Earlier in this thread I stated I had a hard time swallowing Paladins of Kago where good aligned even if they believed that they worked for the betterment of their people and that they cared for their friends and family and what not it wouldn´t "make up" for their persecution and borderline genocidal behaviour towards the Plaavans.
Now if they could function with "just" divine backing in this setting, I would get it but I interpreted your responses as to mean that a good alignment is very much mandatory for paladins in this setting.

And now coupled with the above... blah I'll just go to bed now

Huh? Yeah, a good alignment is mandatory for paladins. Doesn't mean Astrid can't...play with things a bit. Sorry. I'm exhausted too.

In a way it does, if Astrid decides to give paladin abilities to non good people, then a good alignment suddenly isn´t mandatory any more.

Then again, if she will only sponsor good people, and you can still be Good while actively trying to drive another sapient race (who by all appearances stopped being an active thread generations ago) into extinction. Well then you and I have quite different definitions of what a good alignment entails.

Another option for good measure. Objective morality have been done away with in it's entirety in this setting and all that matters is that you are a good person in the eyes of Astrid.
Now if this is the case it is, in my humble opinion, not very different from "Paladins just need the guy (or girl as case may be) above to vouch for them" stand.
Also I am of the opinion that alignment is best done away with in it's entirety if the same is done with objective morality.

Oh yeah. Kago and nearly the whole damn religion are flying off the deep end. Sooner or later (sooner) there's going to be a massive schism in the church, and Kago and quite possibly the whole religion are going to tear themselves apart.

Not exactly no, but when you say "In this setting it is not enough for a paladin to just have the backing of the guy/girl above, they have to be 'Good'" and "Kago is led by paladins" then it is at least not incompatible with being Good.

Unless of course they are responsible for their actions because they have been deceived by Astrids through bogus alignment detections and the like.
I, personally, would not agree with that. Sure it would be attenuating circumstances but it would not exonerate them entirely

Eh in d&d I'm pretty sure paladins cannot summon celestials like that, so I guess that summoning for dummies is an artifact that allowed him to do so.

They say the deadliest shots are the least painful. Personally i assumed it was the same for spells. ie, bringing him closer to death made it less painful.

Yes. Yes, you should have. And Janine would probably look something like that if she were a guy. Janine has a very desirable body and she knows how to use it and she is certainly not afraid to do so, for good or ill.
