadowrun), but I am interested in playing my first real game. I am working on my character concept still - a gun bunny (14-year-old schoolgirl) named Dee Dee Bambi with a huge assault rifle she nicknamed "Thumper".
1. Have fun. It's only a game.
2. The GM has the final say. Everyone else is just a guest.
3. The game is for the players. A proper host entertains one's guests.
4. Everyone is allowed an opinion. Some games are not as cool as they seem.

Currently, I'm playing a Troll Adept Archer. He started out being based on Green Arrow, has morphed more into the Duke boys.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
We just started our first Shadowrun game a few weeks ago (4th ed). It's been fun, but very different from our normal d&d 4E game). Our party includes:
An elf adept - a super-model assassin who focuses on talking to people pretty, and melee combat. He uses his magic to boost the various stats he needs. His description of himself: An effective Derick Zoolander
A Human gunslinger/driver "Phil" - me - A former Aratech employee who left the company after he found out something he wasn't supposed to. (Yes, I have a criminal SIN). Is a fantastic driver, and very, very good with a machine pistol
A Human rigger - Phil's sister. Slightly autistic, but a super-genious when it comes to machines. Lots of drones
A Troll Adept Archer (Mark Hall's character)- Large Troll, Large bow. It works suprisingly well. Sometimes pretends he's a hobo.
An elf mage - He was only there for one session, but in that session we learned about how effective a lightning bolt is on a moving vehicle. He's also a pretty good medicLast edited by Hzurr; 2010-06-15 at 01:36 PM.

I'm playing an Orc mage who used to be a university professor before he went through a midlife crisis. I was originally going to go for a Troll mage but ran out of points.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I just made up a 3ed Troll Adept, that likes to punch some folks in the face and has some decent pistol and shotgun skills. Played mostly 2ed & 3ed. Couldn't get into 4ed, the number of dice needed for 4ed is crazy. I do like how they went to wireless, but even that doesn't quite make sense with the increase in technology on what a person can do to another with their wireless hacking.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I'm playing a human mage following the Egyptian tradition. In a completely awe inspiring strike of creativity my character is from Egypt and ended up in Seattle looking for a better life away from persecution and poverty. I bought a car with my starting money and forgot to put points in Pilot Ground Craft.
That's less than what the adept gunslinger in my group has AFTER he nerfed his character. No cyber-/bioware or even a laser sight.
Compulsive power gaming disorder. Don't get me started on when his brother's character, an elven adept martial artist, curb stomped a vampire mage for 20 damage.Last edited by Poil; 2010-06-15 at 02:21 PM.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I have played SR 4e quite a bit. My characters were:
Ravvy, the autistic demolitions expert and street sam. There wasn't much left of him other than an enthusiasm for explosions and martial arts. No one believed he had multiple masters degrees. He's still floating comatose somewhere in the Pacific ocean after being shot in the back of the skull in a double-cross.
A la Carte, dwarven combat pilot. Trained by the dwarven air force (on a crop duster with a .30 rifle) he could crash nearly any aerial vehicle and, under the right circumstances, keep them in the sky briefly. Retired rich after a successful compaign.
Eoin Rua, more commonly called Owen, former Tir special forces agent. A combat specialist with a talent for bluffing and the capacity to act as party face when needed. Also, the ability to solve most situations with sexual intercourse regardless of the gender or metatype of the mark (he used to work in the elven porn scene). His hubris was a tendency to become bent on revenge over very minor slights, e.g. a store being closed when he wanted to go shopping. He would hold the grudges a very long time. Retired after a successful campaign.I just published my first novella, Lúnasa Days, a modern fantasy with a subtle, uncertain magic.
You can grab it on Kindle or paperback.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I’m in an ongoing 2nd ed game we’ve been running off and on for about 10 years now, team called the Tommies. Mine is a generic Street Sam called Tommie Gun, pretty much a vanilla human cyber with all of his money dumped into betaware, bioware, and a massively customized Colt “Thompson-2” 420eb. The rest of the team includes a Decker/rocker/security rigger called TomTom, an Eagle Shaman called Tommie Hawk, and aTom a dwarven physical adept/heavy weapons expert. There’s been a couple other Toms over the years including the venerable Tom-Whollop (Troll PyshAdept with a club), but those are the surviving members.
My rolling character is Jack O Spades, a human sorcery adept with a smattering of cyber run as a detective archetype. He’s got minimal combat cyber so he’s not a complete waste when things get nasty, but most of his cyber and magic are pure utility. He fits remarkably well in most groups I join since most teams have combat specialists and infiltrators but are light on someone who can solve problems without gun play.
The most fun character I ever played was a Rat shaman called Mengele in a street gang campaign. Most of the characters were into some bad stuff (BTL sales, protection racket, etc) but Mengele was an organ harvester. Started out recycling recovered cyber, than the GM made the mistake of joking that I was wasting all that meat. There’s something particularly disturbing about having the team’s combat medic stabilizing enemy wounded, only to butcher them later for parts. I think he probably crossed the line later when he started selling Halloweeners to a couple of ghouls and a wendigo. His story came to a justifiably gruesome end with a dispute with DocWagon, involving LoneStar, a DocWagon HTR Team, a disgruntled Wendigo client, a rival team of runners and a free ally spirit of a mage sold for his organs. It was a spectacularly awesome cluster f**** known to this day as “the Night of a 1000 Dice”

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
We just started our Shadowrun campaign again after a short hiatus for Super Robot Wars.
I play a hacker who's pretty good at what she does. We have a B+E extper who melees, another B+E expert who does demolitions. Also a sniper. An ineptly played adept ineptly played Rigger. ANd our manipulation mage, who has the best spell ever. What spell is that? Orgy.
Yes. Orgy.
Nothing perks up your day like a Spontaneous Pirate Orgy."And if you don't, the consequences will be dire!"
"What? They'll have three extra hit dice and a rend attack?"
Factotum Variants!

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I just finished running a 4th edition campaign, where the players were an ork stealthy mofo, a human hacker ("ICman"), an elven face/gunslinger (former Mossad), an ork martial artist ("Little Lou", 220cm tall), and a human sociopathic street samurai.
We'll be starting up Ghost Cartels in the fall - I'm looking forward to it.
If any of you SR players aren't on the Dumpshock forums already, I'd recommend it. GitP is great but this board is really only about one game. (Well, two.)Love the Third Amendment?

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I'm in a 4th game that's been going for more than a year. My old character was a human face with a little cyberware and a crazy dice pool with the Influence skill group (20). Unfortunately, he got gakked doing an infiltration bit, and I voluntarily did not spend edge (he had a bit of extra) to make sure I survived.
He was replaced with my troll adept. Truck is good with just about any firearm or heavy weapon there is, a good wheel man and pretty tough. We had lost a player in our group and needed a combat monster, so I made one and tried to flesh him out beyond just combat a bit. He has all four initiative passes and an AA16 shotgun, which means that he'll unload a fair amount of property damage before a fight ends.

I played it; ended up being an Irish elven prostitute/assassin. Worked with a particularly foul-mouthed hacker, and a crazy guy who I'm not really sure what he was supposed to be, besides quiet and creepy.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I've played so many characters, I've lost count lol.
My favorites were an elven mage, a young teen hacker, and possibly the strangest - a rigger, paralysed from the waist down. Called himself a Drone And Vehicle Remote Operation Specialist... guess what his callsign was?

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
Gonna start up a Ghost Cartels campaign when our current Fantasy campaign wraps up in a month or so.
Right now, I'm only playing on conventions, most recent characters are an ex-military ork frontliner and an elven pornomancer (sick how many dice I get to roll for that one even without getting deep into CharOp...)

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
I've played 2nd and 3rd edition, focusing on anything magical (adept, shaman, mage, weird stuff like wu jen or voodoo...), and sometimes straightforward firepower (street samurai, heavy weaponry rigger etc.). The only thing that never appealed to me is the Matrix.
The character I played longest is a human mage, now a 6th grade initiate, a seemingly respectable and pretty square university professor who gets his kicks from dabbling with illegality and tries to maintain a clean moral facade. He's awesomely good at pretty much anything magical and has a lot of connections.
SR is one of my all-times favorite games : great universe, great roleplaying possibilities, huge opportunities, lots of fun, lots of places to visit... Needless to say, I found the 4th edition to be irremediably appalling.

Re: Shadowrun: who else plays it and what do you play
Currently I'm in a group that plays 3rd edition. I'm playing a Cat Shaman with over 130 Karma, in a group that includes a few veterans and a few novices. It's a good bit of fun.
