what exactly do they mean by pick
im having a hard time picturing what a pick is(the weapon)
are they talking like a mining pick or an ice pick or either, cause both seem like rather silly weapons.
not that it matters but the pick i am referring to is from here

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
The Player's Handbook has an image of weapons with labels on them, and it appears they were thinking of the mining variety.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
dnd and fantasy works in general tend to have a very poor idea of how real weapons look/work so the above description is how the real weapon works and looks but dnd has basically decided a military pick is also a mining tool.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
Wikipedia also said a horseman's pick is curved like a pickaxe, so at least the shape is similar. The link also said that one is interchangeable with warhammer, though that's probably because the other side is a hammer. The D&D ones don't let you multi-tool your weapons like that.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
I didn't think the D&D warhammer was that big, only the WoW one. I thought the D&D warhammer was like the horseman's pick with a more useless pointy end instead of the pick side.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
Or the sling. 3E's stats for a sling were not based on a military sling but on a Dennis the Menace sling.
Also also, double swords. Heck, double anythingGuide to the Magus, the Pathfinder Gish class.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
I just recently found out spiked chains do exist. However, they have only a single spike at the end of the chain and I don't think it makes for a good tripping weapon.
The sling should deal at least 1d6 points of damage and tripple damage on a critical hit. That way it would probably be as useful as actual military slings.
This is a warhammer. This isn't.Last edited by Yora; 2010-12-31 at 07:37 AM.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
Chain Whip is pretty close to how it's portrayed.

It looks awesome... However, I've been thinking that the Meteor Hammer (blunt) and Rope Dart (penetrating) are closer to how Spiked Chain is supposed to be used - you can grab it anywhere along the the flexible rope, and twist it around yourself in weird and cool-looking angles, sometimes throwing it further (achieving reach). They're more flexible than the chain whip, and offer much longer reach.

Based on the number of those iterative attacks, I must conclude that the main guy is epic!

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
Spiked chains do exist, but they're not a very viable weapon, especially not for use in close confines with allies nearby.

Except that's actually closer to a kusari-gama than the actual kusari-gama stats.

Re: what exactly do they mean by pick
He's using Whirlwind attack, notice how he (rarely at least) attacks the same person more than once.
Ramhammers are pretty ridiculous too, I love using them in DnD, but I can't imagine it being remotely possible... especially if I'm correct in my thinking that you can still push them back more than 5 ft with it if your strength check is high enough...Game systems I play: DnD 3.5, Pathfinder, Star Wars Saga, Vampire: The Masquerade, Dungeons: The Dragoning, AFBME, Atomic Highway, Dark Heresy, Legend of the 5 Rings 4E, MAID and... EQRPG... Does anyone actually play that?
