so what is everyone's favorite use of prestidigitation? gnomes get it free once a day, and i love gnomes, so i figure i would like to know some of the favorite uses of it.

If we're allowing real-world prestidigitation here:

1: Take three pieces of cheese.
2: Put my dog's arthritis pill into one.
3: Show him the "empty" two, feed him one, let him sniff the other.
4: ...
5: Profit!
6: Give him the actual "empty" piece of cheese between his taking the pill-stuffed one and tasting it, so he swallows before he notices he's been tricked.

Enjoy good great toilet hygiene in a medieval world with no plumbing. This alone makes Prestidigitation 10x better than any other spell as far as improving your character's quality of life.

I've heard of a whole bunch of elves (or something like that) getting annoyed at someone in the middle of a very anti-drow elven city. They got annoyed at one of their members, so they each prestidigitated them: one made her hair white, another made her skin black, a third made her eyes red... and then they set the city on them.

Later they stole a bridge.

I don't think it would stop you drowning; it cannot duplicate the effects of any other spell.

Now I think about it, it won't stop poison air for the same reason.

I was on the receiving end of that use in a Dragons campaign I was in. My insanely good diplomancer promptly flew to the High Council and used crazy bluff checks to convince them that he was a survivor of a previously unknown tribe of Rose Dragons that had run afoul of the Tarrasque (horribly buffed in this setting). Cue massive search and rescue effort to try and find any other survivors of the tribe.

You mean the make-up? The spell only did the make-up, an effect fully within its description. If the raging folk with the torches and pitchforks are that gullible, that's their problem.

It could have been an issue because it was technically replicating the effects of Disguise Self, but I think the fact that it was a series of Prestidigitations rather than just one made it more or less by the book.

But yeah, avoiding drowning, I don't think that'd do it. There's a pretty substantial difference between "make a damp cloth dry" and "create a bubble of air".
