[3.5] Tranferring personal range spells
Hey all - quick question. What methods are there to confer otherwise personal only spells onto others?
UMD a wand or scroll, share spells with a familiar, Ring of Spell Storing etc.
I vaguely recall a FR PrC that allows you to do this?
Not for any specific build, just a general question about how many different methods are available.

If you want to be cheesy about it, here's Douglas' Team Solars

With the main trick being...
The Spellguard ability [...] changes the range of all personal "defensive" spells they cast to touch.Originally Posted by The Giant

Master specialist10 lets you cast personal-range abjuration spells as touch spells (drawback being that you need to specialise in abjuration).

Does anyone know the FR PrC I was referring to? I vaguely remember it being referenced on these forums...or am I remembering wrong?

I believe it's the spellguard mentioned by GoodbyeSoberDay.
He fears his fate too much, and his reward is small, who will not put it to the touch, to win or lose it all.

Re: [3.5] Tranferring personal range spells
The real limitation for Master Specialist is that it's 3/day.
The most generally useful and easiest to get way to do this is, as already mentioned, Spellguard of Silverymoon from Players' Guide to Faerun. If you really want to get cheesy, the Magic of the Land feat from Races of the Wild can alter every last spell you cast to fit the (quite specific and unambiguous) definition of "defensive" that the Spellguard ability requires.
There's a set of bracers (I think) in DMG2 (I think) that allow a caster with part of the set to share personal spells with whoever's got the other part at the cost of halving the duration. They're rather expensive, though, and might have a per day use limit.
Actually, I only use the Spellguard ability for Shapechange. Once that's active on everyone it enables an even better trick.Last edited by Douglas; 2010-11-10 at 04:36 PM.

Thanks for the info on Spellguard of Silverymoon.
I had a quick check of DMG2 - can't find those bracers?

Re: [3.5] Tranferring personal range spells
Not very optimized, but I love the idea of sharing a Lesser/normal Dragonshape through the bracelets and your familiar at the same time. Three dragons for the price of one if it works, and at swift action speed.

Re: [3.5] Tranferring personal range spells
Spelltheft: When the caster succeeds on a dispel check, he takes on the buffs, even personal range buffs.
Of course the guy you are trying to transfer the personal range spell to may not always be able to cast spelltheft to start with. Even with UMD, the caster level check starts to fail at higher levels, which leads to another potential use of my favorite Spellblades:
Procedure:
0) Create a Spellblade primed against spelltheft.
1) Give it to the guy you want to transfer buffs to.
2) Cast all the personal range spells you want to transfer on yourself
3) Cast spelltheft at him, and than have him redirect spelltheft back at you
4) Remember, You can automatically succeed on your checks against any spell that you cast yourself. Ergo, you can automatically have the Spelltheft you cast, steal all your personal range buffs without a check. This also means that you can voluntarily cast the Spelltheft at a lower level (and take 10 with the dispel check with arcane mastery or something), so that it doesn't steal the spells you don't want it to.
5) The personal range buffs transfer to the guy.
6) Hand the Spellblade off to the next guy. Repeat.Last edited by JeminiZero; 2010-11-11 at 02:06 AM.

Re: [3.5] Tranferring personal range spells
Magic jar. Cast it on the buff-ee and then cast all of the spells you want, then deposses him. A nitpicky DM might say that your personal spells transfer with you from host to host, but it's not that likely and you could make a good argument against it.
